The property is incredibly beautiful; full of lush flowers, fruit trees, exotic birds, and a trail that leads to a large, clear, mountain stream. The temperature is cool and mild and theres a great view of the surrounding vegitation from the second story. Eduardo and his wife are beyond hospitable and welcoming, and made every effort to find ways to make our stay memorable and comfortable. I would highly recommend you purchase their delicious, aromatic coffee. Ots grown on the property otself, and Eduardo grinds it freshly for you at your request. Nothing but love for this place and the hosts! Pura vida!

The Bible describes Goshen as a land or place of plenty and comfort (Genesis 45:10). Gideon, the coffee plantation and guest accommodation of Eduardo and his lovely wife, Betty, offers plenty and delivers comfort. Their jewel of a vacation get-away, located near the university town of Heredia and a short drive from Costa Rica’s capital of San Jose, offers its guests art. Architecture, fauna, flora, fine food and friendship.
If you’re interested in art, Eduardo’s private collection along with his own paintings ( he’s quite an accomplished artist in his own right) will captivate the viewer. If you appreciate architecture, their main accommodation is a Mid-Century Modernism style building that offers a 360 degree panorama of the surrounding plantation and neighboring forest with their abundant plants and wild life. One can view various tropical birds coming and going while multi-colored, spotted lizards dart through their gardens. An occasional sloth might even be seen. The grounds are visual delight with many tropical flowers and fruit plants that Eduardo has cultivated. Not only are they feast for the eyes but for one’s stomach, as well, because Eduardo and Betty serve up many of the tropical fruits that are grown on their plantation. Betty is an excellent cook who prepares and presents full course meals that can only be described as the finest of fine dining. Their warmth and hospitality are unlimited and you will find yourself fast becoming friends with your hosts.

There are no words to describe the beauty of this property. It is cared for with love and it is pure joy to sit in the garden and soak it all in.
We have travelled extensively over the years and have never encountered such incredible hosts. No request went unanswered. We did not have a car so Eduardo was kind enough to help us get around locally. He is also a marvelous tour guide and has extensive knowledge about the history , culture, flora and fauna of Costa Rica. We visited several natural parks with him including experiencing first hand the processing of coffee beans from harvesting to roasting at his plantation
Betty, Eduardo’s wife, delighted us with so many wonderful meals and surprises, like breakfast on our first day and a birthday cake and a surprise departure breakfast in addition to home made goodies throughout our stay. We highly recommend Posada Gosen but being at over a mile high make sure you dress appropriately as it was quite windy and cool specially in the evenings unlike the coastal areas.
Thank you Eduardo and Betty for your wonderful hospitality.

Fantastic stay with Eduardo and Betty, they are excellent hosts who went above and beyond. They make you feel right at home, we will miss them.
The only 'con' would be that the house is so remote, not close to any sites we wanted to see, however, we had no issues getting Uber rides and Eduardo was also willing to offer ride service.

Lovely mountain getaway with generous and caring hosts. Comfy bedroom w gorgeous view, access to gorgeous and working coffee farm - great coffee!! Car needed for easy mobility. Great access to national parks and numerous towns and San Jose.
Second bedroom is separate from main accommodations, which we didn’t need so it was fine.
Would stay again - gracias Edouardo and Betty!

One of the best experience we have ever had. Eduardo and Betty are the best. They will go out of there way to help you. We stayed here a week for my wife's birthday. They made us feel like we were home celebrating. They bought my wife a cake and we celebrated at a hot spring with his family and friends. Betty's cooking is delicious, she taught my wife how to make homemade tortillas. Ask for the coffee, coffee tea, or the guava juice (which is my favorite). We have now family in Costa Rica and we will be back again. Love you Eduardo and Betty can't wait to see you all again.

I can't say enough about this beautiful place and owner!
We arrived late in the day roughly 6pm and was greeted with open arms by Eduardo. Once we got ourselves settled in on our first night we were treated with a nice seafood soup made by Eduardo's wife Betty who is a gem of a lady as well...The next day we were invited for breakfast at their place as we didn't get time to get our groceries. Christmas day we had dinner with his family and friends which was AMAZING!
Our bedroom was the perfect touch with your own private bathroom right in your bedroom, shower as well which made is so nice. Downstairs was the kitchen and dinning room which was decorated for us for Christmas as we were here from Dec-18-26.
The property is very very well kept as is the house it's self, where this is located 1100 meters above sea level night time sleeping with the windows open makes it nice and cool and NO alarm needed as you'll have a rooster to wake you hahaha...
Eduardo gave us great places to shop for your fruits and veggies in Barva.
Most places in CR have gates to their property and driveway and so does this place as you'll get your own remote to open and close when ever you want to come and go, I never had any concerns about our car being unlocked over night, you'll know why when you see it.
Downstairs has another bathroom complete with a shower as well, there is a laundry facility there but we never used it.
You wont regret this place along with his coffee as he has a coffee farm

Great accommodations if you want to be close to San Jose but not in the city. Wonderful hosts who were extremely helpful even though they were out of town during our visit. You are in the middle of beautiful gardens and small coffee farm. Feel safe and secure with locked gate to property. We stayed just a couple of nights before heading elsewhere, and it was a great stopover for us. Reasonably priced and a friend of the owners even made dinner for us the first night because we arrived so late. Lovely people!

The property itself is beautiful, peaceful, and well maintained. We were very comfortable and the view from the main building is splendid. The hosts are amazing, warm and welcoming. We leraned about their small-scale coffee production and even got to help out, which was a lot of fun. It almost felt like a homestay experience the way they took the time to interact with us. My husband and two adult children also loved the experience and said it was one of the highlights from the entire trip.

Betty and Eduardo have created a stunning rural ambiance very near an urban area. It's difficult to put into words, but guests will understand quickly that even though there are few noises outside of an occasional vaca mooing, or a dog barking in the distance, urban life is only minutes away.
They are cordial, inviting, and as far as I know, tolerant. We had some folks over on the last night we were there. I was worried that it was too noisy, but Eduardo and Betty didn't complain. They are very professional.
I will be back!

The setting is surreal, as you walk the property you see the incredible biodiversity that Costa Rica is known for. Eduardo and Betty are so warm and welcoming from the moment you pull into the gate. This mountainside property offers a view of the volcano, every plant and flower imaginable and a tour of his coffee farm. We then took a walk down to the stream that runs through the property, words cannot express the beauty down there. We sat and had coffee, tea and fresh fruit with them for breakfast and met their pets over fascinating conversation and laughter. We bought their coffee and coffee/tea and were lucky enough to bag our own. Wishing we had more than one night there as Eduardo takes his guests on local tours, he is so knowledgable. MUST STAY in this tropical paradise!!

The reviews are true… beautiful property and AMAZING hosts. Eduardo and Betty make you feel like instant family. They are incredibly sweet and hospitable. There are no words to describe Betty’s cooking; we didn’t want to leave the kitchen. The arepas, Spanish tortilla, and paella were definitely favorites. The fresh, grown on location, coffee was the best (5 bags came home with us!). We appreciated Eduardo’s local knowledge as we hiked and looked for sloths and other wildlife. Grounds were beautiful and accommodations were comfortable. Definitely recommend!

This place is amazing, and is in the middle of real coffee plantation. Very nice host and best place we stayed in Costa Rica. Will go there every time we are in San Jose or surrounding areas.

Our eight day stay with Eduardo and Betty was definitely the best part of our three weeks in Costa Rica. Easy and affordable pick up and delivery to the San Jose airport is offered. While close to San Jose (thirty minutes), you're in the mountain jungle at over 5000 feet. The house itself is imaginative and fun with gorgeous views from the many windows. There are lots of toys, games, playing areas and outdoor living areas, ideal for kids. The kitchen is well equipped and bathrooms are nicely tiled. The garden is a work of art and Eduardo is a master gardener who enjoys talking about tropical plants, coffee cultivation and Costa Rican culture in fluent English. Both Betty and Eduardo are warm, spirited, outgoing, humorous and interested in making your visit full of nature, food and culture. From them we received many insights into Costa Rican family life, art, politics, business and education. As many have noted Betty's cooking is interesting and delicious and Betty herself a delight. I had just had an injury when I arrived and Eduardo went to considerable effort to get me the equipment and medical attention I needed. Eduardo's tours in his roomy, luxurious car are totally worth it. He knows so much about this area where his interesting family has lived for generations. The two of them and their home turned what could have been an unfortunate experience for us into a completely fulfilling one. I remain amazed and grateful.

Eduardo and Betty are the best! I was treated like family there. I took a tour with Eduardo and he is the ultimate guide, we even had lunch at his favorite soda. He took me to the airport at 4.30 am to pick up my wife because I didn’t want to drive in the dark. Not only did I make a new acquaintance, I made new friends.

Eduardo and Betty are wonderful, gracious hosts who exceeded expectations. They responded quickly and helpfully to every need we had, and gave us some fun (delicious) surprises. They are people with whom we hope to continue to cross paths. We might not have paid close enough attention to the listing details, but were surprised that the two bedrooms were in different structures, and the smaller one isn't as big as most couples would want. However, the price is without question a good bargain for the accommodations. We rate the place as top notch.

Nice place with great views, beautiful flowers. Eduardo and his lovely wife were very gracious and helped us in so many ways. She is a wonderful cook, and he went out of his way to accommodate us. We made new friends and will be back.

We arrived in the middle of the night due to flight issues. We were graciously welcomed. The property is beautiful with comfortable and fun guest areas. The hosts were beyond welcoming, helped us practice our Spanish, taught us how coffee beans go from tree to roasting AND let us help! Sweet dogs and cuddly rabbits rounded out our visit. Get the food if you can, they go all out preparing meals too. Highly recommend this location. We would stay here again!

You could not ask for a better host. Eduardo and his wife Betty are the most hospitable people! We got to help harvest some coffee beans from his plantation. This amazing property is perfect for getting away from the craziness of life. I could have stayed for months if I didn’t have to work. The river on the property and the wind through the tall pine trees is something I loved to listen to everyday we were there. The foliage on property is stunning. You can sit for hours and watch the hummingbirds fly from plant to plant. Sometimes you can hear green Parrots in the treetops!! I would definitely stay here again. This is a gem of a property!!! Thank you for such a wonderful stay!!

Fabulous place to stay
This place is so centrally located but more importantly it’s safe. Eduardo and Betty are the kindest hosts and make your stay so enjoyable. They are very accommodating. Make sure you have Betty cook at least one of your meals. You will not be disappointed.

wonderful hosts!
Eduardo and Betty were wonderful hosts - they treated us as invited guests, not paying customers. They graciously provided everything we needed including transportation to shopping and back to the airport area. The grounds are beautiful and Eduardo proudly showed us his gardens and flower/coffee farm. The coffee was fantastic and it was so much fun hearing about the growing and processing. Eduardo was very generous in sharing his coffee with us! And Betty is a fantastic cook!

Quaint but
Quaint place, gracious host, most excellent coffee. Only issue is that I found it strange to have a toilet fairly close to the bed, separated only by a curtain. There is however a full bathroom downstairs.

A quiet place to stay surrounded by natural beauty
Gosen is a great place in Barva Heredia to relax, with mountain weather, natural beauty, a wonderful garden, and peace. It is wonderful to wake up to the sound of the birds in the area, and a 360 degree view in the master bedroom. We enjoyed our stay there, especially my daughter who had her own private suite. The wonderful and friendly hosts Betty and Eduardo make you feel at home. Be sure to try Betty's delicious food.

The best place ever!
This place is heaven on earth and the owners are genuinely nice and caring people. The sleeping quarters are upstairs and it has both a small shower and a small bathroom. The downstairs has an additional bathroom and also the common area with a kitchen and a dining room table. The two are connected with an outdoor staircase. The kitchen has everything you need if you are staying for more than one night: pots and pans, dishes, microwave, fridge, and cooking oil. If you are only staying 1 night, I would recommend having Beti, the owner’s wife, cook something for you. It is inexpensive and crazy delicious! The nights are quiet and we slept with the windows and doors open to let in the breeze. No problem with insects. Hot water was great.
Things to know as a traveler: The kitchen has everything you need to cook with except butter. There is a grocery store about 15 minutes away and Eduardo will take you if you don’t have a car. I might have missed it but I didn’t see a coffee pot. I didn’t ask the owner about it because his wife made us the best coffee I’d ever had.
The bathrooms have soap but no shampoo or conditioner. Not a big deal; just bring your own! No hair dryer but my hair dried super fast even without it.
The water is safe to drink and delicious.
The wifi is excellent! Eduardo speaks pretty good English but if you do run into difficulties, just pull up Google Translate.
Eduardo does charge a small amount to drive his guests places. He accepts colones, dollars, and also uses Zelle. Also available to purchase is fresh roasted coffee from his farm and paintings that his wife made. I bought 2!
This is an amazing place and we are already talking about going back next year. Eduardo and Beti embody the Costa Rican spirit of Pura Vida! I wish more people were like them. Heck, I wish I was more like them! Enjoy your visit and tell them Sara and Rick said hello!

Lovely Welcome
Ed and Betty are two of the kindest people you will meet. They were thoughtful and helpful - driving us to the grocery store, making us breakfast. The house is lovely. The gardens are great. Ed tried to rustle up our own personal sloth for the tree...but his powers did not extend that far!
I recommend this place strongly

Wonderful stay!
Eduardo's property is a large beautiful land several thousand feet abouve San Jose. Very special with its own small coffee finca. The room i stayed in was comfortable with an excellent kind sized bed, and floor to ceiling windows on all four sides. Eduardo himself is a superb host --- cooking me breakfast on his dime, offering his shade-grown coffee in addition to his professionalism and respectful of one's privacy. Good value, worth the drive from the airport, and highly recommended!

Glorious garden retreat
You’ll love browsing the diverse, gorgeous plants around the grounds. Eucalyptus, birds of paradise, succulents, coffee plants, fruit trees - it’s beautiful. You won’t hear much city noise; just the neighbor’s rooster and local wildlife.
Eduardo & Betty are so kind to share their lovely home with guests. We loved meeting them and the kids enjoyed learning about coffee beans and fruit plants!
The bedrooms are in 2 separate buildings - something to note if you have little ones with you.
You can order dinner and breakfast through these marvelous hosts. Highly suggest you do so. It’s delicious!!

Great Hosts
Beautiful grounds. Betty and Eduardo are the best hosts you can imagine. Betty is a terrific cook and we got to sample many dishes. Get her to make Tres Leches! Together they are great tour guides. They even invited us for Christmas dinner with their family. This was the start of a 10 week stay in Costa Rica and they made the time exciting and wonderful. I can absolutely recommend them and we enjoyed our month with them.

Home away from home
The owners, Eduardo and Beti, could mot be more accommodating and proud of their property. Great views, flora is magnificent, but nothing beats the people there. They made us feel like they were long time friends. Make sure to order breakfast and dinner. It's well worth it. Only negative is the main bathroom and shower is downstairs, although there is a small shower and bathroom in your room,. Just not as comfortable. We will be back.

small paradise
Staying with Eduardo and Betty is like coming home, except coming to a home that is a small paradise. They couldn't be more welcoming, helpful, and kind and they make staying there feel like being part of the family. The grounds are GORGEOUS as Eduardo is a master horticulturist and do yourself a favor and get a tour of his gardens, coffee trees, and flower beds. Also make sure to have at least one amazing dinner in the incredible edifice that houses one of the spectacular rooms on the property. Don't bother looking for another place to stay, no where will match up to their paradise.

A home and host we will never forget!
Not only was this stay absolutely BEAUTIFUL, but it’s hosts were the best I’ve ever had. They were willing to cook us breakfast when we were short on time to get to the airport, showed us around their beautiful property and let us try some of their freshly grown produce, and topped it all of with a few shots for the ride out. Best VRBO experience EVER!!
