Summary of reviews
Lovely view, great dock, spacious dining area, plenty of dishes, good Wi-Fi for work, multiple bedrooms for guests, affordable, peaceful location.
5.0
Pros:
- LOVELY VIEW from the living area, the deck, and the sunroom
- great dock for sitting with your feet in the lake
- big dining room table easily seats 8 for eating and playing games
- plenty of dishes and pots/pans for making meals or bringing in take-out
- gas grill was ready for use and right on the deck for quick access to the kitchen
- good proximity to Ludington but a very isolated feel as you really can't tell you have neighbors
- multiple bedrooms for many guests (my 4 teen/adult kids + 2 of their significant others joined me)
- affordable for the area considering the size and lakefront location
- Wi-Fi that was good enough for me to do some work and kids to do some homework but NOT good enough to stream videos for a movie night, and that is a positive because we played more board, dice, and card games instead!
Cons:
- no AC so house was musty and HOT at check-in, but this should not be a deal breaker as once the house is opened up COMPLETELY and fans are placed strategically, it was actually quite pleasant until...
- torn/missing/gaps in screens allowed in bugs, especially at night
- the bunk bed room is about the size of walk-in closet and the 5th bedroom is actually a basement den with a sleeper sofa (we didn't end up using this room, so I can't comment on the quality of the bed; just noting that I thought it was 5 bedrooms and didn't read the fine print about it being a sleeper sofa)
- kitchen appliances are old (exposed wiring in one stove plate, oven requires pliers to use, microwave seems not to seal, dishwasher isn't screwed into counter and no longer has/never had springs to hold the door cracked if you just use it as a place to dry dishes as we did)
- the driveway is narrow and steep and if you aren't careful you will hit the roof of the shed on your way in; there is adequate parking but it's like a logic puzzle to figure out how to park multiple cars and be able to get back out as reversing out is NOT an option; you can park a car or two at the top of the hill though
- deck ladder was really not useable because of all the buildup on it; would be better if it were further down the dock away from the wall where slime builds up naturally
The list of cons seems long, and it is clearly an older home without many updates. However, it is a neat house with lots of amazing built-ins and it was fun to explore. We would DEFINITELY stay here again even though the house could use some maintenance and TLC.

Very nice place on the lake. You are very secluded here. Neighbors are close but you cannot see them. 10 minutes to downtown Ludington. I would recommend this place to stay

We enjoyed staying at this cottage and the view of the lake and seeing the sun rise was incredible. We saw deer every day in the woods too. We had a party of 10 (adults and children) and still felt like we had our own space. This cottage could use some updates though, including the carpet and the older oven which needed vice grips to turn on. We did enjoy the convenience of the grill and the dishwasher. Overall, we would stay here again and loved the lake access and beautiful views.

Inside was clean. We loved the upper deck for viewing sunrises and just the overall great view of Hamlin Lake. If you use the washer it drains outside and fills up on the concrete pad and remains full. It was hard to keep the children away from it. The driveway is really steep and we could only back down it in order to get back out. Over all it’s a great place and close to downtown and the beach and many other things near by. We would stay again.

Great views and close to everything Ludington has to offer
The kids loved playing in the water and the campfires. The driveway can be tricky to navigate.

Very nice getaway spot
This was a very nice place to stay with a large group of all ages. The kitchen was well stocked to accommodate large groups (pots and pans etc.) it's close to Ludington to go to town. I highly recommend this place.

Beautiful Lake View
We loved the location of this property that is off the back roads on Hamlin lake next to the state park. There are neighbors on either side but you wouldn’t know it because the land slopes to the lake here and the houses are all on different levels. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and solitude. There was a missing ceiling panel in the bedroom with the bunk beds so our kiddos were a little afraid to sleep in there (they are 5 and 8 years old). But this problem was easily solved since there are 4 bedrooms in the house. Overall, we had a lovely stay and would like to come back again to this beautiful area.

Charming
Arrived at night so getting there was pretty scary! Not to mention HOTT i must have not read correctly but it DOES NOT HAVE AC! I feel as that should be in bold! Especially since we paid over 1300.00 for only 4 nights! It ended up working out after we opened all the windows however needed all fans on all time! Make sure if you plan to rent to bring extra fans they only had about 4 and house is pretty big.

Beautiful location, Needs some attention
Cottage is in a beautiful spot, but is showing its age. Appliances aren’t working well, and swimming float isn’t functional.

A fantastic time!
I always get nervous about staying at a place I haven't been before but Linda's place was the perfect setup for our family!

Low key
Had a quiet low key week. Would have liked a broom or vacuum to keep floors cleaner.

Excellent Lake Getaway
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Hamlin House. Excellent views of the lake and easy pier access from the property to enjoy the lake by boat. I would stay at this property again.

Large family with children lake week
We had a great week on the lake with our family. We have 5 adults and 5 children (ages 8-16) and this house was perfect for us. Be ready to battle the bugs but other than that it was a great relaxing trip!

Perfect getaway
This is an ideal location to be, right next to Ludington state park while being on beautiful Lake Hamlin too. The house was perfect for the 7 of us that stayed, very clean and plenty of room for everyone. Beautiful view of the lake, docks available for boats. Our host was very welcoming and quick to answer any of our questions. Definitely recommend if you're staying in the area

Enjoyed our stay
House was very clean, we appointed. Location terrific. As others have noted unit is very dated with no AC. We were fine as it was cool in the evenings. We brought fans. Driveway is very tight. A note to boat owners. Do not bring boat or trailer to the house. You can not turn it around. We dropped the boat at the launch then parked the trailer at the top of the hill above the home. The home was perfect for our group and we would stay again.

We had a wonderful, family filled week on Lake Hamlin!
My family had a great time @ Hamlin House! We were right on the water and had plenty of outdoor space. It was great being so close to Luddington and the state park. The beds were very comfortable. The smallest bedroom is very small. The house is very casual and dated but we were fine with that as it is clean and comfortable.

As advertised
This worked great for the eight of us that stayed for a week. The property is a bit dated inside (carpets and such), but is in a great location and provided a spot for a lot of fun.

Wonderful Location, clean and comfortable
It is so nice to be right on Hamlin Lake, and have Ludington State Park on Lake Michigan just a short drive away. Hamlin lake is great for paddle boarding, swimming and canoeing along the nearby canoe trail through islands in the Lake. The kitchen is well stocked with a great variety of pots, pans, cutting boards, bowls, etc. The beds are comfortable and the house was very clean. There are lots of places to sleep. Our family of eight has rented a cottage close to Lake Michigan for eight years in a row and this is the best cottage we have found so far.

Wonderful place, hope to stay again!
This was a great home in a perfect location. There were a couple of reasons that it didn't get a 5-star rating: While it was overall, very clean, there were some areas that were missed by the cleaning people; the house was pretty muggy, until we opened all of the windows, but the downstairs remained muggy, not sure if there was a way to remedy this, but if there was, it would have been nice if there were instructions on how to make the house cooler and less muggy; we do not think that 12 people could comfortably stay there. We had six - five adults and one child - and the house felt pretty full; we could have added one or two more guests, but that would have been the most we would have wanted. Overall, though, we loved the location, loved being on Lake Hamlin, and loved the house.

Amazing place for a Summer Getaway.
My brothers & cousins stayed here for a fishing trip. The property was great. We had a amazing time fishing, grilling & sitting by the fire. The Cabin was exactly as expected & perfect for a summer getaway. The dock is great and fit all 3 boats we brought with us. The Parking/Drive Way is very narrow though & we stored the boat trailers elsewhere.
Overall this place was great & I would definitely stay here again.

Nice Place for the price.
Was just about what we had expected. No complaints really. I think someone mentioned the parking situation in another review. Parking is indeed tight but as long as you don't have a ton of vehicles its not to bad. We brought two boats so we had to find a place for the tailors.

Was a place to sleep
It's on a beautiful part of the lake, and it's a good spot for fishing, and it's only a few miles from the beach, and town. How ever the house is so outdated inside, and the beds were very uncomfortable, and the lack of smoke alarms left me anxious while sleeping. And they say 5 bedrooms but there is only like 3 and a closet with a bunk bed and a den in the basement, also I wouldn't rent this house in the winter time, the drive way is steep and twisty, and there isn't alot of room to park, the water was clear and good for swimming, but the ladder on the deck they want us to use was very unstable. Other than that it was an okay place to stay.

Nice house and great location
The property was in a great location in Ludington on a nice lake. The house itself is a little old, but was able to accommodate everyone that came. The balcony, lower level with the fire pit, and small patch of grass down below made for great places to hang out.
I would recommend staying here if you want a home type of feeling.

Gorgeous Hamlin Lake Views
Our family of 7 had a wonderful week at the cottage. We spent many hours enjoying the view, relaxing, and playing board games at the house, as well as venturing out to go to the beach, raft on the White River, and take a Dune ride. Downtown Ludington is a short drive away. Great place to spend time with family.
