Kirk is a fourth-generation Washingtonian whose family has lived on Capitol Hill since the late 1800s, and where he continues to live today with his wife and two children. Kirk's Great-Grandmother, Margaret, purchased this 1890 Victorian home In 1905 to entice one of her two daughters to raise her own family in the neighborhood. Kirk's Great Aunt, Nell, and her husband, John, raised their 12 children in this home.
In 2008 at the behest of Kirk's 82-year-old cousin, Kirk's family purchased the house from relatives who had owned or lived in the house since 1905, and then they spent over two years meticulously restoring and renovating the home, blending old-world Victorian charm and ambiance with new world appliances and technology.
Today, Kirk's family, now the fifth generation of Washingtonians, are honored to offer you the opportunity of experiencing residential living in the newly updated guesthouse, right in the heart of our Nation's Capitol, at the Historic Eastern Market on Capitol Hill!

This lovely apartment in the Eastern Market neighborhood of Capitol Hill was the perfect place for a weekend getaway. The apartment was cool, clean and quiet during a hot weekend in DC. The neighborhood was amazing, with everything we needed (restaurants, shopping, the Metro, weekend outdoor market) only steps from the door. We hope to come back someday! Thank you for a great weekend!

We really liked our location - close to the metro, grocery shopping and restaurants. We were able to do a lot of sight seeing. It was cool, comfortable and clean.
Thanks for the great stay!

This property could not be better located. Parking was easy and once I parked I never drove again until we left. Bus and Metro are literally steps away from the front door. The property was 2 bedrooms and 1 bath with a pull out sofa. It was perfect for me, my wife, and 3 kids.
We had a very slight issue on arrival and Kirk had it fixed ASAP. Nice host and wonderful stay.

We loved our 6 day stay here! The location is perfect-just a half block from the metro and Trader Joes. It's in a very charming neighborhood we loved walking around. The owner was incredibly accommodating and very easy to work with. Highly recommend!

This is a great place to stay in Washington. The location is very close to a metro station providing quick access to all the major attractions. There are also several restaurants within 1-2 blocks of the property and a Trader Joe's grocery store. The property was clean, comfortable and a welcome place to return to after long days of walking and sightseeing.

This location was amazing, so close to some awesome bars and restaurants and super close to the metro to easy access to anywhere. The neighborhood was so cute and the house was super clean.

Two of us stayed in this charming basement apartment. The beds were extremely comfortable. The kitchen had all appliances and was nicely remodeled. The added touches of mirrors in both bedrooms made sharing the one bathroom a breeze. Loved all of the extra towels!!
Steps away from Eastern Market metro, Trader Joe’s, CVS, and Starbucks. Great small restaurants in Barracks row. Don’t miss Eastern Market on the weekends.
Kirk was so responsive and easy to get in touch with.

Eastern Market Suites is in the perfect location! Close to everything in a nice neighborhood. The flat has all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay and was perfect for our family of 4! Kirk was a great host! Made sure we had all the information needed before checking in, included a parking pass so we could park on the street. We left the car and traveled by metro and Uber! Convenient to everywhere and so much better than a hotel! Thank you helping to make our trip to DC memorable!

This property was wonderful for my husband and our two young children. Kirk was extremely helpful. The location was wonderful very close to a Trader Joe’s, which made it easy to cook in the house every night with our little kids. It is well situated and has easy access to the metro. We rented bikes and biked to the mall every day. It was about a 15 minute bike ride and there were nice bike lines almost the entire way. It was a very successful trip and we would recommend this property to other families with little children.

The suite was a block away from the metro to easily get to and from all of the sites. Lots of good restaurants and stores within walking distance. The neighborhood is great - very cute, clean and safe. The suite is as perfect for us and the property manager was very responsive with great customer service. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed being close to many sights. Metro was also very close and easy to use. A fun family trip for us as first timers to the DC area!

The location of this rental could not be better. Literally within a block of amazing restaurants and a quick Uber or train to downtown. The rental was great too; comfortable beds, cozy living room, and large island in the kitchen! Kirk was readily available and was super helpful, even on Christmas day! Would definitely stay here again!
Our only feedback is to update the listing to show the futon is not in one of the bedrooms but in the living room.

House is just a few minutes walk away from multiple dining locations, cafes and bars. It’s also close by to a children’s park while still remaining very quiet. Our only issue was with the smoke detectors that would go off whenever we cooked anything. Kitchen vent hood made things worse by directing heat toward the ceiling and not venting outside. I’d stay here again but would cover or temporarily remove the detectors in the living space and hallway.

Perfect for our 4 day stay in DC. Nice neighborhood, easy access to Metro, 8th St restaurants, coffee, and Eastern Market on Sunday.

We loved this apartment. It is quiet and a very short walk to the metro, multiple grocery stores, and many other shops and restaurants. The new playground by the metro station was a lifesaver for us as we were traveling with two young boys who need to get energy out. Kirk kindly provided a parking pass that let us park right outside.

We chose this property due to ease of access to the mall and were surprised to find how much the neighborhood had to offer. There are great local shops as well as a Trader Joes should you chose to dine in. Will definitely be looking to stay here again in the future.

The unit is perfectly located very near the Metro station. Getting around town was a breeze. Eastern Market is great (loved the bakery). Tons of restaurants on 8th. The Marine barracks is just a few blocks away. We even found the Commandant's house and had a nice chat with the Marine guard. Kirk was very helpful and responsive. The neighborhood is cool. Kirk s place was the perfect place for our return trip to DC

My family of 4 stayed for 3 nights to tour DC. The location of the property is excellent; close to Metro, walkable to many neighborhoods, good food nearby, safe. The property, however, did have a couple issues. Upon arrival, the a/c was not functioning and it got up to 80 degrees inside. Kirk needed to enter the unit to reset the system, which fixed the issue for the remainder of the stay (though the individual a/c units are a little loud). We also encountered a cockroach and an large worm inside. Kirk was responsive and offered to apply a "treatment", which we declined given we did not want him to enter the unit another time and didn't know what the treatment would entail. Maybe the bugs are common in DC for ground-level units, but we just didn't feel completely comfortable, especially our kids, after having to deal with them. Overall our stay was fine for the short time we were there, but we will look for other options on our next visit.

Great location and accomodations. Anything needed to improve your stay, just tell the host.

The description and pictures of the unit are accurate enough. Checkin was easy and the unit was clean. However, the uneven nature of the floor in one of the bedrooms was very off putting and we decided to move out after one night and move to a hotel for the rest of the week. Overall, I think the unit is fine but when you are used to a modern feel, this unit was not a fit for us.

This location is ideal for those visiting the city- so many options for dining right around the corner and the metro is literally down the street. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen is very clean and updated. Kirk was extremely helpful and communicative and we would definitely stay here again!

This property is very comfortable and located right near the Metro and walking distance to tons of restaurants and DC attractions, while also being close to the highway so we could get into Virginia quickly. The building is charming and the apartment delightfully quirky with the imperfections that come from a 100+ year old rowhouse, but with modern amenities in the kitchen and bathroom that made the stay very comfortable. Host is very nice and helpful. Recommend highly

Solid offering
This basement apartment has an excellent kitchen and I love that the owners kept the raw brick wall - makes it feel warm and cozy. Location is outstanding, just steps away from Pennsylvania Avenue and the nearby Trader Joe's. Everything was as represented in the listing. Like many of these basement/garden apartments, there was noise from the first floor, which went quite late one evening.
I would return.

Fantastic "home base" for exploring DC
My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children - ages 5 and 8) stayed at Eastern Market Suites for our D.C. sightseeing trip. The location was top notch! The Metro is literally steps away and it was only 4 stops to the Smithsonian / National Mall station - such a quick ride. There are so many restaurants within walking distance, plus Trader Joes to stock up on a few groceries.
The rental was perfect for our family. 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and a BEAUTIFUL kitchen. The shower pressure was amazing - there's actually dual shower heads. Lots of towels provided as well. (Do check the size of the beds and ensure they are match for your needs. They worked for us, but our kids are little. However, there is a pull-out couch, too.)
Communication with Kirk, the owner, was fantastic. He truly could not have been nicer. He is a long-time D.C. resident and very knowledgeable / provided recommendations in a welcome email. We pre-arranged to drop our bags 30 minutes early while the property was getting ready for us. Kirk helped us bring our bags in. He also reserved a street parking permit for us as well. Overall, great property and location.
I cannot wait to return!

Great location!
The suite/apartment matched the pictures and descriptions. It was very convenient to get to the Metro and DC Circulator bus for ease of getting to the sights. The neighborhood was great for food, coffee, groceries, restaurants, etc. Very worth the price - no complaints!

Great location
Good option in a desirable location around the corner from Barracks Row. Good space and we made it work for family of 4. Very kind to get information in advance to provide street parking permit upon arrival. Very seamless.
A few quirks in one bedroom with uneven floors to be mindful of.

Perfect spot for metro access and local restaurants. On street parking with permit was great too. Owner was wonderful getting back to us with any questions. Would highly recommend.

Dream trip!
My husband and I took our 9 year old son to DC recently and stayed at Kirk's place in Eastern Market. We loved it! The location really cannot be beat - we loved being half a block from the metro station (and from Starbucks, Trader Joes, and awesome local restaurants!) It was easy for us to get everywhere we needed to go easily. Kirk was extremely helpful in many ways - including accommodating an early check-in as well as letting us store our luggage on our last day so we could do a few more sightseeing things before our flight. The apartment was very clean and well equipped, and I slept like a baby. We would 100% stay here again, and there is plenty of room for us to bring our other two kiddos next time! Thanks, Kirk!
