Unique and Stunning property. The outdoor space is magnificent and photos don't do it justice. The pool was pristine when we arrived, and the first morning after we were there the pool and gardens were cleaned and manicured again. Two in our party spent a couple of nights at one of the resorts in Waikoloa, and when they showed up at this house they were amazed. They said it had everything the resort offered... but without the crowds. This was the most responsive management I've experienced. Wonderful.
I would absolutely stay here again, and the pros far outweigh any cons. There are some things to note which might make it a better fit for some groups than others:
- It is in a rather rural area - to reach it, you drive through an industrial port town and then up a long narrow drive which had us wondering at first since we came in near dark. But this is an upscale area, and the next morning we realized that. And, the local eateries and shops in that industrial area were wonderful!
- There is some ... "nature"... inside the house. it was absolutely immaculate and clean, but there were some tropical flying ants that were a bit surprising (totally harmless, but plentiful - might be a seasonal thing?) ... and, there are some house geckos (there is a sign inside explaining them). They were adorable and chirp like birds. Just know your group and if anyone is squeamish. (and, the other couple said the resort had them also).
I'm ready to go back!! Loved it.

We loved the lanai with pool and hot tub! We spent most of our time outside enjoying the weather and watching all the whales! You are not close to a lot of things so if you don’t like driving a lot this could be an issue but for us the view made up for that. We’d definitely stay here again!

We are 2 families with young adult/teen kids in the mix. This property is quiet and really pretty. The sunset views are out of this world. It is a bit far (45 min-1 hr) from Kona, which is where many of the activities on this side of the island originate. About 20 min from Waimea. The managers were super nice and responsive to any issues. Would love to go back.

Our party of six loved this property. Great layout, beautiful views and it had everything we needed. As others have mentioned, it is a little away from the hustle and bustle of town, but that’s how we like it. No need to shop at Costco or Walmart, the KTA in Waimea (about a 15 minute drive) had everything we needed and was not so crowded. The family went out on a charter fishing trip right from Kawaihae Harbor and our 16 yo grandson caught a 30lb Wahoo, which was delicious for dinner that night. Another of our favorites, Spencer beach park is a short drive away. We had a couple of minor issues which were quickly sorted by management. Good, fast communication from the start.

My husband and I booked this home just us for an incredible vacation. I had been to the big island resorts several times before so this time, I truly wanted a more secluded experience yet not compromise a pool and location. This home is located in a nice residential area with plenty of space as we didn’t see one neighbor during our stay. We were close enough to public beaches, good poke at the local market and we could explore all over the mountain. The bed was very comfortable, they included household products, beach towels, pool floats and all kitchen items needed to cook and grill. We were very impressed with the large refrigerator and freezer, the large TV and WiFi. We felt very safe during our stay. You will not see a better sunset or stars at night than right in this back yard. Do not hesitate and book this home. I feel like this trip was a once in a lifetime experience and I can’t wait to bring our family back one day! Mahalo

The property was fantastic. The views are amazing. We had our 50th wedding anniversary party on the lanai were we had a private luau thanks to the property owner and the property managers Jay and Arlene who were always responsive and extremely helpful. I could not recommend Hale Laule any more highly. 5 stars is not enough.

We recently stayed at Hale Laule’a with a group of 8 including our young adult children and our parents. The house layout worked very well for our extended family, with comfortable beds in all 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms to share. The house is tastefully decorated and very clean; we especially appreciated how well-equipped and organized everything was. Every cupboard and drawer in the kitchen is labelled, making it easy to find things, and it was well-stocked with cookware, dishes and utensils as well as basic spices and kitchen staples. It was great to have beach towels, chairs and many other useful amenities during our stay.
The lanai was beautiful, with amazing sunrise and sunset views. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, BBQ area, and firepit during our stay. It would be a great addition to the lanai to have a few big umbrellas or a gazebo to provide some shade as there is no relief from the sun for most of the day.
This property is a bit of a distance from the main resort areas—Mauna Kea and Hapuna Beach are about a 20 minute drive away. Similarly, the nearest grocery stores are at least 15 minutes away so it was a bit inconvenient in that regard. However, Hale Laule’a is situated in a very peaceful and quiet area so it was a very relaxing place to unwind after a busy day at the beach or in town.
We had a wonderful week at Hale Lule’a and wouldn’t hesitate to stay at this beautiful home again.

This was our second stay on Big Island so we weren’t newbies but still learning our way around. That being said, this property is pretty far from grocery stores & shopping. Costco & Safeway are not just around the corner! So plan accordingly. Foodland up in Waimea is technically closest but still a good 20 min drive there, shop, 20 mins back. But we love Waimea so no biggie.
The views did not disappoint. They really are what you see in the listing pics. The pool deck has no shade. So for the sun lovers it’s great! But for the burn easy types, not so much. We all agreed that a nice pergola over the BBQ area would help with this.
It was baseball playoff and World Series time. A few in our group really enjoyed the the big screen TV.
The communal areas worked well for us & we liked the overall layout. We had plenty of room for our 3 couple group. Kitchen was well stocked. Liked that the drawers & cupboards were labeled so we weren’t playing hide-n-seek.
The master bed & bath were great. The other rooms felt a little more cramped but everyone said, “We are just sleeping in there.” and just dealt with it. AC didn’t make the master cold, but did fine in the smaller rooms.
Whether it’s the location or time of year, we had no issue with bugs or mosquitoes…as opposed to the other house we had before down in Kailua. We could leave the doors open (while home) from sunrise to bedtime. Nice cross breezes & ceiling fans kept the house comfortable.
Never a need to put on bug spray or have a bug zapper which really made the star gazing enjoyable.
The hot tub has one setting: ON or OFF. No temp or jet control. It was great but it could cook you after awhile and sometimes it would be nice to sit in it with the heat and no bubbles but it cools off very fast.
The pool was very nice. Refreshing & clean. The little stools on the infinity edge are wonderful to sit on and sip a beverage while taking in that view.
Sunsets are phenomenal. Mornings are quiet and peaceful.
Tommy Bahama chairs & umbrellas to take to the beach are a nice touch and made those excursions more enjoyable.
BBQ and outdoor fridge were great. Washer & dryer too.
Overall our group gave this a solid 4 out of 5. We’ve been doing the house / condo VRBO thing for a few years now. We’d stay here again. No problems or disappointments and split between three couples it’s definitely affordable.

This home is a great jumping off point for many day trips! It has gorgeous views from the top of Mauna Kea & evening sunsets, even watching the barges and boats crossing every morning & afternoon. It’s forever entertaining! My daughters 6 & 7 loved the pool as did our extended family and all it’s features. We all had an amazing time! Thank you!

Our family of 8 (6 adults and two grandchildren ages 9 and 11) stayed at the Hale Laule’a house in early July 2021. We were wowed by the house and very happy with our stay. We made good use of the 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The home was well stocked with everything needed ranging from kitchen to beach items. The home is a classy tropical modern design. The central area had bright and airy dining ‘alcove’ that projected toward a large lanai/patio. The patio had an extraordinary infinity pool and hot tub with and lighted water jet fountains. The barbeque area and a gas fire pit were great.
The Kohala weather was wonderful which played to the amazing expansive view of the ocean and the Kohala coast extending south nearly to old airport.
The location in Kawaihae is ideal for those looking for a non-resort experience. Waimea and Hawi are 25 min away as are the resort restaurants and the superb Kohala beaches. We have no problem giving the home a 5 star rating.
