We had a good-sized room with comfortable beds at the end of a corridor on the 6th floor which meant that we were not disturbed even though it was the busy Christmas period. The location was convenient for the town. We would definitely stay there again if visiting our relatives in Montclair.
The breakfast had a limited menu but adequate. Service was variable over the time we were there and sometimes seemed like an afterthought that they had just remembered to provide.

Very nice ambience and staff

Disappointing. While pictures and at first glance this hotel looks nice and appealing, on closer look, it is not being kept well.
1st room we walked in and it appeared clean. Then we just started noticing it really wasn’t. The bathroom: mildew tiles on the shower wall and floor. Yuck! The room floor tiles also dirty (I thought the the grout was intentionally dark…it was dirt) Hair on the floor and icing on the cake I opened the drawer looking for hotel slippers (1 robe and 0 slippers provided…in both rooms we were placed in…) and found USED DISPOSABLE MEDICATION NEEDLES (like the ones you attach to a med pen…not like heroin or anything like that) but still, not something I want to see. All signs the room wasn’t cleaned properly. Hire a better cleaning crew. Unacceptable.
I called to make the front desk aware and they apologized and changed our room without any hesitation. But sad to say the only difference in the next room, was there were no used needles and I didn’t notice any hair. But the mildew shower tiles is gross!!! Also, King size pillows exist. The standard size pillow on a king sized bed is super tacky. Thank God we only had to endure one night.
We checked out the roof top and it was ehhh. Nice view that’s about it. Would not return
Cleanliness of the rooms especially the bathroom.

The hotel was excellent. However, I booked on line for a rehearsal event. Did not realize when I googled Marriott hotel that booking .com came up so I did not get hotel rates that others got booking directly with hotel. A very sneaky practice. I asked at hotel why my rate was much higher that others in our party , they said because I used booking.com. The hotel could not/would not change my rate. Would not even give me senior discount. Hard to see fine print on phone . Although the place was nice , I was upset I got charged $377 for 1 night 1 person and they would not accommodate me in any way. They said sorry nothing we can do for you. So sorry I will not be back. Someone should ban these deceptive things from popping up , it is your hotel site that I googled so at least side with your customers!
Staff was nice but refused to accommodate my very high rate. Could have been accommodating when others paid $100 less. Sorry your fault they said basically. Not very customer friendly.

Room had a balcony.
Hotel double charged me when I already was charged by Booking.com

Greeted by slightly obnoxious drunk visitor at check-in desk; staff handled situation well; no wash rags in bathroom

Very comfortable, clean and quiet. The staff was wonderful. The valet drivers were great.

Very clean. Spacious. Modern.
For $450 a night I didn't even have toothpaste in the room. And having to make reservations for breakfast at the bar??? Seriously???

Quiet clean friendly atmosphere.
Payment machine not working elevators stopped working I requested a king bed and a queen was in the room

The roof top deck was very nice. Hotel staff seemed polite.
Distance. It rained during our stay and this made the drive from Philly not good. Other than that/we enjoyed our visit.

Good location.
Room (s) weren’t clean, even after changing rooms. Very small rooms compared to listed size on the website.

Loved the bar. The cocktails and wings were delicious! The room was a nice size, clean and stylish. The location was perfect for our event.
Our room didn't have any hand soap or body wash. The brunch service was very slow. The bed could have been a little firmer.

Wish I had more time to spend here. A+ I had just come from a "4 star hotel" in PA night before where I could not sleep, could not get comfortable, could not block out the road noise. Walked into MC and said THIS is more like it. Instantly comfortable there. Everything was ON POINT.

Upon check in, the front desk rep was not personable, and said "oh here these are for you" and handed me two bottles of water. What?! These should have been in the room already. This made me feel like I was paying $250 to stay at the Red Roof. Lighting fixtures on the wall did not work. A porter came and tried a new bulb but no luck. No building engineer ever returned to fix the light.
I couldn't figure out how to use the coffee machine. A porter named Michael came to the room and showed us how it worked and replenished the coffee supplies. He was very courteous and personable.

Room was almost bare. No clothes storage space. Seemed like it was missing a desk, a wardrobe or dresser, a chair, and some art.

Food wasn’t great from the menu. Not very warm or tasty.
Great location for where I was working. Lots of restaurants within walking distance.

This is a beautiful hotel and the staff is super friendly. They allow dogs which is helpful . Prices at the restaurant and rooftop bar are very reasonable for the area. The rooms are spacious and I especially loved the bathroom.
There's nothing I didn't like.

staff, location, structure
price on parking is higher than it should. breakfast could be cheaper for customers.

I was recommended the hotel because it was closest to my esthetician
I was a solo lady traveler in NJ and in the US for the first time. On the first night of my stay someone entered my room with a key fob while i was in it, of course I was terrified. I went downstairs and reported it to the desk, they didn't apologise to me profusely, i was victim blamed, the receptionist proceeded to tell me he gave another guy the same room number because we had similar surnames anyway I was offered a different room and I kid you not the room offered was a joke, it was dingy, no blinds and way worse than the previous room I had. It was a very stressful experience, I had to call the receptionist again to complain about the room they gave me, he told me well that the room was given to me 20 minutes ago that why was I just complaining about it now. what a joke! I told him I was okay to overlook certain aspects of the room however the room having no blinds was the last straw. The receptionist then asked me what I would like him to do about it. I had to demand he put me in the best room in the hotel, honestly that should have been a given due to the huge blunder they caused. Altogether I had to change rooms 3 times after a long flight with broken suitcases. honestly it was not a good experience only positive I can say is the restaurant in the hotel was nice but no I will not come back to the hotel. if you're a solo traveler and you care about your safety I wouldn't use this hotel either.

Montclair is beautiful and what a wonderful room!! The size, the décor, the furniture, the huge windows with a spectacular view! And probably the nicest bathroom of any hotel I've ever stayed in (loved the walk-in shower)! Nice bar area for a light breakfast. Great location next to lots of amenities and perfect for the Wellmont Theatre. If you like a hike (and are okay with an incline) the Eagle Rock Reservation is reachable on foot and well worth the climb (though be aware there are some parts of the walk up to the reserve which have no path/sidewalk). There's a roof bar which I didn't get chance to visit as it appears to have a smart dress code and I didn't have time to go change. Sounds cool though.
The only real issue for me is that I was a bit surprised and disappointed to have no tea/coffee facilities in the room, considering there was even a fridge. It's unusual (in my experience) to be without this amenity in a 4 star hotel.
The rest of this feedback is super minor and absolutely wouldn't stop me staying again, but I'm offering it in the spirit of being constructive in case it's helpful to the hotel:
*Additional signage in some of the corridors might be helpful - I got a little lost between the elevator and my room a couple of times before I had the route straight in my head.
*Staff were very friendly but most interactions I had throughout my stay were much more time-consuming than they ought to have been (e.g. taking a very long time to make a coffee and take payment, despite me being the only customer at the time), or weren't straightforward (e.g. issues with payments being put through on the wrong card despite a full explanation beforehand).
*Some of the furnishings in the room need a little TLC (broken plant pot, peeling wallpaper, quite a lot of veneer chipped away from both sides of the ottoman).

I liked to modern and sleekness of our room, I also liked how there was a bar downstairs, plus it’s pet friendly.
What I didn’t like is that they charged me a extra $100 on top of the $550 for 2 nights I had to pay :’))
