We had a great time at Sharlene’s place. The private bay was a big hit! It was a short hike down a little trail which opened up to a quiet bay. We swam and fished there every day. Sharlene provided an aluminum boat and we brought a large inflatable boat. The deep fire pit was also a big plus, with s’mores all around. We played outdoor games in the volleyball area. The kids also played on the swing set on the property. Sharlene always answered my texts immediately and was very helpful. We would definitely recommend this for a family gathering. We had 6 adults, 4 kids and a dog.

The house was pretty clean. The only thing I would say was negative about the cleanliness is that it had a very musty moisture smell to it that hit you every time you walked in the house after being out and about. The house was very comfortable for my family of 4 as 2-3 other family members couldn’t make it last minute. Ultimately, I would stay again if I had 6-8 people coming along.

Sharlene's property has a beautiful view of Curlew Lake. It is very spacious and accommodated our large group with areas for kids, teens, and adults. I was impressed by the many extras provided: spices, condiments, a large variety of cooking pans and serving dishes, games for inside and out, plenty of paper towels and toilet paper. We had a wonderful time with our family and will return to this house if possible in the future.

Beautiful view of the lake. It was laid out with our comfort in mind. It was so easily accessible.

The location of the house and views were great. The house had lots of plants which left seeds all over the couches and floor which we had to constantly brush off. Another reason why we wouldn’t give this 5 stars is the internet was very slow. My husband tried to do some work remotely and could not use zoom. The communication was great but the cleanliness of the house and lack of internet made it not ideal.

The house was beautiful with spectacular views of the lake. The kitchen was a great place to gather with the family. Close to walking trail and not too far from town. Our host was very responsive with communications and helpful with questions. Would definitely recommend to others.

Good ice fishing! Love the heated tile! 6 guys, all over 50 had a great stay! Having the driveway plowed and sanded was super nice for access! Thank you… took us a while to figure out light switches (might install small labels?). Of course we are all over 50! 😂 awesome place!

My family and I rented this house for new years weekend. Great communication with the property owner, and was allowed to check in a few hours early! The view of the lake is beautiful! Close to town and restaurants, about a 10 minute drive. The house is huge, with plenty of sleeping space and restrooms. Overall, a great experience!

We were unable to make our trip due to a change in family plans last minute, however our experiene leading up to the stay is worth the review! We were able to drive by & check it out a few weeks prior. The premises are wonderful! Circle deiveway, outdoor activities, INCREDIBLE view of the Lake, everything needed to accomodate for a large family gathering (which we will be returning for in Spring)! The owner had the driveway plowed & home ready for our arrival. So understanding with our situation & was prompt to respond to all of my questions. We can't wait till next year where we can share our experience of actually staying!!

We stayed here as a staff retreat with spouses for 3 nights. The owner was fantastic to communicate with. The property and house were more beautiful than the pictures can explain. The area was incredibly quiet and also amazing! All in all, every aspect of our stay was better than we could have hoped for! I would highly recommend this VRBO to anyone considering staying and I will be using it again!

My family and I stayed at Sharlene’s place for a family reunion/memorial for my grandfather who owned a ranch for 40 years in the nearby town of Malo. The location of the house was perfect for our visit and to relive some of our memories of the area. We really enjoyed the property, it has beautiful views, especially from any of the three terraces on the house that face the lake. Sharlene made sure we knew about all of the activities that were available to us and always responded to our questions in a timely manner. I don’t know if we’ll ever come back to the area but everyone in our group agreed that we would stay at this house again.

Our visit to Curlew lake worked out just right. We had 5 adults and 4 children (8-12). Mainly just slept in the house as my sister owns a house just 2 miles away. We did enjoy very much the kayaks that were on the trailer because we were able to transport them to my sister's beach. Did find path to lake from house but was rather steep in places. Thanks to previous review we did stock up on water and with the multiple refrigerators could keep it cold. Only negative thing I can say about house was there was just a little too much clutter for my taste.

We had a trip with extended family planned. Due to Covid it ended up beng just me and my spouse. We enjoyed the beautiful views and the quiet! We had a chance to read, sleep late and relax. There was lots to do but for us the R&R was wonderful!
Highly recommend Esther’s in republic.. really good Mexican food!

What a stunning location! Plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have their own space. We played horseshoes, badminton, pingpong, went for a lovely walk along the trestle across the lake. Deer walk through the yard throughout the day. What a great place to spend time with a fun-loving family.

For the most part, we had a lovely stay in this house. Everything was set up for us that we needed and did not want for much. The goat-trail down to the kayaks was steeper than we anticipated and was difficult for everybody to maneuver, but most of us were fine. The main thing I had not noticed anybody talk about was the sulfur content of the well water; it was quite pungent and most of our group was unable to drink it comfortably. We knew Republic was an old mining town and had heard of water issues from an environmental engineer that works in the area, but we failed to ask sufficient questions. We did find water at the local co-op relatively inexpensively and that made the rest of first day much better. That said, the host was very quick to respond to any queries we had and gave many tips of what to do in the area. We would absolutely consider coming back again, this time with water in hand.

Perfect for our family reunion!
The property is beautiful! My favorite feature is the beautiful light, tall painted ceilings, and balconies and views. The aspen leaves outside some of the window were mesmerizing. We stayed here for a family reunion and there was plenty for everyone to do. We enjoyed kayaking, swimming, badminton, ping pong, and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. The kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked with essentials. Two refrigerators helped store all our food, and there was plenty of space for over a dozen people to enjoy each other’s company. Air conditioning worked well and we were able to access free an open network WIFI. The beds were comfortable, and I especially appreciated the crisp cotton sheets. The owner was always available, very helpful and kind.
Some things you should be aware of (I knew to expect them from previous reviews)
1. The property has four bedrooms two full bathrooms and an extra powder room/toilet on the main level. The master suite is actually a beautiful loft upstairs with a queen bed and a twin bed. It is completely open concept. The is a toilet, sink, and a tub are in a large nook in the corner but *they are mostly out in the open*. There is a free standing dressing divider that we put in front of the toilet, but even so, no one felt comfortable using those facilities. If you sleep in the loft, you will hear everything that goes on in the main floor, and those in the main floor will hear you.
2. It’s not perfect for everyone. I would not feel comfortable having a toddles, someone with mobility challenges, or someone with severe allergies in this property. The home is decorated with many antiques, collectibles, and live plants. One of the plants was flowering and shedding and had an unpleasant odor. There are a lot of stairs and uneven ground outside for accessing all the extra activities. The foot path leading to the private dock with the kayaks is narrow and rugged. While my 72-year-old dad was able to use it, I found some difficulty with the uneven terrain.
3. Everyone who swam in the lake got swimmers itch. Like the rugged terrain, this isn’t something the owner can control. If you swim in the lake on a warm day be sure to rinse off and towel dry immediately. We made the mistake of sun bathing in the nearby public beach, unknowingly making ourselves more susceptible to the burrowing wrigglers.
Overall I’m delighted to have found this place and would happily return.

Strong positives and a few negatives
The view is stunning from the house. Beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is large with good counter space. The outdoor space is very nice and there is a wonderful fire pit.
The walk to the trestle for hiking, fishing or biking is very handy so we liked the location.
The walk to the kayaks on the lake could be tricky for many because it’s steep but the kayaks are available.
I would have preferred a much simpler, less decorated environment.
The house has an open floor plan so you need to be okay with possible noise.
I would really prefer window screens so you could open windows.
The owner was always very helpful.

Fishing trip with sons and grandsons
The house was in a nice location with a great view. It was close to a great fishing spot that could be walked to.
We had a larger group that filled all the beds.
The upstairs area is wide open so the bed and bathroom there could be a problem for groups that could have privacy issues.
We enjoyed using the ping pong table and horse shoe pit.
This was a nice upgrade from the fishing cabins we rented last year.

Family Gathering
The house was great. We liked that the kitchen was large and open to the dining and living area. The downstairs worked great for those that needed nap time. We enjoyed smores at the fire pit and the view of the lake is beautiful.

Ice Fishing get-away
The Spirit of Curlew was everything and more. While things started out bad, the passes were closed, and we couldn’t make it on our scheduled check in. That was quickly fixed. We were able to stay an additional day.
The accommodations were just as advertised. For a large group there was plenty of room to spread out, or be together. The kitchen was fully supplied (best we have ever seen)!
The owner was quick to react when we needed to adjust our arrival and when the internet was down upon arrival. We never did get the direct tv working, but we didn’t need it.
The ice fishing was great!
Thank you for a wonderful getaway!

Quiet Get away in a beautiful setting
This is a lovely home. The setting is overlooking Lake Curlew, gorgeous. My mother is 81 so I brought her to see her great grandchildren. During the day the children came to see us. They loved to play outside on the beautiful grounds. There were lots of things to do. Internet worked well and the beds were comfortable.

Peaceful retreat
This house is beautiful and comfortable. The views are spectacular. The property is secluded. My kids loved the ping-pong table and we played badminton at the volleyball court and horseshoes. it was super nice to have the kayaks down by the lake access as well as the ones to take down to the Trestle. Sharlene was easy to contact and very helpful!

Spirit of Curlew Lake is not made for guests comfort nor do they care.
Arrived at the rental and house has good curb appeal and huge rock arch with sign makes you expect same decor and excitement about the lake. Our key was not out where we were directed. Door was unlocked. Found a set of keys on table inside. Inside of the house was quite a surprise. It was more like a personal home full of antiques, nic nacs lined every windowsill and space everywhere. The home was full of scented candles which is not allergen friendly. The living space upstairs would not have fit 15 people. The claw foot tub has a huge rust stain and both bathtubs were dirty where sticky grips used to be. Did not use them. Main bath floor is dirty and damaged. Numerous huge plants are dust catchers. Windows with views are distracted by all of the owners stuff. Scope on porch was frozen and did not work so just one more thing blocking the view. Bbq is lower level from kitchen and briquettes so not great locations and ridiculous during fire seasons and we drove past fire activity as we traveled. We had a 4 lb Yorkie and very dangerous ledge to open stairway going downstairs with a full drop that could be deadly for children and pets. Only blocked by a row of plants and dog was attracted by musty odors. Bathroom mirror is hung high because of electrical and could only see above my chin. No place to hang clothes or set suitcases. More set for show of owners stuff than the comfort of the guests. Kayaks were not located in easy to walk area and area full of does and spotted fawns and not wise to disturb them in their feeding areas or they could become protective. I ended up getting sick from the over 29 candles and scented items and we left the next day. I contacted the owner and kindly asked for a refund for the 2nd night and made a complaint about the excessive scented items. She felt I should have removed her items from the bedroom and her air filter takes care of this. Unacceptable answer and never responded and did charge me. Owner was upset we locked the door upon leaving and put out the keys in the spot. In reading her reviews she responds back to guests with any criticism bluntly and shuts them down. The outside of Spirit of Curlew Lake is lovely giving you the expectation of a relaxing guesthouse. That is a fake branding. It is not geared towards guests showing what Lake Curlew has to offer with wildlife, fish, water sports, trails or even a little welcome treat. No recommendation.

Our family had a wonderful time there. Great views of the lake
Overall nice place and views. Our family had a wonderful time there. Owner was very helpful. Interesting master bathroom. Grandkids loved the master bathtub. Owner has some kayaks at the house and some down a very steep trail to the lake. We used the upper ones and took them to a friends house to use on the lake. Easy to put 3 in back of my truck.
