About this villa rental
Lovely Hikaru has undergone a very sensitive renovation, honoring the striking modern clean lines, while adding some new touches overseen by our very talented designer Sophie and her Building Team under the direction of Mr Luke.
We now have 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, 3 of which featuring outdoor stone showers, a new kitchen house with polished concrete floors and counters, a much larger open living room with built in concrete couches, restored original vintage Quaker furnishings, ceilings opened to the metal roof lined with white tongue in groove board, African fabric covered furniture, new locally made Ratan lighting, high efficiency white 3- blade ceiling fans, and AC units in the 6 bedrooms (for those who want them- many will not so that they can be soothed by the ocean/mountain breezes and the sound of the crashing waves).
You will now enjoy a covered chic seating area on the lower seaside facing terrace, and a covered front porch with built in seating. We will certainly preserve the many wonderful mid-century features of this home.
Villa Hikaru is pleased to announce the completion of a second bedroom (with a bunk bed) in Garfield Cottage! This separate cottage located just behind the main villa has been gorgeously restored into the perfect tiny house, offering an embracing space for four additional guests with their own kitchenette, bathroom, a screened porch off of each bedroom and deck! It has been named Garfield Cottage in loving memory of one of the owner's Jamaican born physician father who loved such structures. This is only rented with the main villa to assure your privacy during your stay. With the addition of Garfield Cottage Villa Hikaru now comfortably houses 12! And we are thrilled to say we've gone solar which means we are fully powered by the Jamaican sunshine!
This unspoiled area is one of the few fisherman's villages that welcomes tourist -- not a tourist area that tolerates fishermen.
Our six-bedroom beachfront villa includes a 50-foot lap pool, private newly renovated tennis court, croquet court, and wonderful cook-housekeepers.
You can walk deserted beaches, or snorkel, body-surf, or fish. You can photograph and share the lives of our fishermen neighbors; or you can enjoy the privacy of an acre-plus lot, shielded by trees and flowers.
Privacy: We're in a fishing village, but shielded by heavy plantings on an acre and a quarter. And you even pick your own tropical fruit! Our village neighbors will welcome you if you choose to visit, but will not intrude. Watch for returning fishing boats from our patio, then walk 300 yards to the harbor to watch fish weighed and sold -- and bring some home! Or walk to the west over a series of all-but-deserted beaches, half-mile scallops of sandy beach separated by reef spurs you can climb over or wade over in reef shoes.
We allow two tradespeople -- a basket maker and wood carver -- to come into the back yard to show their wares. Miss Venecia will tell you they're there; it you say no thanks, they'll pack up and leave.
You can walk a hundred yards down our lane, if you'd like, to learn to play grown-up dominoes at a neighbor's bar.
Touristic things: Our groundskeeper leads a walk into the hills behind us, pointing out birds and orchids.
You can drive to Black River, or hire a local boatman, to see the historic slave-trading block, visit the colorful local outdoor market, or -- best of all -- go up the river a few miles, through mangrove forests and open marshlands occupied by colorful birds and crocodiles. On the way home, stop at the famous Pelican Bar for a drink.
The night sky and views : With almost no light pollution, the stars are brilliant. Go for a midnight dip in the pool, but once there turn the pool lights off to enjoy the magnificent sky. Only one Dipper at a time to the north; the Southern Cross rising over the ocean during the night.
Our wide patio catches an onshore breeze most of the day, and gives you a panoramic view of the Caribbean at your doorstep so wide you'll have to turn your head to take it all in.
All this while Miss Venesia and Miss Cedrena keep house for you, shop and prepare and serve all meals, and make it a very special vacation.

We had 4 adults and 3 kids, and it was our first time staying at Villa Hikaru. We would definitely stay again! The house is beautiful, clean, open and airy. It’s almost more of an outside house than an inside house. Almost every room opens to the outside. The pool is beautiful, and the grounds are well maintained and have gorgeous flowers blooming. We loved the tennis court too. There were rackets at the house, and we played most mornings. The beach is right in front of the house and offers shallow, clear water for great swimming. There are beautiful sunsets at the beach each night, and we enjoyed watching crabs scurrying around at dusk on the beach.
The staff (Venesia and Elisha) were welcoming, helpful, and kind. They prepared amazing breakfasts and dinners. We opted for many jamaican meals for our dinners, but they were also extremely helpful when our pickier kids had special requests.
Overall it was a fantastic house in a fantastic place.

Villa Hikaru is an amazing property in a stunning location. The staff - Venesia, Elisha, and Patrick - are warm, welcoming, and super helpful. As well as the beautifully appointed rooms, the lush gardens - home to many birds - offer many lovely nooks where you can sit or lie. Then there is the swimming pool, the tennis courts, the boule pitch, and easy access to a secluded beach. It’s bliss.

From the pickup to the breakfast, to the dinner, deserts, pool, everyone was awesome at providing everything we needed. Food was exactly what we expected and privacy was par none as the beach front access is better than all other properties in the area.
Get on a boat and ride the cost you won’t regret it.

Villa Hikaru is an amazing property! The villa is beautiful – open air, thoughtfully decorated, and well-kept. Most of the living area is outdoors with a living room and 4 bedrooms opening to the main outdoor living space. Two of the bedrooms have doors that open directly outside to this space. The other two bedrooms have a small connecting space with one door that opens to the outside. Meals were served at the large table in the outdoor space and the lounge chairs here were perfect for relaxing with a view of the ocean. The breeze kept this area comfortable even during the hottest afternoons. (While the mosquitos weren’t terrible, there were a few around and we were glad to have bug spray.)
The staff was incredible. Vanesia and Elesha worked with us to set a Jamaican menu that our families would enjoy. The meals were excellent and really made the experience of staying at the Villa! We appreciated trying their specialties and enjoyed chatting with them about what they were making. We were truly spoiled by the food and service. Patrick does an excellent job of keeping up the property and assuring everything is in order. He shared his knowledge of the area and the plants on the property and helped the kids pick mangos and find coconuts to drink from.
There are several areas great for enjoying views of the ocean and the gardens on the property. The pool gets some shade throughout the day and the shaded lounge area by the pool is nice to have. We loved being able to play tennis on the oceanfront tennis court, though anyone going to play should be aware that there is a slope to the court and the surface is rough. It’s a great amenity that we had a lot of fun with but would not be a good fit for anyone who takes their game too seriously. The beach is quiet and the water crystal clear. The shallow area just outside of the villa’s gates is somewhat protected and provides a calm place for kids to swim.
Villa Hikaru is remote and far from the touristy areas. (The 2.5+ hour drive from Montego Bay is on rough, winding, and narrow roads.) This is absolutely part of the charm. This quiet fishing community is welcoming of visitors but it is not a community that was built for tourism. There are a very limited number of small shops, bars, and restaurants. We loved the fresh fish and lobster at Eggy’s, a very small spot on the beach. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming. We could not have asked for a better experience or a more beautiful location!

Lovely property with gorgeous views. We had a great time at the Villa. Exactly as advertised. Keep in mind, this is not a house. It is actually a true villa with each bedroom facing the ocean with its own door with its own lock that opens to the outside. Make sure to grab one of the bedrooms, which is three of the four, that has its own outdoor shower. The food was very good, but we wish we sat the menu instead of taking their suggestions. If you order lobster, I strongly suggest that you either have it on the first night or ask them to go out and purchase of the day they are cooking it. We saw beautiful lobsters on our first day and they put them in the freezer, which totally ruined the lobster. It was really not edible and a shame. Just a note for the chef for the future. We cannot complain. The service was impeccable and they went out of their way to serve us beautiful fruits and different dishes every day. Make sure to bring plenty of US dollars as the local ATM only gives you Jamaican dollars. Don’t feel the need to bring any floats or tennis rackets as they have everything you need, including beach chairs. Thanks for a great trip

Amazing vacation at Villa Hikaru
Our stay at Villa Hikaru was an experience we enjoyed very much. From the Treasure Island Driver meeting us at the Airport, to the welcoming committee of Rebecca, Vanessa, Elisha and Patrick. It was a very warm and friendly welcome as we were all tired, 10 of us, from our flight being 2 hours delayed leaving Philadelphia.
Vanessa and Elisha had dinner waiting for us when we arrived, and it was delicious. Every meal was authentic Jamaican style and full of flavor. Just tell the ladies what meats you want and let them do the rest; you will enjoy it. We ventured out to the closest local Restaurant, 77 West, and it was actually a great option for lunch. Groceries are very expensive and outside of chicken, most meats were not readily available. It would be best to know what types of meat you would like well in advance of your arrival, thereby allowing the staff ample time to buy the items. Best bet - order as much of your foods and drinks you think you will want prior to your arrival.
We found the rooms and the showers exactly how we imagined them, beautiful. Our only suggestion would be to invest in some mattress crates to provide a little more comfort. I found the mattress to be too “firm” for my liking (almost to the point of discomfort).
The AC units were in good working conditions. Didn’t need them often but on some nights it did help us cool down a bit.
We found the pool to be in excellent condition, well maintained and very refreshing all throughout the day. No need to take your water floats or pool toys; they have a chest full of just about anything you might want in the pool. Access to the beach was a great amenity; the only drawback was the public access to the beach was right alongside the property, so you will see and hear people as they are accessing the beach.
The Villa is fully equipped with many amenities except there was not a TV in the Cottage. There is only one TV in the Villa, which was in the main room and that was great because we went there to unplug, unwind and enjoy quality family time; however, being that it is a separate space, a TV in the cottage would be nice.
Take plenty of bug spray; mosquitos are treacherous there, especially during dusk.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we would definitely recommend Villa Hikaru as a place to stay.

Need to Know!!!unconnected from civilization retreat
Hikaru’s house & grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The staff were kind and prepared excellent island unique foods for us that was in line with our dietary requests. Grounds keeper, Patrick made us feel safe and was always available. He was an educational source of local culture/plants and cut us fresh coconuts to drink the water. Negatives for us was we weren’t prepared For how remote and isolated it is. 2.5 hour drive from the closest airport and it is not cheap when you have to hire drivers to take you anywhere. Be prepared with lots of currency (US or Jamaican currency) we didn’t come across an excursion or store that took credit cards in Treasure Beach. Only 1 ATM & It runs out of money if you don’t get there early. We came to the conclusion that the hot water is heated by solar, so take a shower before the sun goes down . Only bedrooms have A/c & 1 indoor shower, The rest are outdoor showers which is fabulous ! Buy alcohol or other necessities before you leave main city. No one could get the TV to work but it wasn’t a big loss for us, we could watch Netflix on our computers at night. Tennis court unplayable, needs to be resurfaced and painted.
As far as Treasure Beach, Shame on the government for not doing a better job of having their prisoners or offering a recycle system to get all of the plastic bottles & trash that are just thrown on the sides of the road, you can’t walk 2 feet and there’s trash anywhere outside of the property. Jamaica allows dogs & cats to be tied up or run wild. Some are pregnant & starving, which is disturbing to see. They need serious interventions to make the surrounding area pleasant for foreign vacationers. Overall I feel like the people are friendly, they just need help From their government & to make a community effort to clean up the massive unattractive, unsanitary litter! It’s as simple as using a trash bag and picking it up!! 😢
Owner and property manager are very professional and respond really quick to any questions!!

A Shining Example of Hospitality and Tranquility
My family and I recently spent a magical week at Villa Hikaru – hosted by the wonderful Patrick, Vanesia, Nadine and Elesha. Fantastic food (we opted for a traditional Jamaican menu and everything was truly delicious), amazing accommodation (even better than the pictures) and fantastic location right on the beach. The team at Treasure Tours (Rebecca, Debbian and Amanda) were also super friendly and welcoming and went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed. We will remember our week here forever and are already talking about returning as soon as we can. I can't recommend Hikaru highly enough. We will be back! Duncan and family

We had our first tropical family Christmas vacation at Villa Hikaru. Everything about this experience was amazing! The staff greeted us on Christmas Eve and surprised us with a delicious lobster dinner. Vanesia and Elesha prepared delectable Jamaican breakfasts and dinners, as we requested a Jamaican menu. They made our whole family feel welcome and pampered. Patrick, the groundskeeper is a wealth of knowledge of the area’s offerings and was awesome with our grandchildren.
I can’t say enough about the beauty of the villa and grounds. We enjoyed the pool, beach, and tennis courts, along with the tranquil vibe all around us. There were so many cozy hideaways on the property, both inside and out.
Treasure Tours arranged our comfortable transportation from the airport and back, as well as a couple excursions we went on. Their attention to detail was much appreciated.
I highly recommend this property, especially for those who are looking to unplug and rejuvenate! We would love to return to Villa Hikaru.

Our family reunion over Thanksgiving was perfect. The rooms at Hikaru are just right with elegant design, locally built furniture, slatted/screened windows with wonderful fans (and A/C if inclined but we did not need it). Private outdoor showersThe central dining table has one of the most stunning views I have ever found to eat with bright bougainvillea draping in front of you just under your eyes to the sea. There were 9 of us and plenty of room for everyone. My mother in law loved the little cottage just remodeled 30 feet from the main entrance. The meals at Hikaru are Jamaican gourmet (our preference to eat the local cuisine such as jerk chicken and plantain), flexible and even better prepared and served by two extraordinary women, Elisha and Vaneesha, who we all enjoyed immensely. They accommodated my dietary restrictions with a smile. There are many gorgeous sitting areas throughout to read, take in the view or just have some private time.
I loved walking the property with the carefully and beautifully designed plantings by my new friend Patrick, the caretaker/gardener who was more than happy to show me around and procure a coconut for us to sip the sweet water. The steps lead down the hill to the the lap pool (50 feet!) which we indeed used, as well as the tennis court with the prettiest view of any on which I have played. The beach directly below finds scalloped bays in either direction, and a barrier coral reef just offshore. Patrick can show you where to snorkel on a calm day. The swimming was an excellent cool down, and the local boys playing there were so friendly! A very short walk leads one way to a fishing village, and the other to a very small boutique hotel that sits on a bluff; a nice spot for a little lunch away if you wish.
I was struck by how welcoming everyone in Treasure Beach and at Hikaru were to all of our family. One man said "We are like a big family ourselves as we all know each other.” I would recommend using Treasure Tours for transportation as there is not much need to leave while you are there.
I thought about anything that I would change at Hikaru, and I came up with just wanting to go back, sip the rum punch and watch the sunset again.

Incredible Island Getaway
We stayed at Hikaru between Christmas and New Years and it was the most incredible week. Eleshia and Vaneshia were incredibly attentive and Rebecca checked on us several times and arranged some trips for us. We felt right at home with the entire staff and by the end of the week we felt like they were part of our family.
Patrick, the groundskeeper was amazing and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. We loved getting to know him and the ladies of the house as well. Our kids, ages 18, two 7 year olds, and a 3 year old, allade friends with the locals and were immediately accepted by the locals, who played with and went out of their way to include our kids in their fun.
The house was perfect and lovely in every way. We had so much fun swimming in the gorgeous pool and the beach was perfect. We had incredible breakfasts and dinnners each day outdoors overlooking the sea. The ladies made every effort to make our meals special and nice and we loved eating in and being treated like family. The rooms are all beautiful and comfortable and the outside showers were a real treat.
We cannot ever fully explain how amazing our time at Villa Hikaru was, but they are memories that will last a lifetime. Our kids loved every minute of this trip and my husband and I were left totally enchanted by the lovely home, but even more by the sweet and wonderful people we met. This is an all around dream trip!

Impressively relaxing
I loved staying at Hikaru. The accommodation was well laid out and there were lots of areas to relax in. We were there to attend my father's funeral nearby so needless to say it was a stressful time for our family, however Hikaru was the perfect sanctuary with the atmospheric sounds of the sea just at the end of the property, the immaculate pool, peaceful gardens and friendly locals. The staff were very kind and helpful as well providing amazing food and caring lovingly for the living space. I was there with my husband, son, 4 nephews and a couple of adult cousins over the period of our stay.

A true treasure indeed.
This house and the lovely ladies are the true treasure in Treasure Beach. The house is wow in every way and there is not one fault I could find. The lovely ladies who keep the house so beautifully clean and cook the most special food are the true representation of old world Jamaica and the essence of what I fell in love with in this dear country 30 years ago. If you love good style, beautiful views, walking on the beach, swimming in the perfect temp pool, playing tennis or cards, and eating super delicious food then this is the place for you.

Perfect place to unwind and rejuvenate!
If you want a place where you can unplug from the day-to-day hustle and bustle, Villa Hikaru will help you forget about it all. From reconnecting with nature by walking on the private beach just steps away, being lulled to sleep by the sounds of waves while relaxing on the chaise on the veranda, and lots of comfortable areas to curl-up and take in the breathtaking views; our family enjoyed every moment.
We woke up every morning to the smell of a delicious breakfast spread that was only topped by an equally fantastic dinner. Vanesia and Elisha are fabulous cooks and their warm hearts made us feel right at home.
The bed and bath rooms are beautifully decorated and it is not hard to miss all of the design details. However, I guarantee you will not spend much time in them. You'll much rather be outside soaking in the peace and tranquility or watching the beautiful sunset. We can't wait to go back!

Perfect Caribbean Vacation Getaway
Our first steps into Hikaru took our breath away. As we walked into the colorfully and stylishly appointed villa and onto the terrace, we were greeted by the warmth of the ocean breeze and a stunning view of the sea. Our sense of wonder never left us during our week-long trip. The staff doted on us with such affection that we felt like long-lost family members. We dined on fresh and unfailingly delicious Caribbean delights each day. We spent hours frolicking in the well-maintained L-shaped lap pool. We soaked in the sun on the serene and quiet beach that lies just at the foot of Hikaru. The house itself is stunning - immaculate, comfortable, spacious, and filled with vibrant, creative design elements that were in full harmony with the natural beauty of Jamaica. The outdoor showers were a particularly luxurious treat. Villa Hikaru is such as treasure - the perfect place for anyone in search of an authentically-Caribbean and truly restorative vacation.

Hidden Gem in Jamaica
Hidden Gem in Jamaica
We had a beautiful time during our stay at Villa Hikaru. Ms. Elesha, Ms. Vanesha, and Mr. Patrick were warm, considerate, and welcoming. They made sure our every need was met and made accommodations to make the delicious meals based on our specific dietary needs (vegetarian and gluten-free). The villa has been beautifully renovated to transform it to a luxurious space with beautiful shapes, designs and colors while maintaining its cozy and relaxing ambience. The beach is only a few steps away. If you wake up early enough, you can greet the friendly fishermen and watch them sail away for their daily catch. The spacious porch, the pool, beautifully designed lower terrace and the open showers are all great spots to catch the sunset.

Paradise in Jamaica
Hikaru was the BEST place to stay in Jamaica. It is part of the Community Tourism approach of Treasure Beach - an area free of all-inclusive resorts where tourists can mingle with locals in a way that enriches your experience as well as supports the local community, keeping crime and harassment lower than any other part of Jamaica. We enjoyed drinks or dining out at some of the many local eating establishments in the area, as well as playing soccer with the kids on the beach. The villa itself is perfectly located right on (literally steps from the house) a quiet and private stretch of beach. Though not very deep (about waist high), the sandy beach is constantly protected by the reef and so is swimmable even when conditions are rough and has really outstanding snorkeling. The grounds of the house are amazing - full of flowers and views - and the gardener Patrick has wonderful insight and history to share. Our multi-generational family of 7 (from age 10 to almost 80) found many ways to enjoy time at this home - from swimming in the ocean or the immaculate pool, walking the beach, playing tennis, or just playing games or lounging in one one of the many shady and beautiful spots with ocean view, breeze, and sounds: the lower thatched hut, pool-side bed, middle deck lounging couch, upper deck table, and even the rooms and central house. We especially enjoyed fabulous Jamaican breakfasts and dinners prepared for us by most excellent cooks Vaneesha and Elisha (no restaurant compared to their skill) eaten at the big table on the upper deck. The kitchen was spacious and clean and allowed us to prepare our own lunches or snacks from food bought at the grocery just steps from the house, or Black River (about 45 min drive), or fruit stands we encountered along the way there from Kingston. The rooms are all so serenely and cleanly decorated (great batik textiles from a local Treasure Beach shop), and the outdoor showers (connected to 3 out of the 4 rooms) are sublime. Rebecca and her team were incredibly helpful with ANYthing that arose - a plumbing issue, internet access, need to visit a doctor - all were handled with *immediate* helpfulness and professionalism. Be sure to check out the book "Near A Far Sea: A Jamaican Odyssey" written by the first owner who built the house in 1973 - it was a pleasure to read, while also enjoying the recent and extensive renovations that made this place truly gorgeous and ready for more visitors.

A Treasure in Treasure Beach
What a glorious place--and the villa truly feels like a home! A great alternative to big resorts set in the secluded community of Treasure Beach. Inside and out, the house is spectacular yet relaxing. The views of the beach and ocean are stunning; the stretch of beach the property borders is large but not crowded and the area for swimming is well protected by reef rocks which provide amazing views of colorful fish. We went on several memorable walks up the rocky coast making it back in time for the gorgeous sunsets.
It's such a treat to wake up to the sound of the waves in Villa Hikaru. The bedrooms are relaxing and tastefully-furnished, and we loved the attached outdoor showers. The living room and covered terrace are perfect places to spend part of the afternoon or evening playing games, socializing or reading. We enjoyed both the lap pool and tennis court, and the grounds are well maintained, with lovely, local trees and plants throughout.
The staff are a treasure - friendly and helpful. Vaneesha and Elisha prepared wonderful Jamaican food - fresh seafood and Blue Mountain coffee - that we have been missing dearly. Patrick, the gardener, brought our son a fresh coconut for his birthday. Meals are served on the veranda overlooking the water. Each of the six or so restaurants we found in Treasure Beach served tasty, reasonably priced food and we enjoyed the local boutiques. In sum, we'd love to return and would highly recommend Villa Hikaru to anyone wanting to visit Jamaica.
