Great location. For the price, they could give more attention to common daily items like ample toilet paper, etc.

Fabulous all the way around!

Overall a great location! The house is shows it's age, but the location and being on the water overrides any shortcomings. Being right on the water, steps from the beach and walking distance to town was perfect. Great communication from the property manager. They quickly resolved any issues or questions we had. We would definitely stay in this location again!

We absolutely loved our stay at Honl's Beach Hale. It was beautiful, quiet and relaxing. The property had everything we needed during our stay. The management was great at communicating with us; each process to get house keys. We loved watching the ocean waves, the sunset, the sunrise, the boats and being so close to the ocean. The bedrooms stay cool at night with the window air conditioners and the beds were really comfortable. We highly recommend this property and will definitely stay there again if we return to Big Island.

We absolutely loved the outdoor space this home offered oppose to a resort.

Although we both grew up near the ocean, being steps from the waves lapping on the lava rocks was something special. Breakfast on the deck and cocktails toasting the setting sun were both very special. We even viewed whales breeching a few hundred yards offshore one morning.
Located next to Honl's Beach, it was a short and easy stroll into town, yet close enough to golf courses, snorkeling tours and the amazing Volcanoes National Park.
Our next visit to the Hawaiian Islands will once again require being steps from the sea.

We absolutely loved the Honl Beach House!!
It reminded me of the old beach houses at home on Long Island. It was homey and comfortable!! Great vibes!!

House was in a great location with easy walk to beach access four houses down. AC Units in Bedrooms were a life saver, living room never cooled off even with fans and windows open, Unit would be greatly improved with AC in living room, guests had to stay in bedrooms to remain comfortable, or outside where it was cooler in shade then in living room.

This house gave us just what we wanted. Ocean front lounging and taking in of the views and waves.
The house is serviceable and the management very responsive to questions and needs. Highly recommend this spot in paradise.

Great location. Very clean. Comfortable beds. Great lanai. Driveway could use a couple of mirrors for ease of turning into traffic. This is a very special, classic Hawaiian house. Would definitely return.

This property suited our adult family perfectly. We loved snorkeling right from the property and the outdoor shower made rinsing off so nice! We watched whales breaching one morning and enjoyed the quick walk into town. A classic beach house with a great location.

Lovely beach house!
My family (husband, 2 teenagers, and a 7yo) and I enjoyed our stay here. The location on Ali'i Drive is very convenient. We walked to shopping and restaurants often. The ocean being right in your backyard is just amazing! The house was clean, and we appreciated the bodyboards to play with at the beaches. Most of the provided goggles and fins were broken, however, and we didn't realize it until we were trying to use them in the water. Minor pet peeve: no regular table salt provided in the house.
They allowed us to check out an hour later than usual, with last minute notice. I am VERY appreciative of that! We would stay here again :)

Mostly our stay was all good, however the biggest issue was that one of the bedrooms was accessible only through one of the other bedrooms. So to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, you had to go into someone else's bedroom, waking them up. Otherwise it was mostly as advertised, right on the water, with a beautiful view.

We had a good experience with some very positive things to report, but also some issues that we had. The home was originally 1 bd/ 1 bath that was expanded at some point. There is no front door and I could never lock the sliding door (I had to lock the gate assess hoping no one would jump the fence to rob the place). Of note on the new floor plan: there were two rooms added with a bathroom in-between. The one bedroom is accessible through the kitchen but the other bedroom is accessible only through that bedroom (and bath) or through the original bedroom. It doesn't have any egress except through someone else's room. There were outlets that didn't work, we also blew a fuse when a room A/C unit was plugged in; we had ants in the kitchen one day... all kind of expected for an older beach home, but not at the premium price charged.
We enjoyed the wonderful tide pools just beyond the back rock wall. The view was gorgeous and eating out on the covered patio was quite enjoyable. We made use of the outdoor shower (but kind of sharp rocky floor) and the covered spa. Overall a nice experience.

We enjoyed our stay here for its location. The view is spectacular, with beautiful sunsets. My husband enjoyed snorkeling right off the backyard. We made use of the hot tub (though it is not located on the patio as the pictures suggest). We really enjoyed the outdoor shower and the lanai. We spent much time outside. The house itself could use some work. It was clean enough, but it is just quite dated and not as nice as the price and description suggests. There is no central air and one A/C unit did not work. All in all though, we did enjoy our stay here.

The good:
Amazing view of the pacific in private setting
Hot tub worked and was clean
Home fully stocked with pots/pans/silverware/etc, bathroom supplies, towels, beach towels (beach chairs in rough shape)
Walking into town was extremely convenient
Late check out offered
Grill worked and was nice to use
The bad:
Gate was broken and could not be locked from inside. Sliding door on the property but was tricky to lock when leaving.. gate being open gave us some nerves the first night or two
Hot tub is next to the home by the gate, not on the patio by the ocean. The furniture on the patio at the ocean was not nearly as nice as in the pictures
The AC did NOT work… at least not safely. The duct work to the outside was ripped from the wall so the exhaust and hot air stayed in the room.. we used them as fans. It was 85 during the day and 75 at night in September. The bedrooms never got under 80 even during the night. Sleep was possible but uncomfortable. The ocean breeze worked in the living room but not the bedrooms **I asked the property manager to correct this, even just one of them as soon as we got there but didn’t get a response on the matter
The ugly:
MICE. There were mice droppings in the kitchen all over the shelf when we got there. They were eating coffee grinds from previous guests. I cleaned that up and hoped for the best. The next 2 nights they got into all food we had out. I let the property manager know this, I asked to hold off on traps until we left. We stored our food in sealed containers and didn’t have a problem the last night. The exterminator was there setting traps as we left and spotted a few unaddressed holes for easy access in the living room. Dealing with this added a ton of anxiety to the trip.
Overall:
This is a property with so much potential, but it needs some TLC. Mice, gate issues and AC are unacceptable.. if the AC wasn’t in the description, sure it was manageable living without it. I would not have booked a place with no AC. If you are used to roughing it a bit, this place has charm and incredible sunsets.. For us, this place just added too much stress with the issues. I’m going with 3* because obviously this is not advertised as resort living.. and it certainly was not. Give this Honl’s beach hale the makeover it desperately needs!

The property is in a great location if you want to frequent the restaurants and shops on Ali’s Drive. We went on day trips around the island and Kona is a perfect starting point.
One downfall was the air conditioning units did not keep the rooms cool at night. Two of them did not work at all. The addition of ceiling fans would help to move the air.
Outside shower was utilized daily and the patio next to the ocean at sunset is a must. I would definitely recommend this property for a family to stay at.

You really feel like you are part of the ocean here. Sitting outside listening to the waves is the calmest I’ve been in a long time. Loved it and would stay again!

Very good house for a family of 8. Not too fancy, but the oceanfront view and breeze can't be topped. Convenient to Kona-kailua, with all the restaurants and shopping. Extremely comfortable, with bikes and snorkeling gear for your use.
Only down-check was that only one of the bedrooms had working AC. One bedroom had no unit, and the third bedroom's ac was glitchy.

Beautiful central beach location
Our family of 6 adults had a wonderful time staying at this beach house. There is a large parking space, & a great patio with table & chairs for enjoying meals while watching the the ocean. Plenty of room in the house, & it is a nice quiet neighbourhood. They provided beach towels, & there is an outside shower. Be aware, there are only 3 beds. 2 kings & a queen. Photo on rental page showed 4 beds, 2 queens & 2 singles. This rental company has wonderful concierge staff, that helped us pre-book all our activities online before we arrived in Hawaii. Only item I might suggest is they replace some appliances that are showing a bit age & use. But I will definitely recommend this home for families & group of friends to stay. We had a great time here.

Kailua-Kona trip Feb 2020
The house is in a perfect location so we were within walking distance to restaurants, shopping and the market. The guys enjoyed fishing off the rocks and mornings on the lanai allowed us to whale and dolphin watch almost daily. It was an amazing trip!

Great setting - but wow.....
Ok, we have stayed in countless VRBO properties - and if you check our reviews (both from hosts as well as our reviews of properties) they are always top-notch positive. We never have an axe to grind. So, I want to be fair here:
Pros: - the setting is amazing, great oceanfront views
- very close to town, so you can walk to almost everything in the area.
- outside shower (mentioned by many guests) is awesome
- sliding exterior wall was wonderful
Cons: - the house is WAY more rundown than the pictures show. I took many pictures of holes in the baseboards/walls, grimey tile and walls, stained counters, rusted fridge/washer/dryer, etc. For what they charge it's pretty inexcusable that they dont replace these items periodically. I have pics - I'll see if I can post them.
- upon check-in the hot tub water was dirty from the previous guests. We had to call to get it cleaned, so we couldn't use it for 3 days while it was cleaned and came up to temp.
- upon check-in the tv was broken. It took 3 days to have a new tv delivered and installed.
- we are not clean freaks by any stretch, but the house was grimy/dirty (even tho we had to wait til 4pm to check in because the cleaning crew was still working). After complaining for 3 days we had to hire our own cleaning crew who took 4 hours to clean what should have already been clean when we got there (which was eventually reimbursed by the owners).
- the oven and outdoor BBQ were dirty upon our arrival (even the cookie sheets were dirty!).
- we found rodent droppings along the walls and in the corners. The prop manager finally sent an exterminator, so we had the pleasure of having rat traps in the house during our stay.
- chaise lounges are chain-locked to the patio, so you cant move them into the shade when needed. Huh?!
We stayed at this property for 11 days - and once we had it cleaned it was quite "ok". To be honest, when you're outside on the lanai its really quite nice, but for what we paid we felt completely ripped off. Im sorry to say we would NEVER stay here again (and I cant say that about many other VRBO's we have ever stayed in). The owners finally agreed to refund us 1 night stay - but honestly does 1 night out of 11 seem fair for all of the above? All I can say is "rent this home at your own risk". Thankfully we had great VRBO homes the rest of our 23 days in Hawaii, or else our hard-earned vacation could have been an epic disaster. Sorry to be so blunt!

Fabulous Location!
Honl’s Beach Hale was excellent!! We loved eating on the lanai with a beautiful view of the ocean and the property itself was well taken care of. We saw whales spouting and enjoyed sunsets in the hot tub. The house is nicely equipped with lots of things that made our stay easier... lots of kitchen supplies, a cooler, beach chairs, etc. It exceeded our expectations and we would definitely stay there again. Highly recommended!
4.7
Great location! Great outdoor shower!
Great location that is walking distance from many restaurants. The unit itself could use some updating and maintenance. The checkin and checkout couldn't have been any easier. The hot tub, and outside shower, were utilized every day.
4.7
Great views!
We loved the house. It had an outdoor shower with amazing views. It sleeps several people so my family or 7 was able to spread out and enjoy our stay. The house is located at the busiest part of Kona so you do hear quite a bit of traffic passing the house all hours of the night.
Only thing that could make the house outstanding would be to have a gate at the entrance installed. We did experience a homeless person camped out in front of the house one night and bums going through the garbage in the driveway.
4.7
Amazing oceanfront home
Amazing property with snorkeling out your back door and beach literally next door. Close to everything on the west side of Big Island. Property had everything you needed and more.
