Very beautifully maintained property, very central to everything within the old town of Evoras.
Has a lot of old school and lived in charm, and was a perfect retreat for us to relax for a few days and see Evoras.
Victor could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Great stay.

Victor is an excellent host, the whole guest house facility is beautiful, the breakfast was exceptional, you are having it literary in a museum (in a positive way).
Orange trees in blossom.
A great location in the old town of Evora. Parking could be difficult, but you can buy parking in the facility.
The room is a quite spartan and a bit small, w/o much possibility to store your stuff.
But you are anyway the whole day outside exploring Evora.:-)

Charming old family house full of interesting collections and antiquities. Victor - the owner - very welcoming and attentive to any needs or questions. Lovely garden with swimming pool. Only 5 rooms so a great choice if you like peace and quiet and a chat with the owner about the history of the place.

Casa do Escritor was very welcoming and comfortable. Vitor, the owner, was very helpful and pleasant
There were some minor things that needed fixing but nothing critical

This property was lovely, exceptionally clean and had a lovely breakfast. The owner couldn’t do enough for you. Would definitely stay here again if I return to Evora.
The wifi signal wasn’t very strong in the room but we could sit in their cozy living room and use the wifi there. Also gave us a chance to talk to the friendly owner and other guests. So not really a negative.

Beautiful historical home within the walled City. Víctor was the consummate host - very welcoming and supportive during our stay. Room was off the courtyard with unheated pool, clean, fully outfitted with toiletries, met our needs. Enhanced continental breakfast was provided in the beautiful dining room. Evenings in the living room in front of the fire, with wine (purchased) was a wonderful way to end our days in Evora.

Previous glowing reviews raised our expectations. Unfortunately our experience fell way short and we came away thinking that we had been thoroughly deceived. It appears that the “ Victor” factor has heavily influenced the comments of previous reviewers. We met Victor briefly on our first morning. We asked him for a restaurant recommendation. Over to Luisa he said. Told him I had already asked her and her reply was “ they are all good”. He was leaving and said it’s over to Luisa to help you. In the event her overall input was non existent. Whilst she readily accepted our payment immediately on arrival, thereafter we felt that we had been a total inconvenience to her.
We disliked:
The absence of any short term parking to unload/ load our luggage safely and comfortably.
The need to drive for 10 minutes through the narrow streets to find the “free parking” outside the City Walls
No offer to help with our luggage
No meaningful written directions to the parking area other than an X marks the spot on a generic tourist map.
The foul smell from the drains that hit us as we entered the bedroom. In 33 degrees of heat the air in the bedroom was oppressive. This issue was resolved but should have been seen to well before our arrival . Luisa instead of seeing to her guest’s basic comfort she was sunbathing. Yes we were an inconvenience.
The lack of interest to help us establish our bearings and to point us in the direction of restaurants she could recommend.
The standard of the bedroom- exceptionally small lacking any character- the bed, although comfortable was far too large for the room. Clothes hanging facility was a small bar on the wall.
The bathroom although functional was very dated and worn. It needs a full upgrade to meet current standards at this price point.
The toilet seat was loose and failed to stay in the upward position.
The erratic nature of the Wi-Fi - more bandwidth required to cope with the busy periods.

The host (Victor) was the best host you could wish for. He explained everything to us and even gave us tipps for the rest of our trip. The guesthouse is in the middle of the city and you can reach the main square in 5 min. by foot. The rooms were super clean and it was super quiet. Breakfast was exceptionally good and also the garden with pool was perfect to get a welcomed refreshment after a tour through evora.
Literally nothing.

We enjoyed Victor’s hospitality, the pool, the comfortable bed, the AC, and the good water pressure. Everything was very clean and well presented. The room was well appointed with some teas and a small kettle, plus complimentary bottled water on arrival. Victor recommended us some restaurants for dinner and showed us a map of the highlights of Evora. Breakfast each morning was fresh and delicious.

Victor is an amazing host, warm and caring, and the hotel has a perfect location in the center of Evora, is very quiet and the swimming pool is huge for a 5 rooms hotel. The rooms opened to guest in the main house are worth the trip.
If you want to go to Evora, book this hotel.

We had a great stay here during our time in Évora. Our room was nice and cool with air conditioning (it was 40 degrees plus outside during our trip!) and the pool was amazing. Lovely ample breakfast and warm friendly hosts. Loved it!

The beautiful building and its decor was fantastic to see. The old books and vintage day to day items on display were great to see. Also Victor who was a superb host and helped us in every way from parking the car to teaching us Portuguese.. Obrigado Victor!
There is nothing to dislike about this hidden treasure.

What a delightful, quirky and characterful place in which to enjoy the wonderful Evora! It is situated a short stroll to the main attractions, yet offers a peaceful oasis with a large and welcoming pool set in a beautiful garden. It is part of the family home of a most genial host, Victor, who could not have been more helpful and attentive. Two original rooms are used for breakfast, furnished and decorated in early 20th century style and filled with family heirlooms and knick-knacks, almost a living museum. Another large library room and terrace overlooking the pool are available for guests. Our bedroom, accessed from the garden was clean and though small, perfectly functional. Evora is an extraordinary and lovely city filled with amazing sites and cultural attractions and worthy of at least 3 days. We recommend a wonderful, apparently modest but innovative and classy restaurant close-by called Hibrido and a more traditional, small family-run establishment, Bistro Barao. Best to reserve evening eating in season as the better places are often filled in advance.
It is perfectly charming as it is.

Fine historic house amidst Évora’s old narrow streets. Well-kept gardens - and a great pool. Victor, the owner-manager - could not have been more helpful and attentive.

This house is like a heavenly oasis in the middle of the city. Victor the host simply could not have been more helpful and friendly. Rooms are modern, spotless, comfortable and impeccable. Parking in the garage for 10 euro extra per day was perfect, easy and safe.
The garden and pool are even more beautiful in reality, the pictures don´t do it justice. Warmest recommendations.
While you could eat as much as you liked for breakfast, I have to say that I thought the selection was modest, not much more than juice, coffe/tea, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and toast with limited choices.
The hairdryer was very ineffective, you may want to bring your own.

This is the perfect place to stay in Evora. Victor was an amazing host who went out of his way to make our stay so memorable. Our room was beautiful & plenty of room to spread out.
The pool was fantastic for cooling off in the afternoons and breakfast was delicious.
We booked for two nights & regretted not staying an extra night.
Highly recommend this accommodation.
Nothing it was perfect.

Victor our host was so kind. One of us in our party was sick. He was truly a wonderful host, he went over and above what would be expected, offering advice and helping us during our 2 day stay. The room, property (garden), pool & breakfast were wonderful. Only wish we had booked a longer stay! So quiet and tranquil in the midst of being just a few minutes walk away from the main square. Would return again!
No complaints at all.

The location of the guest house was exactly what we were seeking - inside the walls of the former fortress of Evora. Victor, the host, grew up in the house (as did the previous six generations of his family). The house was spacious and impeccably maintained. Victor obviously has a lot of pride in his home. The room in which we stayed was clean, comfortable, and quiet. The pool was large & clean with perfect water temperature. Victor was a friendly, informative, and responsive host. Upon greeting us, he provided a concise and practical orientation to the town and the guest house. He mentioned that if we needed anything during the day, just pick up the bell on the living room table and ring it. Someone would appear to assist us. I indeed rang that bell a few times during our stay, and Victor appeared within a few minutes to answer our questions. A delicious breakfast buffet was set out every morning. Victor also made suggestions that enriched our 2-day stay in Evora - local restaurants - not only in Evora, but also in nearby towns we intended to visit. Since we intended to do some wine tasting, he identified three wine shops in town. He also advised us on a local town with hand-made ceramics. His advice was always accurate.
Nothing - this is an amazing guest house with a superb host who understands the needs of travelers seeking a unique, comfortable, and quiet place to stay.

The location is great— short walking distance to all sights. Our host, Victor, was very hospitable and responsive— he made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The breakfast has a good selection and is plentiful. The house is historic and has lots of interesting items to look at. We also found it very convenient to park in the guesthouse garage.
Nothing really. But the wifi is not reliable, it comes and goes, and the bathroom was small.
