Returned home replete with food, refreshment, and healthy rest in mind, body and spirit.

Ideal location in the Eden Valley. Remote yet with easy access to The Lakes and Fells + Solway Coast + Hadrians Wall by car, regular stopover point on major walking routes, Settle to Carlisle Railway, etc, etc. Warm welcome, wholesome food, locals Local, Cumbrian TLC.

Staff were friendly and happy to engage in conversation

Breakfast food wasn't great. I found the buffet options uninspired and my husband thought his vegetarian cooked breakfast was v dry

Comfortable and would certainly stay again if in area

Standard of evening meal was very good but unfortunately one ordered meal was forgotten. Staff were very apologetic and provided forgotten meal after a very short wait and cost of meal was deducted from final bill, which I consider to be the ultimate mark of respect for the customer

The Fox and Pheasant Inn never disappoints, always comfortable and great food and drink.

The Breakfast is fully inclusive with all you could wish for in a cooked breakfast. Likewise the evening meals were generous and delicious, particularly the Sunday lunch.

An ideal stopover between the South of England and Scotland.

The Fox & Pheasant is located in a charming village within easy reach of Carlisle. For railway enthusiasts, Armathwaite is a stop on the Settle/Carlisle railway and the village is situated on the river Eden. We stayed on a Sunday and although the pub was very busy, it wasn't a problem getting a table for dinner. There was a varied menu at reasonable prices.

The Fox & Pheasant is in a farming area and one needs to beware of farm traffic on the road.

Perfect stop over on our way South, comfortable, thoughtful facilities and kind staff. Armathwaite is really nice and would be a great base for a longer stay

Perfect weekend getaway location.

Lovely location. The room was quaint, clean and well maintained.

We normally drive home from Scotland in one day, but it was a lot better having an overnight stay.

The hotel is close to the river Eden with views of the fells. An ideal spot for customers who enjoy walking. All the locals seem to come on Friday evenings so the pub was very busy. The food was good at a reasonable price.

The wall lights were not bright enough to read in bed or at the desk.

Nice country pub

A nice country pub with dining. Breakfast was freshly made and other cerials on table (some out of date!). We were shown to our room.

Restaurant staff were a bit forgetful on ordering but pleasant. The food was a bit odd especially the lasagne that had just one sheet of pasta. One of my favourite meals so choose often. This was worst I'd ever had, really weird.

Comfy, home from home village pub.

Breakfast was brilliant, and plenty of it. The Fox and Pheasant is in a small village (Armathwaite) just north of Penrith, and has its own railway station, with trains to Carlisle, and Leeds (the train stops at Settle which is a nice journey) You are able to pay on the train, which is good. The rooms are lovely with rooms 2 and 3 looking out on to sheep in the field. The staff are very friendly as are the locals. The meals are cooked fresh . When it is cold there is a lovely open fire on the go.

The menu was not as extensive as on a previous visit, but a new menu I believe is due soon, all the food was lovely and good portions.

beautiful building. cosy comfortable and warm bedroom. snug inviting bar, excellent breakfast and helpful, lovely staff.

the electric shower was a bit disappointingly feeble after a day out walking and the bar menu is a bit lacking in imagination, but everything they do, they do well.
