Location is great, near the ski lift. The room is big and has own toilet. The family that manages the hotel is very friendly.
The wifi is not stable.

This was closer to the main centre of the village than we thought-easily walking distance.
The included breakfast was top-notch Japanese and varied from day to day and the dinner we had one night superb.
Lovely small onsen that I had to myself everytime. Bedding comfortable. Would stay again.

お部屋が広かったです。朝ご飯がお腹いっぱいになるくらい出ました!!

バスの時間が多くないので、しっかり調べることが大切です。

I liked the location, about a 5 minute walk from the main centre of the village. Closer by there’s also a few fantastic cafe’s and restaurants, a quiet onsen and even a close mountain chair lift for those skiing or snowboarding. The accomodation was very clean, the staff didn’t speak any English but were very kind. Loved the rice balls.
The mattress in the room was pretty thin. It’s to be expected when you’re staying on the floor on a mattress though. Luckily there was only two of us, so we could put the spare mattress in the room under our designated mattress to make it a bit softer.
I also didn’t realise the communal bathroom meant showering with everyone in a big wet room at the same time, but I learnt that was custom in Japan and just embraced it. I only mention it should someone else not realise this is the bathroom situation. Also, if you have a disability or get injured this is not the place to be. Lots of stairs! But don’t be deterred, it was a unique experience and I’m glad I stayed there. I would recommend to my more adventurous friends for a traditional Japanese experience. I don’t think I would suggest older people stay here.

The staff were very helpful, kind and willing to go the extra mile to make sure we were looked after.
They did not have transport to and from the ski field and the main food area in town. There is a public bus that we can access on certain times but it’s a bit of a walk.
4.5
The location was very convenient with the ski bus stop just next to the lodge (bus stop F meat shop Washino), and Nakao-no yu public onsen across the road. They also have their own bath in the basement if not keen to walk outside. The rooms have a sink and toilet so that was convenient. The dinner and breakfast were both feasts and delicious! If you take a bus, it is 8min walk from the Central bus station and 10mins walk to the village.
But the best thing about this place is the family running the lodge was super kind and hospitable. They included dinner and breakfast for free when they saw I was a solo traveller but had booked a 2-person rate through this site, and helped me arrange ta-Q-bin delivery of my skis when I discovered the night buses do not allow skis in the luggage hold.
Nothing, was a perfect weekend ski stay.

this is our third visit and as always Mrs Shinazawa was lovely and warm, the Onsen is always a treat and breakfast exceeds expectations each time.
the walk into town can be a bit long when it’s snowing

the distance to town, but it is a nice place to walk .

Our family of four had a wonderful stay at Shinazawa. The hosts were so helpful, the rooms were cosy (we had twin rooms) and the breakfast was traditional and delicious. The kids loved the onsen downstairs, as did my husband and I. And we chose to walk to the slopes each day - it only took 15 minutes and was quite a picturesque walk. Highly recommend this ryokan.
There is nothing that could be improved.

Nice onsens, perfect for a bath after skiing. The lodge is run by a very nice couple and the old lady is really warm and cooks great meals. Dinners are a real feast. Very pleasant stay, and the owners go out of their way to make you comfortable.
3.5
Clean, comfortable, and traditional-style.
Only shower was in the basement in the onsen room. Not a big deal as we used the onsen everyday, but others might find it bothersome. Onsen was also very small, so it'd be cramped with 3 or nore people.
3.0
Excellent breakfast and dinner(extra charges). The hosts are very accommodating. Nice mountain view feom my 3rd floor room.
No private bathroom. Everyone nreds to go down to public bath at basement and shower there (eventhough not taking a dip in the onsen). Room in the 3rd floor might be challenging if you have big and heavy luggages coz there's no lift. A bit of a walk from bus terminal and town center. Rate is a bit high for this property.

Staff are lovely
No atmosphere, no where to chill out after a day of skiing

Amazing place, absolutely exceeded expectations. The breakfasts were delicious and impossible to finish in quantity (great before a big ski day!) Matresses were comfortable and green tea available in the rooms. Staff exceptional.
