I loved the vibe and friendliness of the staff. They were extremely friendly and warm, and we had wonderful conversations with them. They were also very helpful in providing suggestions to improve our itinerary, which made our walk along the Nakasendo trail enjoyable and worry-free. Would recommend!

Nichts!

We love the location up in the hills it was so private and quiet it was just what we needed

Lovely decor and design. I felt like I was in my dream home. Also, there only 3 rooms and people tend to have dinner communally so it’s really cosy
This rly is just a minor feedback, it would be great to have more options for food - breakfast (toast and yoghurt) and dinner menu was a little limited (all curries). Overall still worth the stay tho!

Beautiful people and place.
Hard to find fault here

Loved staying here! The staff were so kind and warm. We were running late and would get to the nearby train station later than planned-- they were so accommodating and picked us up at the new arrival time. The farmhouse is located in the peaceful mountains. Definitely a nice retreat away from the city and an excellent home base if you are visiting the old post towns. It's such a cute farmhouse!
We visited during the winter, so it was quiet cold inside the rooms when we went to bed. There are plenty of heaters provided as well as these cozy coal blocks that keep your body warm at night in bed, but our heads got cold since you have to turn off the heaters before going to sleep (which is fine and makes sense).

After staying in hectic Kyoto we loved our three days at this authentic farm. We enjoyed several hikes in the surrounding area and made use of the shuttle service that was great and easy. After our hikes we had a cozy time near the fireplace, meeting other guests and eating tasty curry.

This place was incredible, one of our favourite accommodations on our Japan journey. So cozy and well set up. Beautiful views of the valley, friendly staff, tasty food and transfers to and from the train station.
Recommend doing their regional sake tasting.

De gezelligheid en persoonlijke warme inrichting van get hostel. Het is alsof je thuiskomt bij mensen, wat niet altijd vanzelfsorekend is in Japan.

The food was very good, both dinner and breakfast the next day. The view was phenomenal! What was exceptionally helpful was that the staff picked us up and took us back to the train station. This was so important because the hostel is quite a ways out in the country. The home is stunning, richly constructed of wood and filled with so many interesting books. I could have easily stayed there for a week. We had an issue with a lost passport and the staff bent over backwards to help us resolve it by making several phone calls, and providing suggestions for how to resolve the issue. Then, they drove me to the local police station so I could get it! I'm ever so grateful!!
We should have stayed longer! There was an unfriendly cat (and I am a lover and collector of cats) that shouldn't be allowed near guests. Just knowing this would have made a difference because he wasn't aggressive in the least.

Lovely property, lovely people. Dinner and plentiful drink options!
Quite out of the way. If you don’t have a car, you need to rely on the morning and evening free shuttle service from the train station (unless you get a taxi)

Sublime aesthetic and location with wonderful staff. One of our best stays in Japan.

The interior is very stylish yet keeping the traditional details of the beautiful 200year old house! Very spacious and relaxed ambience.
The staffs are very welcoming! We were given a tour and history of the house and location. Also got recommendations of what to eat nearby.
There's a bath on site, although smallish, but made out of hinoki wood! The common area is a library full of cool books, and also a kitchen to make meals if needed.
Just one little thing, the bugs!! Hahaha, but U are surrounded by nature so I guess that's part of the deal. Nothing in our bedroom, but there was 1 or 2 bugs in the common area, and it's spacious so you can definitely hide from them 😂

House was on a hill, very clean and cozy, really felt like a home! Air so fresh, view from deck was amazing, we watched sunset and gazed at stars! Dinner at 1000yen was simple yet delicious, pre-cooked by a chef elsewhere and heated up before dinner. Breakfast extra 600yen, simple but fresh and healthy. Staff was very friendly and chatted a lot with us, learnt many things. We had sake tasting after dinner, 5 types for only 500yen, very reasonable. There were 3 rooms downstairs, my room was the biggest, could fit up to 5 pax. Sipping free tea/coffee by the furnace, reading or just chilling was a lovely experience! There is a small library of books, lots of Manga. Owner and his family of three stayed upstairs, very nice friendly people. One of the best homestays I ever had!
House is 15min drive from station, need owner to fetch us to and fro, it's free at limited timings, or else pay extra for other timings.

The sheer age of this place and the care that has gone into its renovation is stunning. If you want to feel like you're getting a slice of history, and enjoy the multitude of homemade and local food, drink and facilities, this is the perfect place to stay.
The roof throughout large portions of the house is quite low, I did bump my head a few times when I forgot and tried to straighten up. I felt like Gandalf in a Hobbit house.
Anyone above 5'10" will need to be wary.

So much good has been said of the over 200 year old wooden house, friendly and english speaking staff and owners. The story of Yui An is amazing, very good work on saving the house. Pls keep it up.

The place is unique and we felt at home while being in the middle of the mountain in Japan. The traditional house, the nature, the homemade curry and cozy environment was incredible. We were travelling with a baby and the set up was just perfect with a plus of a play area. Facilities were on point and well decorated and room very comfortable. The staff was beyond helpful and nice. We loved it and we hope to come back soon!
Everything was perfect! Nothing to say here.

I really enjoy the people, house and environment. The beds were extremely comfortable, people are welcoming and accommodating and the setting is unparalleled. We had a wonderful stay and vow to return soon. thank you all very much.

Absolutely beautiful settings and the room was huge. Dinner and breakfast were nice and filling. Hosts are lovely and the price is a bargain. The location is a bit far from the station but they run a shuttle service which made it super convenient

Really nice space, all the little nooks and crannies to explore, many books to flip through with many seating spaces felt very organic and extremely charming.
A very relaxing and calming place.

The vibe of the place is amazing. The hosts were hospitable and kind to all guests.
Slight hiccup that the heater broke down in the morning but it didn't affect much
4.7
It’s a 200 year old farmhouse, beautifully renovated to keep the charm of the original building.

Wonderful food, sake tasting, umeshu. There's a cute little library and very kind staff who seemed to speak decent english. The view from the balcony is beautiful, and there is a cat who lives on the premises.
4.7
The hosts were wonderful - very friendly and welcoming. The dinner they offered was excellent and good value for money. We appreciated the shuttle service as the location is a bit remote. Excellent view of the valley from the balcony in the morning.
For people with cat allergies, they may have a challenge as the hosts have a cat.

Magical, peaceful, unique. Wish I could have stayed longer! Welcoming and friendly staff. Delicious food. Fab soak in the bath tub after a long hike. Reliable shuttle from Nagiso station. Picturesque setting. Beautifully renovated former barn with so much character.

This is a very stylish place with attention to detail and superb hospitality. This 200 year old Japanese farmhouse had been beautifully renovated and incorporates some lovely mid century modern furniture. Fabulous views over the valley and mountains. The owners and staff are wonderful. The food was excellent - we had curry chicken for dinner which was delicious; and the breakfast was great … homemade yoghurt, eggs from chickens on the property and fresh fruit. Great value for money. Highly recommend.
Nothing - it was a real highlight for us.

This is one of the best experiences I ever had in a guest house, the owners are very helpful and tend to your every need.
The food they offer is also cooked locally and is delicious.
The facility itself has a charming feeling and is very cozy and clean, also there is an amazing view
The location is a bit far from the station but there is a free shuttle service so it’s fine.
Overall really recommended for people looking to sleep Kiso Valley

Very nice hostel in a beautifully traditional house. The lounge area is very cosy. The host was really helpful ( we can ask for a shuttle service from between Nagiso station and the hostel, or luggage delivery) and everyone was welcoming. I recommend for everyone who travel in the area.

Everything about this property, including staff, location, meals, sleeping, shared spaces, was excellent. This is a cross between a ryokan, a home stay, and a hostel.
The house is warmly and tastefully decorated consistent with old and new stylings. The house has been beautifully restored with much history and character, yet has amenities that enable diverse travellers to travel in their own style. There is a bar, a kitchen for travellers who want to cook for themselves, and capacity to pre-book a purchased dinner or breakfast.
There are multiple lounge areas and a warm stove to add to the atmosphere. There are private rooms and dormitory options.
We sampled 5 different types of sake on a sample platter. We purchased some homemade beeswax cloth in the Japanese dye style. Our vegetarian requirements were met when we purchased our dinner.
The pick up and drop off service at set times helped us get to the location from the train station.
Our bedding was comfortable and the lovely Erica (staff) set up bed warmers to put in the bed which lasted all night.
we wish we knew about this place earlier so we could have planned to stay longer. you could easily stay here, travel down to Magome for example, walk to Nagiso via Tsumago to sleep a second night. the countryside around the house warrants a walk too.
Nothing can be complained about.
