About this house rental
Two bedroom, cozy, comfortable craftsman
-A vegetarian/vegan home for years (please do not bring meat into the house for either cooking or storage. Eat whatever you like when out and about!). Eggs, dairy and bee products are fine, although you may enjoy trying coconut cream, nut or goat milks and cheeses as they are reputed to be generally better for digestibility..
- Staying in Berkeley is arguably nicer that staying in San Francisco when visiting the SF Bay Area. In the East Bay, the temperature is warmer by about ten degrees F than nearby San Francisco. "The coldest winter I ever spent was Summer in San Francisco." Mark Twain. The inversion layer causes fog which can be chilly, (especially in the summer). Berkeley is warmer, however many summer mornings have a fog that normally burns off by noon.
-Close to fabulous Fourth Street shops and restaurants, Bette's Diner, Peet's and the Apple Store in Berkeley's Oceanview neighborhood. One of the older neighborhoods of Berkeley, full of charming homes and long time residents.
-Easy access to buses (UC Berkeley and SF downtown), easy freeway access and a 99% walk-ability rating. A 10-15 minute walk (.9 mile) to North Berkeley BART (and SF morning carpool)
-We accept most pets
-Private Entry with mud porch and rear exit door to the yard
- Visiting Professor families are welcome, as are students for semester stays. Damage and cleaning deposits may vary on longer term stays. No stays over two weeks in summer months, thanks! Write to me and explain your situation and let’s see if this is a fit.
-Large living-room with a working fireplace, couch, and a couch that converts into a single bed.
-There is a playable upright piano
-Two bedrooms, furnished with double beds, desks etc. The bedrooms have plenty of light.
-Tiled bathroom- with separate shower and bathtub
-Large eat-in kitchen with gas stove, refrigerator, spacious sink, plenty of cabinets, booth benches, oak table, dishwasher, granite counter tops. Vegetarian cook books, toaster and includes pots pans, mixing bowls, juicer on request, crock pot, dishes etc.
-A front loading washing machine on site. There are a few folding racks to hang laundry to dry as well as a very small drier that fits less than half of a full load from the washer. Large appliances are to be used between 7PM and noon, to work with the solar array and utilities pricing systems.
-Street parking, no permits are required in this neighborhood. There is street cleaning - two days in the month, the first Monday and Tuesday each month.
- Owner lives on the property, in a private addition.
-Shared small sunny yard (garden- a work in progress)- do not consider the yard, as it is under development.
-No smoking in the home or on the property
-I just raised the pet fee as I had an allergic guest and had to pay $250 for deep cleaning to remove cat dander.

I absolutely loved staying in this home that has every single amenity plus more. I stayed with my college-aged twin daughters and young son and we were all perfectly comfortable. Lisa knew it was my birthday weekend and I was met with flowers and gifts on the dining table. The location is perfect, we loved walking around the neighborhood and going to coffee and shopping just a few blocks away. Getting to SF is a breeze. So much better than staying in a sterile hotel. We can't wait to stay again.

Walking distance to shops on Fourth Street. San Pablo Ave, University Ave . . . coffee, restaurants, shops, REI, etc. The house was warm and cozy with a great kitchen to cook in and Lisa was the best property owner ever. She did so much to make us welcome and comfortable!! And it was quiet at night. No traffic noise!!

Overall very nice host who truly made the effort to make me feel comfortable and welcome. Unfortunately I felt like I was sleeping in her bed in her house and it was a bit awkward.

Such a wonderful "Berkeley" experience. Came to see music such a positive vibe. The host was wonderful, attentive and helped make our experience memorable.

Our host Lisa was very welcoming, even offering to give us rides to the BART station upon our arrival and departure! Home was charming older bungalow with colorful decor and artwork, just as photos depict. Host was also helpful in offering restaurant recommendations in the neighborhood. Don’t miss the Oceanview Diner and bakery/deli next door! Neighborhood was quiet at night except for a bit of a party nearby on Saturday. But, we rested well. Master bedroom bed was very comfy. Overall, a great stay and good location for visiting Berkeley and San Francisco. FYI, It’s about 1:15 to 1:30 by BART and muni bus to get to Golden Gate Park. Cheers!

Lisa is a kind and accommodating host! We arrived to fresh picked flowers and fruit. Her charming house has a definite Berkeley vibe, from the Buddha by the front door to the Dr Bronners in the bathroom, and I love it. We used to live in Berkeley and brought our kids back for the first visit in 5 years, and staying at Lisa’s felt like we were living in Berkeley again. Our kids are 7 and 9 and the place was perfect for the 4 of us. We enjoyed walking to Peet’s on 4th street for a morning pastry and coffee, and playing in the neighborhood park just 1.5 blocks away. Having parking and laundry on site was great. I’d definitely recommend Lisa’s place, if you don’t mind keeping a vegetarian kitchen while you’re there—we ate out all the time (too many great restaurants in the Bay Area to cook!) so it wasn’t a problem at all for us omnivores.

The house is a warm mix of color and texture. Great old bungalow style mixed with unique furniture pieces and fabrics. We really enjoyed the location -- 4th and U was right around the corner, and getting up to the university dorms to get our son situated was easy. Lisa, the homeowner, made sure we were comfortable. She really knows the neighborhood and shared great suggestions about the area, restaurants, places to go.

Super welcoming and caring host! Excellent home!
This spot was perfect for our little getaway to San Francisco. The home is quite spacious and geared towards what it would feel like if you were staying at a friend's house. She has all the fixings you would expect to find in a home and then some like children's books and toys, a beautiful piano (which we had great fun with) and plenty of cool art and decorations. We really felt like we were staying with family because Lisa was just a fantastic host. If you're looking for a corporate vibe or expecting to stay in a hotel then this is not for you. But if you're looking for an ideally situated spot to visit Oakland/Berkeley/SF with the comforts of a big house then this is the place for you. We stayed with an infant and a toddler and they loved the books and toys and loved the double bed for story time. Thank you Lisa, we hope to see you again! -Gloria, Xochitl, Tesi and Booji

Perfect for our family
We stayed here with our three children and Lisa made us feel right at home. The space was great for us with the sleeping arrangements (bed in master was incredibly comfortable)!, coffee setup, fresh fruit provided by Lisa, and a parking spot set aside for our convenience. The home is old and “lived in”; if you’re looking for new and modern this isn’t it. Some usable outdoor area would be a bonus (even to sit with coffee or to eat) but there is an amazing playground for kids just a block away. Finally, if you prefer to check into a place and be on your own, this may not be a good fit as Lisa (who’s lovely) likes to chat. All in all, a great and reasonably priced find where I’d stay again.

Very charming, comfortable and quiet
Our family had a very pleasant stay. The home is comfortable and clean, and neighborhood quiet. Convenient location w nearby shopping/restaurants & public transportation. Lisa is very helpful and prompt to answer questions, or provide suggestions. We all agreed that we’d stay again.

Lisa's home was in a perfect location for us. I was in Berkeley with work and the home was walking distance to the office. There are shops/restaurants/parks all within a few minutes walk and felt like a very safe neighbourhood.
Lisa was amazing and kind, she took a lot of care in getting us settled into the home for our 1 week stay.
There are definitely some quirks and this was not the typical rental that we have previously stayed at, but it was a good fit for our family.
The living room was a decent size, the tv was smaller but didn't bother our kids at all - there were lots of books, some toys and plenty of instruments to keep them busy during the time we were home. The kitchen was a good size and had all of the amenities that we needed, a few quirks but nothing that bothered us.
You can access the second bedroom from either the living room or the kitchen, the main bedroom from the kitchen. The kitchen also leads to the laundry room. The main bedroom was a good size and the bathroom is attached, which is also accessible from the laundry room. Bathroom also has some quirks, which Lisa walked us through upon arrival.
Overall, we would definitely stay here again, although I expect this home is not for everyone.

Excellent Stay in Berkeley
We drove to Berkeley to help our son move. Lisa was very helpful with parking our truck. Her house was a great place to put our feet up and relax after very busy days. We greatly appreciated Lisa's truly local community connection and flair. We will definitely book again in the future

Sanctuary
After a hellish week in an Airbnb house that was not at all as described in the listing, we found sanctuary in Lisa’s Berkeley home.
My wife, our twenty-one year old daughter, and our small dog were evacuated from our home in the Santa Cruz Mountains during the CZU lighting complex wildfires. Adding to the stress was a pre-scheduled surgery for our daughter, which she underwent during the previous Airbnb week. We needed a place to lick our wounds and, temporarily, call home. Lisa’s Berkeley house was just that.
Lisa’s home was well-furnished, comfortable, and stocked with more amenities than we could possibly use. She kept in contact with us, checking to see what we needed, offering helpful advice about keeping the temperature regulated, parking in the neighborhood, dining suggestions, etc. She seemed to genuinely care about us and our well-being, and for that we are very grateful. She even surprised us with thoughtful gifts such as remedies to support our daughter’s healing, and fresh flowers and fresh herbs for cooking. Knowing we were exhausted and stressed, she kept us in mind when doing her own shopping, checking in about whether she could pick us up anything while she was out. So much thoughtful consideration and loving care was above and beyond what we’d ever expected and was so deeply welcomed and appreciated.
We highly recommend Lisa and her Berkeley home, and we hope to be back for another visit in a less stressful time!

We also had privacy and felt comfortable at all times. Many thanks for a great stay!

Groovy Berkeley Bungalow House
We had a great experience in this house, and Lisa was very welcoming and accommodating. The house is in a nice little neighbourhood on a relatively quiet street, and yet was perfectly convenient to where we wanted to be and get to (up to the Uni, or access to the motorway into SF). Lisa saved us our own little parking spot each night just in front, which saved hassles of finding street parking. The house is full of fun trinkets and idiosyncrasies, which were a pleasure to behold, and we loved the huge number of mirrors and decorations. Each room is a different colour. We were a party of 5 adults, and fit in okay by using the front room sofa as a spare bed. Lisa is funny and sometimes went off on long tangents in her texts and emails, but I really appreciated her caring nature and how she welcomed us. I almost forgot to mention the stand-up piano, which was played often, and the doves that were nesting above the kitchen window during our stay. We respect Lisa's desire for a vegan home, and that was no problem for us. I would definitely stay here again (and will likely do so if I get back to the Bay Area anytime soon). Really enjoyed the experience.

charming apartment
we enjoyed staying here. the colors are wonderful and it has everything that you need. We had 6 people for part of the time and it worked out very well because each of the possible sleeping areas can be closed off for privacy. We liked the neighborhood and walked around a lot.

Not what it's portrayed as
The pictures look inviting inside the home and for the most part it is but the location definitely not so much. Family of five with three teenagers did not feel comfortable going for a walk after dark. Parking was an adventure and you had better be able to parallel park in a very tight space. Unfortunately, the whistle of the Amtrak train 4 blocks away was enough to keep one awake but we are not used to such noise either.
The final cost/night NOT worth the cost even for Berkley, CA. The cleaning fee is not being used for what it's meant for. Superficially it is okay but the cobwebs throughout the house were a turn off as well as the washing machine, which has mildew build up on the rubber seal. In addition, the door also didn't close without "lifting". The dryer was amenable for 2-3 shirts at most, which was a bummer as we had planned on washing the basics coming from Yosemite. Owner’s suggestion was to "hang" everything, which we did but some items still weren’t dry after 48 hours. The dishwasher also needs to be replaced as only one setting works and the owner has to tell you which one as none of the settings light up. Owner was very friendly and helpful but the 20 minute “tour” of the house upon arrival was a bit much as well as her arrival the first morning of our stay with "flowers" where she pretty much forced her way into the house after my husband said he'd take them. We've done numerous VRBOs on past vacations throughout the US and never felt so smothered, which may be great for some but not so much for us.

Lisa sets a very warm & welcoming tone, from your first contact with her!
My husband and I were fortunate to rent Lisa's Berkeley Craftsman home for 4 days recently. From my very first contact with Lisa, via email, I knew we would enjoy staying in her property. Lisa is a very warm and kind person. In advance of our stay, I asked if she might be able to place a fan in each bedroom. Lisa set out to do just that. Her home is very comfortable, lovely in its furnishings, and in a wonderful location; very walk-able to a lot of interesting ( and delicious!) retail. The kitchen is fully equipped and ample in space,
as is the bathroom. Both beds are very comfortable, and the rooms are a nice size, with plenty of space to place your luggage etc. Everything was very clean and fresh. Lisa is available but not intrusive, should guests need any tips during their stay. Her home is exactly as pictured in her listing, which we found to not always be the case with some on-line rental properties. It would be our good fortune to stay at Lisa's Bungalow again.
