I can't emphasize enough how exceptional our stay was. I was simply searching for a Ryokan, and Yokikan had good ratings, but everything far exceeded my expectations. The eight-dish dinner (included in the fare!) and breakfast, the authentic and time-worn interior that beautifully tells its history through its wear and tear, and the impeccable maintenance stood out. The hilltop open-air Onsen and the incredibly welcoming staff were also highlights. My wife and I loved every detail.
My wife joked that if she were a prisoner and suddenly treated this way, it must mean she'd be executed the next day.
From the beginning of our stay, we were warmly greeted by the staff. The general manager took the time to explain everything to us in great detail in fluent English. The meals felt hearty and homely. Enjoying the hot spring bath, wearing Yukata, and strolling around the town were all delightful. We even had the opportunity to participate in a local summer festival, which fulfilled a childhood dream of mine. It felt like a scene from an anime. What I truly appreciated was that the festival was genuinely for locals. Everyone came out to join the occasion, making it feel authentic rather than a tourist trap.
When we returned to Tokyo, we were overwhelmed with nostalgia, as if we had awoken from an ethereal sweat dream.

The manager and his wife was really nice to us. Explained the use of facilities very well, offered us a lot of advice regarding sightseeing and was very hospitable.

The size of the room. The onsen. The breakfast

We loved having a tatami sleeping and dining area in the family room. The staff were so nice to us, helping us find our way around town. There are beautiful parks and shrines near by. The mountain top onsen is beautiful, especially at sunrise and sunset. We look forward to returning one day.

I’ll be recommending the town of Ito and Yokikan to anyone who visits Japan. It is the small and charming town you want to visit to experience true Japanese hospitality, omotenashi.
This is a 5th generation, family-owned ryokan and it showed with such amazing service. Some highlights are when you arrive, the owner (who speaks excellent english, which is quite rare at ryokans) will offer you a map and many recommendations for restaurants, activities, and even local conbinis. We took those recommendations and this was easily our most memorable part of the trip. Then the lovely and nice staff will show you around to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the baths or amenities. I felt very charmed and safe with this staff, it just warms your heart.
There are clear hours and instructions to ensure that both genders get to experience all 3 baths. Definitely take the time to try all three, they each have a different relaxing environment! Something that took me back was that the staff cleaned the wheels of my luggage and I had genuinely never seen that before. My partner is allergic to seafood and they were the only ryokan who could make an accommodation, which we’re thankful for and could eat a delicious breakfast in our room, at ease. On top of all that, the owner was generous and gave us a car ride back to the Ito eki when we checked out.
The baths were clean and just the right soothing temperature, the ofuton gave us some of the best sleep we had on this trip, and the open-air bath at the top is as memorable as it gets. We truly relaxed for two whole nights and cherish our stay at Yokikan. We can’t wait to come back!

The owner and the staff are very kind and helpful! Not only gave us tips on travelling around but also kindly drove us to the station. The two hot springs are superb!

Booked a cheap room last minute, mainly to enjoy the onsen.
It was one of the nicest rotenburo (open air volcanic bath) I've seen.
There are specific women-only times.
The room was a bit cold. That's to be expected in those traditional inns. There's a heater, but it's a bit noisy (also as usual). Just be prepared, during cold nights, have a sweater and socks to sleep in if you don't want the noise of the heater disturbing you!

the staffs welcomed us warmly.
we like their onsen (especially the open air bath) even if it's raining.
the foods were tasty and was given on-time.
it's hard to find if you are first time travelers because the directions from google map is inaccurate.

That's the 4th time I've been there and, as usual, the staff are super nice and they help as much as the can, breakfast excellent, onsen perfect with a great view on the roof❤️
