The staff is super friendly and helpful.
We had an amazing time they made us feel like home.
Really nice breakfast and service.
Also the little library was nice.

We loved it here! It was so comfortable and lovely to stay in when you've walked a ton already. They were also super accommodating. They held our bags for us after checking out and we wanted to spend more time in the city but were leaving later that evening. It was the nicest stay.
No complaints.
4.5
It has a wonderful garden. Teas, coffee, bananas are all free. The breakfast is excellent, they have a great breakfast for that price.
It's a good place for rest and relax

The staff was really nice!
Nice common area to relax and beautiful garden.
Good breakfast, great price per value.
Great laundry.
They offered us another room when we were unhappy with the loud sound in our room (unfortunately there were no other rooms with private bathroom aviable, so we didn't change).
We felt very uncomfortable in our room.
First, the bed was really dirty, the mattress, pillows and the bathroom were full of black hairs (3-5cm long), and I mean really full. Also the hotel had a problem with the sink, it smelled so disgusting out of the bathrooms especially at the evening and night, never smelled something like this before. Our shower seemed not very safe. There is electricity in the shower head to heat the water (not working very well), but the water flows over an open electric cable. I'm not an electrician, but water + electricity seems life dangerous for me (see on the photo).
We had a room with balcony with beautiful view, but it was sooo loud because of motorbikes and cars. To be fair, the hotel messaged me this after booking, but I thought traffic jam from a small street could not be so loud. Failed - because of the walls in the small street every car and motorbike sounds 10 times louder than standing directly on the street.
The location of the hotel feels not so secure. Lot of homeless people bagged for money, at night there are people standing directly in front of the hotel, making strange sounds...

nice garden
really nice and helpful staff!
the linens on the bed weren’t clean and it seemed like they didn’t chance the pillow cases, the shower wasn’t very good too
4.5
Very clean, great location, tasty breakfast (eggs, cereal, yoghurt, tea/coffee), helpful staff who helped us get a taxi to get to the airport early in the morning. Spacious building, common areas were not crowded.
The public bathroom has open space on the top so even from your room, you can hear when it is being used.

My partner and I have stayed at the Colonial House Inn twice while visiting Quito. The value simply cannot be beat. The rooms are so comfy, the staff stayed up until 1am to check us in after our bus arrived late and they offer laundry/ tours/ breakfast- anything you could want. This is the only place we’d ever want to stay in Quito.
The bathroom is very basic, but it had everything we needed.

The breakfast was good and the room was nice.
We were first given a wrong room without a bathroom. We asked about this and we were changed to another room, which had a ”private” bathroom that was outside of the room. Although there was a sign saying private, it was clearly used by other guests.

- Walking distance to the old town
- Short walk to the local bakery and market
- Passport sized lockers available behind reception (although nothing laptop sized available)
- The whole place was smelly, especially the bathrooms.
- Doors don't lock.
- Showers were luke warm at best.
- Everything in the kitchen was dirty. You would wash up after breakfast and by dinner time, the items were dirty again (despite being put away).
- Booked a dorm more than 2 weeks in advance. On arrival was told dorms were full and I was put in the "spare room". This was me (solo female traveller) sharing a twin room with a solo male traveller. I found this really odd especially when the dorms were not full and there was at least one other solo female traveller staying the same dates as me, and I would have much preferred sharing such a small room with a female rather than a male.
- Doorbell rings all the time.
- Staff often not at the desk and unhelpful.

The garden area is lovely, plenty of hammocks to lay about in. The staff are very helpful, and assisted us with everything we needed.
Not much soundproofing

Friendly staff, lots of stuff to do (book room, pool table, table football), cool artwork and decor.
Room was a really good size, and mostly clean (exception being there were hairs in the bed) and comfortable. The bed (despite hairs) was really comfortable.
Good common areas: pool table in main common area, hammocks in the garden, outdoor gym (we didn't use this), and a lounge on top floor with big TV and Netflix (although we didn't use this due to other guests using it).
Decent WiFi.
Free drinking water, coffee, and tea. Promise of free bananas (although the one morning we wanted to take some bananas there were none).
Breakfast was brilliant - this is $3 extra per breakfast per person but totally worth it.
Safety deposit boxes available at front desk.
Location is close to historical centre, which is good, but we didn't feel particularly safe or comfortable in the area around the hostel, it seems to be on the edge of a good area and bad area (see more under what we didn't like).
Location : we didn't feel particularly safe or comfortable in the area around the hostel, it seems to be on the edge of a good area and bad area. We did not feel comfortable walking to/from the hostel, and certainly not at night. On our first day we saw a drunk/drugged man waving a big stick and a big knife at another drunk/drugged man only a couple of blocks from the hostel and this tarnished our view of the area, and set a tone of uneasyness for the duration of our stay. We also noticed that every shop in the immediate surrounding area had bars on the doors/windows and wouldn't let people in (you had to stand at the door and call to the shop owner to hand you what you want) which shows how unsafe shop owners feel...
Room : there were hairs in the bed. Showers were mostly cold. There are signs explaining that the showers are heated by electric pumps and there are instructions on how to use the showers, but we followed these and either got a dribble of really hot water, or a lot of cold water - not great.

Lovely hostel with good facilities and great value for money right in the old town of Quito
Simple private room but good value for money
4.5
Great place ! Friendly staff, nice rooms, small garden
Showers a bit cold...

Nice common areas and courtyard. Closely located to the historic district. They let me stay in the hostel while I waited for my room to be available.
Contrary to what I was told, there were no free bananas:( My room was different than what I booked, but it was fine.
4.5
Great breakfast! Nice garden.
the staff could not really help with recommendations and how to get organized in the city.
4.5
Staff was excellent and friendly, especially Jefferson
There was no water in the room when we arrived at night.
4.5
Helpful staff, nice breakfast option and social space, good value for money And location
Cold, and shower very finicky to try and get any heat
4.5
Room was spacious and quiet. Free coffee and tea always available (it is quite cold in Quito, so the hot tea was a big bonus). Close to historical center, restaurants and shops.
Hot water was very dodgy (electric shower head) and it wasn't really working most of the time
4.5
breakfast is amazing for just $3!!
I requested an airport pickup for 1am which they confirmed and no driver showed up. I had to negotiate a taxi that didn’t know where the hostel was. frustrating.
4.5
It was a perfect get out of the stress in the city. Nice persons.
4.5
Nice big garden, great breakfast included, spacious room, good WiFi.
A bit old dated. No free water refill.

The family that runs the place is kind and understanding. I was planning on doing a few different activities in Ecuador so I was in and out a few different times to Quito. There was no issue with storing a bag there or being flexible with dates. The atmosphere is great with great staff as well. The garden area is such a great refuge to return back to after exploring the busy city. I’m grateful for the time I spent there and I will not stay anywhere else next time I am in Quito. Thank you.

The price and location can't be beat - a solid budget option. Most of the staff were welcoming and very helpful.
There was one staff member that wasn't very kind or helpful. The staff were often not at the desk and unavailable for help.
4.5
comfortable, quiet at night, good breakfast available, nice place
4.5
Totally suggested!
The volunteers were kind, and the place felt extremely cozy. Good location, near by most of the old town touristic places; good recommendations around Ecuador but also a good place to stay for extreeemely long if you actually just want to chill.
I loved it! I’d definitely come back!
I didn’t have more days in my schedule for Quito.
