Nice place, price good, older, but clean, toilet/shower good, bed too soft for me but clean, air temperature was adjustable to comfort, refrigerator clean/nice, didn’t use stove, had a Keurig (brought our own 😊 too), Internet perfect, was a bit confusing as it was attached to a bigger place and we were confused which one was ours, floor had 2 small step downs that you had to be careful not to trip, close to restaurants, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Jewel Cave, Custer State Park, Badlands - very convenient. Deer at night, clean forest smell.

As advertised in the listing. Clean, quiet, close to town. Rustic decor. Bed is very soft…not bad, I just prefer a firm mattress. I would stay again.

I loved the quiet, safe area. The kitchen was great, allowing us to prepare most of our meals. The bed was very comfortable. We walked on the nearby trail which was nice. The dining table chairs need to be upgraded and it would have been nice to have cable TV, but this is certainly not a big deal.

Great location! Near Wind Caves NP, Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore and Black Hills. Quiet place to stay and near all the dining options in Custer.

Quiet, Clean, Spacious, Great Value.

This unit has only one bed! It advertises a couch that makes up into a bed, but that is not true. The living room couch is just a couch, not a bed!. Also the living room floor is very sticky around the fireplace. There is no protection on the floor, some sparks or ashes have melted some spots in the vinyl floor. I will not return!

Great place to stay! Very comfortable and clean rustic little cabin with a great view in the back yard. Awesome location so close to Custer and neighborhood felt very safe. Bed was super comfy. Will be staying here again in the future:)

We had a wonderful time coming back to this little place each day! Peaceful and quiet, but convenient location.

Such a cozy little place away from home. Beautiful backyard view every morning while having your coffee. Quiet setting. And got to see and feed deer on the property. Comfortable bed and pillows. And to top it off, the property manager was so wonderful to communicate with. Loved staying here!

This was my first Sturgis Rally, and I was very impressed with my stay here. Jeanne communicated with me fast and promptly. While my rally experience was not good, my overall stay was amazing. The bed is super soft. Everything you will need is there for you. Thank you 😊

Nice one bedroom. Nothing fancy, but a decent place with a great backyard view. Could use a new mattress, but after hiking all day it did the job.

Great rental. Had everything that we needed. Enjoyed feeding the deer every night. Had up to 9 deer one night.
Within 15 minutes of Custer State Park. Close to other attractions.

Beautiful location, the house is sparsely furnished with cheap furniture and fixtures. It worked as a place to sleep after a busy day. There was absolutely no comfort, so we spent a very limited amount of time there…sleep and shower

We enjoyed our stay. Beautiful scenery right out the back door. Fun having the Mickelson trail right out back. We enjoyed seeing the deer. The bed was very comfortable. The only thing is no air conditioning, which was really only needed one of our days. House is rustic, but comfortable.

My friend and I met Dan right away and he was very nice. The apartment has a lot of potential. It's a cozy spot for any vacationers. There is another review that lists a few drawbacks that we agree with, especially the bathroom door that is too long to glide smoothly on the rail, but it was a nice place to lay our head for our stay. There was some disappointment that there was a TV but no programming. Vacation is nice to get away and unplug, but my friend is not a reader and I felt like I had to entertain her as we had nothing to do otherwise in our down time. The windows didn't have coverings/curtains, which bothered my security-minded friend, who slept on the futon. I have various food allergies, so cooked in the kitchen and it was nicely equipped with the essentials. However, there were some towels left behind that in these times I didn't care for. The view out the backdoor was beautiful and overall the spot was peaceful. Dan strikes me as a man who will be prompt in meeting any needs to make your stay comfortable and takes pride in his property.

Dan was friendly and helpful in getting us settled in and acquainted with the area. He suggested a burger place which ended up being a culinary highlight of our trip! The house is actually split into two units which we were not aware of (I didn’t see anything in the listing indicating that it was a shared space). The remodel is cute but definitely lower-end, meaning it lacks some basic ideal things like solid bedroom and bathroom doors. The deadbolts didn’t lock on at least one entry door (not aligned right), and the bedroom has a shared laundry access connecting the two apartments which had a broken lock—Dan was quick to fix it though, which was super. The space is small and cozy, but the bed is terribly uncomfortable and the futon was just as stiff. Not a place to relax comfortably. The rocker glider would have been nice, but I’d suggest newer cushions as it had a strong smell like it came from an old house. We slept horribly but enjoyed the backyard view of the Black Hills and walking the Mickelson Trail. Another big drawback was we could hear the neighboring unit, a big disappointment, but thankfully those guests were gone the day after we arrived for our 3 night stay. I would’ve been very annoyed with loud noise from the shared unit. So be advised, the pics show a whole house, but you get a roughly remodeled shared apartment with probably no insulation in the walls, leaving risk for a noisy and uncomfortable stay. The camping chairs left for our use were falling apart, so that was annoying. However, the quiet neighborhood, gorgeous property views, and firepit access with supplied paper and wood were superb and totally worth the sleep deprivation and neighbor noise for one night. They even had coffee and filtered water on hand, a nice touch. And again, Dan was great and we enjoyed meeting him and appreciated his prompt handling of the lock issue. I’d recommend it, if you’re not a light sleeper! Even if you are, it was totally worth 3 nights of awful sleep for a nice place to land at the end of the day of exploring the gorgeous town of Custer and the Black Hills!

Beauty on a dead end road
Cute little place attached to the owners home. On several acres bordering National Forest land with a stream and the Mickelson Trail running through it. Quiet. Natural beauty with deer and other wildlife in the yard and neighborhood.

Weekend Getaway in Custer
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Jeanne & Dan’s place! It was a great location for our activities, nicely situated with access to the Mickelson Trail and just a short drive from the downtown. Communication from Jeanne before our trip was excellent, and Dan came out to greet us when we arrived. The property was quite clean and had some unique, fun elements. After some long days of riding our bicycles in the Hills, we ended the day relaxing to a movie from their dvd collection. Thank you Jeanne & Dan!

Great little spot nestled in the Hills
This was the perfect place for our anniversary vacation. Less than a mile from Custer if we needed anything, but remote enough where we couldn’t hear any roads or even the close neighbors. The section of Mickelson Trail that runs along the back of the property is a gorgeous walk with mountains, ponds and small wildlife to see. If you aren’t used to well water there is that to contend with (we bought a case of bottled water in town and it got us through the week) but overall a great place to stay.

Great!
It was just what we needed. A quiet getaway from tv, internet and phone.
