At Fox Chase house, you can enjoy modern amenities in a historical setting. Built on land that was once part of Chief Justice John Marshall's Estate of Oak Hill, today, the house sits in the heart of Middleburg Wine Country. When you are ready to do some sightseeing, you will find that the house is conveniently located to the following towns:
- Marshall: Five minutes
- The Plains: Ten minutes
- Upperville: 12 minutes
- Paris: 12 minutes
- Middleburg: 13 minutes
Fine dining abounds. Some of the best local choices include:
1. Field and Main in Marshall (five minutes)
2. The Rail Stop in The Plains (ten minutes)
3. The Ashby Inn in Paris (12 minutes)
4. The Hunter's Head in Upperville (12 minutes)
5. The Red Fox Inn in Middleburg (13 minutes)
Some of the most popular nearby wineries include:
1. The Blue Valley Winery (a five-ten minute walk or about one to two minutes by car)
2. The Barrel Oak Winery and Taphouse (about two minutes)
3. Three Fox Vinyards (about five minutes)
4. RdV Vinyards (about seven minutes)
5. Delaplane Cellars (about seven minutes)
Point to Point Limousines offer wine tasting tours in the area. Their "Fauquier Cluster" hits several of the wineries on this list.
Breweries include:
1. The Barrel Oak Taphouse (two minutes away)
2. Lost Barrel Brewery in Middleburg (15 minutes away)
2. Altered Suds in Warrenton (20 minutes away)
3. The Front Royal Brewing Company (25 minutes away)
5. Bear Chase Brewing Company in Bluemont (28 minutes away)
For something different, head to Cobbler Mountain Cellars (eight minutes) and taste their delicious ciders!
A quick 12-minute drive takes you to Great Meadow in Old Tavern, where you can watch the Virginia Gold Cup or take in the ever-popular twilight polo. Hikers will enjoy the Sky Meadows Park (ten minutes away) with stunning vistas of the verdant Paris Valley.
If you prefer to do your sightseeing from the comfort of your car, Skyline Drive traverses the summits of the Blue Ridge in Shenandoah National Park, with spectacular views across the Piedmont area and into the Shenandoah Valley. A half-hour drive takes you to the Shenandoah River, which is great for canoeing, kayaking, or relaxing.
Spelunkers - don't miss the stunning, cathedral-like Luray Caverns. Also visit Skyline Caverns in Front Royal. Kids will love the mirror maze!
Your four-legged friends don't have to miss out on the fun. The house has a two-acre fenced in pasture with lots of stuff to sniff and explore while you are out sight-seeing.
You will have access to the entire house and grounds.
The house has keyless, contact-free entry. There is no need to stop and pick up a key.
I will be available at all times while guests are in the house, although I try to keep regular business hours as much as possible for the sake of my family. If something needs attention, I will do my best to get it fixed as quickly as possible!
Delaplane is a quiet community mostly made up of primary residences, although there are several vacation rentals in the area. When you stay at Fox Chase, you will likely see both other wine country visitors as well as residents who call the area home. I'd ask all guest to please be respectful of both!
The house is on a regular, monthly pest control schedule, but sometimes unwanted bugs may venture inside. Delaplane is home to caterpillars, stink bugs, and Asian beetles which view open windows and doors as an invitation, especially at the changing of the season. I recommend keeping windows and doors closed when not in use.
The house is in an area where broadband internet is not yet available. The house does have decent Wi-Fi through the AT&T network, but it is not up to speeds that one might be able to find in the city. When many devices are connected, you may experience slow internet. It should be fine for most work-from-home sorts of things and it is more than enough for video streaming in standard definition.
The house sits within earshot of I-66. On occasion, there may be a disturbance from the traffic on I-66, but generally the noise is nothing more than a light rumble. The solid construction of the house keeps most unpleasant noises outside.
Check in is at 4:00 pm and check out is at 10:00. These times are fixed. The cleaners keep a very tight schedule and make their plans around this six hour window. Out of respect to them, I cannot make exceptions to these times.
Please also note that as a small business, I am not able to grant last-minute refunds, so I highly recommend protecting your investment with travel insurance.
So why book this property?
Location. Very close to the best that Virginia's horse, wine, and hunt country has to offer, including some of the finest wineries, restaurants, wedding venues, and shopping in the region. Conveniently located near I-66, it is also a convenient base to explore Virginia's Piedmont from Washington DC to the Shenandoah Valley.
Layout. Five acres, five spacious bedrooms, 5,000 square feet, three living rooms, table seating for groups up to 20, this house is perfectly suited to host larger groups. Great flow between rooms, both on the main level with the kitchen, dining room, and living room, and in the lower level, from the gym to the hot tub and out to the lawn and fire pit.
Love. My family loves this home and we have put some of our heart and soul into it. We also love sharing it and we promise to do our best to make your stay there special.
Unique benefits:
When you stay with us, you will be supporting a woman-owned, veteran-owned, minority-owned small business.
We are proud of our commitment to always pay cleaners and other workers a living wage.

We had a great time minus some hiccups due to weather that were out of dollys control but she stayed in close touch and helped us throughout!

The house was huge and great for a large friend group to stay! The yard was a huge bonus for the dogs and walking around was lovely.

I’m pretty surprised by the reviews here. While nothing was egregiously bad, the entire house needs basic work such as painting, holes in the wall fixed, gaps in the flooring, etc. Kitchen is not stocked to accommodate 10+ people (lack of wine glasses for instance). Cleaning was subpar - one person looked for their phone in couch cushions and did not enjoy what they saw.
Owner is friendly and communicates well but apologies in advance for deficiencies and asked for a 5 star review.
Overall, an enjoyable trip but wouldn’t return.

Such a great home base for a long weekend! We had lots of space, house was clean and well-stocked, and Dolly was super responsive. Excellent location.

Our family gathering was for an early Christmas and the host surprised us with a Christmas tree and other decorations. The host had the place completely ready.
All 10 of us felt right at home. Nice sheets and towels, great kitchen supplies. Best rental experience!

Nice home close to many wineries. We walked to Blue Valley Winery the day we arrived and drove to Naked Mountain Winery and Delaplane Cellars the following day, both nearby. The kitchen was well equipped and house very comfortable but you do hear some noise from nearby traffic. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the late afternoon.

We stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend with a group of 4 adults and two dogs. It was very spacious and comfortable and located in the middle of many delicious wineries. Our dogs loved the big years and we enjoyed being close to state parks and outdoor activities.

Overall, a lovely home in a beautiful country setting! Despite some small flaws (it could use some basic minor repairs ) it served our needs nicely. We particularly enjoyed the backyard and fire pit!

My extended family stayed here for my wedding weekend and it worked out perfectly. Plenty of space to spread out and different spaces for kids and adults. The deck and backyard acted as another living space too. The two upstairs shower faucets acted a little finicky, but there were no issues otherwise. We would definitely stay here again!

When we arrived, everything was very well set up and the house was gorgeous. Host was quick with suggestions and responses throughout the weekend when messages were sent for questions. Location itself is very convenient, being a short drive from a little town for grocery shopping or browsing local restaurant and wineries; the house is also close to the highway for easy access to airports and other areas. Great bonus is the hot tub, fire pit, and the nice little trail to the local winery which was very pleasant. Overall, a great stay that I would go to again for my next gathering!

Great location near Wineries, Breweries, and many golf courses. Huge house with lots of space for families and a huge outdoor area to enjoy.

We had a wonderful weekend at this house. It's in a very convenient location for western attractions and the road noise of I-66 is surprisingly muted with the windows shut. Everything about the house and its amenities was exactly as described.
More importantly, the host is thorough, proactive, and very responsive -- you will get the information you need (and then some) in plenty of time to plan and pack and feel well cared for in the process.

We loved our long weekend here on the very spacious property. Our dogs loved being able to run out of the house and immediately out to the yard. Our friends loved how spacious the house was, accommodating the 8 of us very comfortably. Highly recommend the walk to the vineyard, hiking at Sky Meadows state park, and driving over to King Spa for a day of fun.

This house was exactly what I needed to celebrate my birthday with all of my friends and get away from the DC area. With the basketball game, corn hole, fire pit, and comfy couches, we didn’t even need to leave the house, but it was still nice to walk to the wineries nearby and go out to restaurants. Will be coming back!

We wanted a big house that could easily fit 11 women and this did not disappoint. All the beds, pillow and linens were comfortable. The kitchen was spacious and we utilized the dining room as well. It was so nice having the extra family room, living room and downstairs space. Our favorite areas were the kitchen island, table and outdoor deck!!!

I was in the area for a horse show located at the Upperville Show Grounds. The house was conveniently located and large enough to accommodate nine equestrians with a lot of gear!
We cooked a large dinner one of the nights and the kitchen was well equipped and there was enough space for everyone. The beds are extremely comfortable and the owner of the property was easily accessible for questions. Highly recommend.

Staying in this house was a real treat! It is absolutely beautiful, impeccably clean, and very large. We were a family of 9 and the house was very spacious! The game room on the lower level was great for the kids, along with a nice hot tub. There are many different rooms to sit in and relax along with 2 smart TVs. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you could need to cook and is very big and modern. Outdoor space is exceptional, with a large deck (where we ate supper every night after after grilling).Huge yard with fire pit, quiet and private. Also not too far from stores/ grocery. Host was very helpful and responsive to anything we needed. We would definitely come back here again!

best house!!
Clean, bright and comfortable. Plan something to play on the lawn. The view is so good. Fireflies fly around at night~^^ There is nothing lacking for 18 people. Water works well and the air conditioner works very well. It is recommended as a place for a retreat, a meeting, or a family trip. We would like to visit there again. It was one of the best houses I've ever stayed in.

We were a group of 8 adults and absolutely loved our stay. We had May showers most of the weekend but that didn't stop us from enjoying the fire pit and nearby wineries. The house is so spacious we still had lots of fun cooking, playing poker, hanging in the hot tub, and enjoying the basement games. The nearby wineries were very friendly and there was plenty of indoor space. We made use of the two fridges and thought the kitchen was very well stocked. Dolly was very communicative and replied quickly whenever we had questions. We also ventured into Marshall for Cinco De Mayo and enjoyed Agave's margaritas and salsa. We hope to come again someday!

This was a large and comfortable home and perfect for our small company retreat. We had 6 people staying and invited a couple of partner companies over for break-out sessions, so at one point we had 14 people for lunch and meetings. The house was able to accommodate us all easily. The kitchen/breakfast room is very large and perfect for hanging out, noshing and enjoying some wine. The living room has a very comfortable sectional. We also enjoyed the roomy back deck. The only drawback is that you can hear the traffic noise from I-66. Truthfully, this did not bother us at all, but if you are looking for a getaway with no reminders of "civilization" this might not be the best spot. Otherwise, the location is beautiful and it is very conveniently located near wineries and lovely local restaurants. Highly recommend!
