Thanks to Erich and Suzy for making our short stay as cozy as possible and helping us figure out plans. Between plane delays and terribly rainy weather, our volcano visit was mostly a washout. But the rooms were very cute, the nice big bathroom was helpful to have with all 4 of us, and the breakfast was delish. Thanks again!

If you are looking for a cookie cutter “beach” Hawaii experience keep on scrolling, but if you want a genuine Hawaiian experience being surrounded by tropical greenery, the sound of the ocean, and tranquility - then this is for you! The perfect location at the end of a road, a beautiful balcony to sip coffee (or wine) and watch the whales breaching, a short drive to Hilo (which is a tropical paradise that is not overrun by tourists), and easy access to the volcano (a beautiful 45 min drive). The hosts are fantastic - helpful yet respectful of your space. The accommodations are extremely clean, and the breakfast delightful. I suspect I will be back :) thank you for a perfect getaway!

Heaven in Hilo
This is a perfect location to center your activities for exploring the east side of the Big Island. Just down the road from Hilo and Pahoa, great beaches to explore. Quick trip to Volcano for hiking and crater viewing. Pool is a plus after a long day out and about. Beds comfortable. Hosts helpful at all times. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and would not hesitate to return if lucky enough to be in the area again.

Quiet and tranquil
Great location to enjoy Hilo and Volcano National Park. Lives up to the B&B experience. Great breakfast staged with amazing viof the ocean and distant slopes of the volcano. The breakfast was served with fruits and baked goods from local markets. The location provided a quiet, tranquil, relaxing environment to reset. The kids enjoyed the pool and the views from the lanai were spectacular.
As mentioned in other posts, there isn't a place to cook dinner so guests must plan to have lunch and dinner out. The closest restaurants are 15 to 20 minutes away. There is a small refrigerator and microwave for your convenience.
Overall, an awesome experience I will likely experience again.
Thanks for being gracious hosts and providing a wonderful place to enjoy the island. We thourghally enjoyed the morning coffee, discussions, and the house.

Peaceful days in Hawaiian Paradise
We startet every morning with excellent breakfast on the lanai watching the smooth and sparkling movements of the ocean, perfect! Erich was himself so passionate about the island and gave us amazing tipps what to do, where to eat, etc. Our late check-in also was well organized. We enjoyed our stay a lot and can highly recommend the Aloha suite...

The owners are very friendly and helpful. We didn't realize it didn't have a kitchen in the rooms we rented, but it worked out fine with assistance with barbecue and clean up from owners. We also got very useful sightseeing suggestions from them. It's a nice property. Liked the town of Pahoa nearby.

We had a truly lovely time at this off the beaten path B&B. Our family of three stayed in their 2 room suite. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. The highlight was breakfast on the lanai looking out over the sea cliffs. We even saw a group of whales breach on our last morning. The hosts are friendly and have good insight into the area. They kindly tolerated our rambunctious and chatty 4 year old's obsession with their cat. Would highly recommend this spot if you're looking for something out of the hustle of town with easy access to all of the east side of the island's attractions.

Hilo Bliss
I am so glad we decided to spend a few nights on the Hilo side of the island to finish out our Big Island adventure. Hilo is underrated – you must visit! Ala Kai B&B was a lucky choice, we loved everything about staying here and really wish we could have stayed longer. Erich and Suzy were lovely and gracious hosts with excellent advice. And their curious cat is adorable.
Our rooms were fantastic and spacious, and the beds were quite comfortable. We slept with the windows open but there is AC if you want it. Note that the coqui frogs are very loud, but we got used to them after the first night (and I miss them now). The lanai is peaceful and refreshing and the pool is perfect to end the day. There is fruit on the property that they share for breakfast (depending on what is ripe). I really miss this place and the ONLY negative I have is that our stay was too short! We will be back!

Great stay
This was our first trip to the Big Island, and we wanted to begin with a visit to Volcano National Park, along with some local beaches and attractions. This location is in great proximity to both. It is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, which makes it great for walks in the morning, and a peaceful surrounding altogether. It also makes for a longer drive to restaurants in town. We were so beat from our daily adventures, that we were happy to either eat early before returning, or pick up something to eat at the B&B. The view from the lanai is lovely, and we enjoyed eating our meals there. A nice breakfast is served daily, and the hosts are friendly and are happy to give advice on the area if needed.

Erich and Susie are gracious hosts. Their property is spacious and clean, and the shared lanai has shade, comfortable seating and ocean views. The location is great, both Hilo and sights north and Volcano and sights south are readily accessible. Pahoa is near with a funky vibe and some fine restaurants. This area is very relaxing and laid back, particularly compared to Kona side. Erich and Susie provide a great base for east side explorations.
