The region
Exmoor is one of the least visited National Parks so has a low tourist footprint! It straddles coastal North Devon and West Somerset. Nonetheless, it is packed with amazing beaches and amenities.
The nearest amenities are found in Lynmouth and Lynton. Lynton has a variety of amenities, including a range cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from, there are two mini-supermarkets, a bank, post office, chemist and an excellent Tourist Information Centre. There is also a small cinema, and tennis and bowls facilities. The twin village of Lynmouth sits on the harbour below at the bottom of the hill, and also has a good choice of shops, pubs and restaurants. Lynmouth can be accessed via road, footpath or the famous funicular railway.
Lynton and Lynmouth are very special places to visit, the spectacular coastline and deeply cut river valleys in this unique area provide wonderful opportunities for walking; the South West Coast Path and the Two Moors Way are two examples. The famous Watersmeet is not far away, a beautiful National Trust tea garden and shop situated at the meeting of the East Lyn River and Hoar Oak Water. If this isn't enough, sandy beaches can be found within a delightful scenic drive.
The village of Porlock has three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, Post Office, chemist, cash machine, hardware shop, visitor centre and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms.
The larger towns of Minehead 14 miles, Ilfracombe and Barnstaple are all approximately 20 miles away, here you will find the larger supermarkets, high street banks, etc.

Excellent communication and arrival instructions. We had a lovely stay at Wingate Farm, the property on arrival was spotlessly clean and stylishly decorated. Very well equipped, I don't think there was anything not provided. Owners were available if any issues, lovely family and very accommodating.
Fabulous location overlooking the sea from the top of Exmoor. Extremely quiet (maybe isolating for some) but if you are looking for an escape from the rat race then this is it! Located halfway between Porlock and Lynmouth on the moors, so very well placed for seeing the best of Exmoor and the coast. WiFi is available but phone networks are not great, so you have no choice but to chill out and relax 😉 Wingate Farm Cottage accommodated our long overdue family holiday perfectly (3 generations), perfectly adequate inside space, and lovely private enclosed garden with BBQ. We loved it and would definitely recommend.

Previous reviews for this holiday cottage were excellent, and we weren't disappointed. We too found it very clean, comfortable, well equipped and thoughfully finished. The hosts were very accommodating, and it was lovely to be able to share their beautiful farm for a few days. We chose this cottage in part as we have a baby and a toddler, and we would recommend to others with young children - the cottage was well set up, the immediate outside space was secure and our little boy loved roaming the farm and seeing all the animals. Very pleased all round!
4.8
Superb cottage with plenty of room and very peaceful. We did a lovely circular walk from the cottage; head out to County Gate then walk to the Blue Ball for a pint, via Brendon, Rockford and Watersmeet... a gorgeous valley. From the pub, pick up the coast path back to the cottage... about 11 miles.
4.8

Thank you very much for opening up your farm for holidays

The cottage was beautiful, clean, lots of space and had all the amenities you could want.
We loved our stay and would definitely return.
We visited nearby Lynton and Lynmouth which is beautiful. Have fish and chips at the Esplanade on the front in Lynmouth. Make sure you take a trip on the Cliff Railway as this is a must.
We also visited Porlock Weir and had a walk along the pebble beach and had a roast at The Bottom Ship which was lovely. We also travelled into Minehead and sat on the beach enjoying an ice cream.

The secure garden was superb for our dogs. The kitchen is excellent and well stocked with all the things you need. The owners recommended using Morrisons for grocery deliveries. Log burner earned its money during our rain soaked week. Great location for walking.

This is a delightful property set close to the A39, which cannot be heard or seen. It is well equipped and provides a fabulous location to either relax or visit the local area. Porlock, Porlock Weir, Lynmouth, Lynton and the Valley of the Rocks all come highly recommended. The hosts, who live next door, are a very friendly couple who offered support for any of our queries.

We had a fantastic Autumn half term break at the sparkling clean and comfortable cottage with our dog. It’s in the perfect spot for moorland cliff top walks looking out to sea then relaxing by the wood-burner. We particularly enjoyed picking mushrooms for our breakfast on top of the farm’s own Roman fortlet. Had a great lunch at the dog-friendly Blue Ball Inn and Lynton/Lynmouth are only a short drive away. The vast beaches of Saunton Sands/Woolacombe are about 50 mins.

We have just had a fantastic short break at wingate farm. The kids loved the animals and watching the tractor coming and going. The cottage was warm, clean and comfortable with great cooking facilities and a large kitchen table which seated all seven of us comfortably. We will definitely be back.

We liked the location as it is great for walks from the cottage and we liked being able to walk around the farm and fields. The cottage had everything we needed, comfy beds, lots of hot water and warm. The owners are friendly and helpful, would stay there again.

We stayed here as 3 couples for a long weekend and had a great time. Lots of space inside and out to relax. The house was spotless and very well equipped. We got a taxi into Lynmouth for a great night out and barbecued in the garden on another evening. Travelled to local beaches in the day and were spoilt with amazing weather. And as a bonus, 2 very friendly kittens came to visit. 5 🌟 stay.
