About this house rental

The historic Pioneer Haus was built in 1848 and was one of the first homes constructed of natural resources in the budding town of Fredericksburg by the Kneese family who had recently immigrated from Germany. The main living area maintains the rustic charm of the wood and plaster walls that have withstood the test of 175 years. An early meeting place of the Methodist Church, the home has seen several additions and hosted many notables over the years of use. This is more than just a place to stay, it is immersing yourself in the history of Fredericksburg and the pioneers who settled this land. Admire the craftsmanship of the hand hewn timber, stones and square hand hammered nails. Step out the front door and watch the heart of the city pass by. Easily walk to shops, parks, churches and restaurants. No fussing with parking, leave your car in the driveway and take an easy stroll to all the sites and attractions.

Pioneer Haus features a full kitchen with a functioning vintage reproduction stove with six burners and an oven. A well worn cast metal sink serves current occupants as it did many generations before. Enjoy a meal in the dining room hewn from native Stonewall limestone rock which stays naturally cool in hot Texas summers. Modern amenities also complement the kitchen including a microwave, toaster, an ice maker and your choice of a Keurig or a standard coffee maker. Relax in the private backyard area by soaking in the hot tub, enjoying a fire at the fire pit all while watching the outdoor television.

The home accommodates 7 people with a large primary bedroom featuring a king size bed with quality linens and comfortable pillows, a second bedroom with a queen size bed, and a third bedroom with both a queen size bed and a single bed. The primary bathroom has a large walk-in shower and the second bathroom has a tub/shower combination. The home is decorated with period antiques mixed with a clean, modern feel. Pioneer Haus provides all the comforts of modern life such as high speed Wi-fi and streaming TVs, take a work call or stream your favorite show. The outdoor firepit and grill allow for enjoying the private yard space. The property is directly across the street from the Gillespie County Historical Society and the Pioneer Museum. It is also diagonally across the street from St. Mary's Catholic Church making it very convenient for anyone attending events at either of these popular destinations. The location is very walkable to all of Main Street with a myriad of restaurants, shops and event venues. No need to find parking on busy Main Street, you can park your car on our property and easily walk to most attractions. There is also ample free parking right outside the front door.

Overall it's a cute property, but the layout was a little odd. Two of the bedrooms were connected by a common door. One couple had to go through the bathroom or the other bedroom to get out. It was a little odd to enter the property in through the back which was the master bedroom. The location was great!

Such a fun and unique house that felt really special for all its historic charm. There was a great balance of original details with modern upgrades and conveniences. Host made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable, and was always available to communicate. Loved the outdoor living spaces!

We had come to Fredericksburg for a family reunion. We found this property to be a perfect blend of rustic Texas hill country textures and yet perfectly comfortable. I especially enjoyed the intimate den/ sitting area. It was a wonderful space to sit, relax, and reflect. We found the property clean, and well stocked. The manager was a pleasure to work with and graciously explained how to work the door lock upon my arrival. We truly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful rustic home that has the charm of Fredericksburg! The town has great history and this home represents that 100%. It is an easy walk away from Main street and if you take the ghost tour you'll end just down the street. Extremely clean with a great master shower, the main room promotes social friendly gathering, and the front patio was a joy to sit and enjoy the morning. Great parking if you happen to have friends or family joining you and a large dinning table for dinners. We will definitely stay here again.

The host was gracious enough to let me check in early since there was bad weather coming. Check in process was simple! The house was clean, and had tons of character. The location is perfect for walking many places. Overall very happy!

The property location is fine and it is a unique stay, however we arrived the same day that another guest had checked out per our communication with the property manager and it obviously was not well-cleaned or inspected between guests. When we arrived the trash bins were full of liquor bottles, which did not bother us at the time but indicated the prior guest activity. After our check-out, the property manager sent pictures of a phone, a walkie-talkie, a damaged chair and green water in the hot tub, stating that these were the result of my stay. I contacted them back and said the belongings are not mine and we did not even use the hot tub during our short stay (a Monday thru Wednesday). I asked if they had contacted the guest that checked out on Monday and had been there over the weekend. I never heard back. Obviously the property was not thoroughly cleaned and definitely the hot tub was not inspected or trash removed before our arrival.

We had a lovely weekend celebrating our friends birthday. Not only is the location perfect for walking around Main Street, it is an adorable home with lots of Texas flare. Very clean and well stocked with essentials for staying in. Super comfy beds with plenty of space for our group of 6.

This is an absolute stunner of a rental. The history that is obvious throughout the home is fantastic. But it has all the modern amenities you need. Perfectly located to Main Street shops and dining and across the street from. Beautiful historic church. I’d give it 10 stars if I could! Will Definitely stay again.

This is a tremendous property...close to the downtown area and lots of restaurants plus lots of shops. We all loved it. And the property manager, Cindy was excellent and very responsive. we had made a suggestion before we left and within 3 hours, our suggestion was adopted and Something new was added for the master bedroom. We will come here again!!!

The Pioneer Haus was amazing! Super clean, great location (1 block off Main across from the Catholic Church) and so cozy! Our plans changed so it was way too big for my husband and I but with 1 or 2 more couples it would still be comfortable. We really only slept there and had a furnished cup of coffee both mornings but there is an adorable kitchen, hot tub and fire pit as well. Check-in/out was a breeze. Looking forward to more trips to Pioneer Haus!

Had a great weekend here! Walking distance to Main Street and had everything we would need. Cool house! We had two couples and it was like having two master suites so perfect for us for sure! But still plenty of room if all 3 rooms are filled. Would definitely stay again!

This beautiful, historic home has luxurious bedding and amenities, and is comfortable for all. It is within walking distance of great Fredericksburg shopping, restaurants, and the Pioneer Museum. We relaxed and enjoyed the patio, hot tub and fire pit, all while keeping up with college football on the many inside and outside large screen TVs. 5-10 minute drive to great wineries and to Hill Country Herb Garden and Spa. The owner went above and beyond to help us celebrate our double family birthday (85 and 21) by decorating with balloons and a banner before our arrival. Thanks so much and we will definitely be back!

We had no idea we were coming during Oktoberfest, but it was a nice surprise. This house is so cute and I believe it's 175 years old? Has everything you need for a comfortable stay and pretty much in the heart of the town. We would stay again!

This was a very nice experience. Our host was great, the location was perfect and parking was not an issue. Honestly I haven't slept that comfortably in years. That seemed to be the consensus with the whole family. I wish we could have stayed longer.
