We really liked the hotel. It was convenient, comfortable and had a very nice staff. There's a great diner on site. The hotel is very safe. There's lots of security, but not a lot of parking at the hotel itself... it's first come, first served. If you get an assigned parking place, you do have in/out privileges. If you don't get parking at the hotel, there's a good parking structure close by. However, as a woman, I would not have felt safe walking in the area alone. I was fine with my husband along, but we were both relieved when a parking space became available at the hotel. The homeless set up camp in the area at night. Too bad, because it's a really nice place to stay.

Great hotel, downtown area

Wow! BEAUTIFUL hotel. EXTREMELY secure. The suites are spacious with many amenities. LOVED our stay. Would definitely return!!!

Doesn’t have face towels, not enough coffee cups and no trash can in the bedroom.

Very nice facility. Although restaurants were close by, no room service.

The hotel is great, if they don't have parking available there are a couple of garages nearby which end up being cheaper. Only problem is the hotel is right at the edge of an unpleasant neighbourhood, so plenty of unpleasant people just a block away

This is a great place to stay to access the Opera, Ballet, symphony, City Hall and Hayes Valley. It is on the edge of the tenderloin but unlike many of the other good choices in the area you do not actually need to wak through the Tenderloin to get there. It has everything you need, is comfortable and clean and does the job.

I liked the hotel a lot! However, I felt very unsafe walking alone (woman) in the neighbourhood, even during day time.
4.4
A lot of people “hanging out” both sides of the hotel.

Well kept and nice hotel

When booking our hotel the photos of the room/common area looked beautiful and we were so excited for our stay. However when we arrived, we realized that the parking garage gates were down. We checked in and were told the lot was ‘full’ and we would have to park in the garage down the street which ended up costing us $30 for the 2 nights we stayed. We were hoping to grab a spot in the garage early morning/midday as we arrived late for check in but the gate never opened up which was pretty frustrating. The room was very mediocre and quite small for a king room. The bed was hard and pretty uncomfortable and the pillows flattened within seconds of laying down. The aesthetic of the hotel was lovely but the room/parking situation was very low tier and not very relaxing. The staff however was very nice. We have stayed in the Holiday Inn just down the street on Van Ness before but wanted to try a new spot as this place seemed a little fancier. However we much would have rather stayed at the Holiday Inn as we were given a spot in the parking garage, breakfast was included and the room was much more spacious for the same price. We were hoping for more from the Marriott!

The courtyard was amazing! Got a room upgrade for it being our wedding day, and got concession vouchers. The room was beautiful, clean and very spacious. Bed was super comfy and shower was great size

I booked my reservation at 8:41pm and arrived at the hotel at 9:10pm. At 9:20pm I left the hotel bc I was not allowed to check in.
I did not have enough money for the incidental fee. I have stayed at this hotel twice prior in the last two months. Each time I was charged a $20 incidental fee. Tonight $100 was requested and I said I was unable to do that. I showed my receipts for the $20 incidental fees on my previous stays and asked why the fee was so much more this time and said I could do a fee of $50. I did not appreciate the response and conversation between the two employees at the front desk right after I said that. The employee not checking me in said to the other employee “it’s your call. You can charge $20” and the employee checking me in scoffed at that and said he wouldn’t do that. I was never given a key or checked in and I had to leave. Again my room had been paid for prior to me arriving. I had to drive an hour back to where I live. I’m very hurt and disturbed by what happened.
The employees could have refunded me last night. I’ve had to message and call this morning trying to get a refund. Instead I get to feel embarrassed and shamed AGAIN explaining I couldn’t afford the incidental fee trying to get a refund.

First time staying in this area and was happy with my selection.

This hotel was awful. The staff was friendly I’ll give this hotel that but everything else was horrifying. My room was at the end of a long maze of rooms. The building smells old. My view was of crackheads on the street below me shooting up, screaming at each other and defecating out in the open…. To make matters worse my room smelled of something awful. Like mold. Or hot mold. When I called down to the front desks they said they had no other rooms available. Eventually a hotel employee did come up and said it smelled like the fridge had been left open and turned off… I couldn’t get rid of the smell no matter what. I almost left in the middle of the night with the combo of the crackheads below and the terrible smell from the room. The hotel employee suggested I open my window to air out the room but all that did was intensify the noise from the homeless people right below my window.
I barely slept. It was awful. That smell. Oh my god. Would never stay here again and it is definitely not a safe area to be walking around at any time of day. Very disappointing.

It is a comfprtable stay...I did not like paying $59 for parking on top of the room fee and then we got a lower parking spot where we had to walk up a flight of stairs just to go to the upper parking pad to get in the hotel

Meet my needs

Chose this location because it had on site parking. However, when we checked in, their parking was full & we had to go to a public parking structure a block over. Not a huge deal, just a bit inconvenient.

Helpful staff, great location

I loved the hotel and staff. I didn't like the fact that I could not get any reward points on my Marriot Bonvoy account because I booked the stay with Expedia.

Arriving is a nightmare there was no sign pointing to our room number on the floor. If u are arriving by car they should give you instructions on how to find the secret entrance

Hotel is nicely renovated and service was great. Unfortunately, this part of SF has been overrun by homeless drug addicts making personal safety feel like a real issue.
4.4
The room was very neat and quiet. The bathroom was really lovely. Real tile and real glass doors! We were in town due to our son’s medical procedure and the hotel was very conveniently located. It’s a wonderful old building with wonderful updates!

First solo trip and was very pleased with my entire experience. Safety is always a concern of mine and having to use a key card to get to your level in the elevator was a nice touch. Definitely planning to come back soon! Also having access to mels kitchen made is simple to grab a quick dinner with out having to step foot outside of the hotel.

The area around the property is unsafe especially at night. The hotel is okay, but I will not stay here again.
