The staff are unfriendly, poor customer service, the receptionist couldn’t find my bookings . I was very disappointed and emotionally distressed! I think for my mental health I would never again book with Expedia to stay at African hotel !!!!

the room fridge was not working. The Room AC was difficult to operate and shut off twice in the middle of the night. The TV was not easy to operate. Only had sound but no picture. The water faucet in the shower was stuck on very hot water and ended up taking a cold shower.

Unprofessional stuffs, not cooperative at all.

Gracious staff, clean rooms and quirky architecture. Odd styling choices, which seem to be Soviet inspired, and that's part of the experience. Great value for a historic property.

Excellent helpful staff

I had no warm water, other than that was a good stay.

The staff was friendly in the view was breathtaking.

Perfect location for business. Good service overall. Property condition needs a spruce up

It is not a hotel for $ 88. Please increase by 10-15 dollar and choose another hotel if you are visiting Kampala. I don’t want to be rude by giving details.( hygiene, food and noises are the mean issues).
3.5
convenient location, service is good and good size rooms
3.5
everything needs some updating. Wardrobe wouldn’t close, some plumbing in bathroom poorly repaired

The pool area is beautiful! And the gym is perfect.

Wonderful inappropriate service

As always it does what it says on the tin at a reasonable price. The new gym is excellent, I just hope they look after it.
3.5
It’s a modern hotel centrally located, clean and good service

The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was great. Everyone we came in contact had such a beautiful smile. I appreciate the hospitality and I look forward to coming again.

We did not enjoy our stay at hotel Africana. The biggedt reason for this was that when we went for breakfast, we were told we didn’t have breakfarst included. We weren’t informed of this when checking in. The breakfast was also very bad, and they charged us around 12 dollars per person each day, additional to the super expensive hotel rate, compared to the quality of the room. And when we checked out we had to pay additional 5 percent for paying our bill by card. While staying here, we had the feeling that they just did everything they could to get more money from us, without providing anything. When ordering food, you also had to pay, just to order. The beds were super hard, and we couldn’t sleep. We had been looking forward to spend a day by the pool, but there was just a couple sunbeds. And the few sunbeds were occupied every day. When the water is freezing, you would like to have a sunbed to warm up afterwards. It was also really hard to get food and drinks by the pool. The worst part was the attitude from the reseption when we complained about this. This is not a service minded hotel, and I would not stay here again. On the positive side, the location is good.

Nice hotel, with a lovely garden area to enjoy a meal and drink in the evening. It is a little dated, but decent value for money. Service for food or drink is so slow, even by Uganda standards.

we are coming to this hotel since several years and like it

My stay was generally pleasant. The hotel is a bit old but the staff is fantastic and the breakfast is quite varied. Rooms are large and clean. The bathroom though acceptable needs to be upgraded for a more comprehensive experience. I had no issues thought and enjoyed my stay.

This was my third stay at the Hotel Africana. The first two times were 10 years ago. One of those times included a seminar I held using their facilities. They were very accommodating of my needs and I would recommend the hotel for both business and vacation travel. Sometimes, a hotel can become rundown in a decade's time--not the Hotel Africana! The grounds are still lovely, the rooms spacious, cool and comfortable, the bathrooms even better equipped than before. Everything worked, everyone was helpful, efficient, warm and welcoming. The breakfast (included) was beyond my expectations! Even though the hotel is downtown Kampala, it is "off to the side" enough to be quiet. Security provided a sense of safety in spite of the proximity to the heart of the city. I will be returning to the Hotel African again.

Hi stayed at 4 nights this is perfect if you have to meet people as it’s the center . Rooms are big neat and clean however the furniture needs some work . Bathrooms are big . After a busy day outside lawn service with some music is relaxing! How ever it is a old property and gives that feel . Service is slow they serve as their own pace staff is helping and smiling Recommended !

Hi, I have never visited the Africana before and whilst for some it is a beautiful holiday I felt that it was a little pretentious for me. In the main my bedroom was fine but was located on the 5th floor. 3 of the 4 lifts were out of action the weekend I stayed there and the fourth lift looked out onto the exterior of the hotel i.e. it had a glass door which freaked me out. The hotel was very good and swoppted my room. The second room was very tired, and near to the front of the hotel and the security area which was very noisy. The furniture was quite tired and the lighting in the room was dreadful which made it took tired and depressing. Bed linen was gorgeous, really good quality linen which smelt really nice. The bathroom was fine but the trim on the baths in both room were made out of metal and made it look really cheap. The food in the hotel was great and the Kenyan chef made a real mean curry. The hotel driver was good staying with us wherever we went and did not mind if we were a bit late coming back. The area is in a very busy part of Kampala so great for getting around. The swimming pool was large but freezing. Grounds are lovely. Plenty of places to sit oitside but not many sun beds. The bedrooms have mini balconies which look really nice but are not accessible i.e. they are for show only. There is a bar in the hotel which provides food and drink on a 24 hour basis which is really handy. Breakfast is good and the staff are really good at helping serve you.

The room was spacious and comfortable.
Good security at entrance.
TV was not working due to a fault with tuning, and despite making several requests to rectify, it remained unworkable for our four day stay.
No safe provided in room. Despite two promises to deliver a safe to the room, no safe ever arrived.
Service in the outside dining room was exceptionally slow, although the food was good when it finally arrived.

I was in town for a Leadership Training Conference and needed a good hotel without breaking the bank. The Hotel Africana was a nice place to come back to at the end of a busy day in a very crowded city.

The day I arrived, I asked that the TV be fixed. It was not fixed the whole week. It was stuck on 1 channel, while others could get other channels for news.

The hotel staff are very friendly, and room is bright and clean. Ficilities are almost ok, only Wi-Fi is not steady, not available sometime.

this time better then the previous time. Internet is very slow and not for voice communication

I stayed 8 nights in Hotel Africana (trip for work), my room on th 7th floor was spacious and quiet and it had all basic facilities such as tea/coffee minibar, hairdryer, electric kettle and a little fridge. Although the hotel is not new, the cleaning service was good and reliable (clean towels changed every day plus the basic cosmetics). There were also some facilities in the lobby: change bureau, travel counter (taxis and trips), restaurants, bar, little bakery shop, a kiosk where you can top up your local mobile or buy newspapers and souvenir shops. Another good point is the central location: about 2-3km far from shopping malls, and a walking distance to shops and a supermarket just behind the hotel area (7-10 min by walk). I particularly appreciated a nice and helpful hotel staff, a stable wifi connection, good security services and a big comfortable bed. Unfortunately, the swimming pool looked a bit abandoned as there were only few pool beds and during my stay, I have not seen guests using it. The gym is very small and pretty old and definitely, needs renovation and new machines.
I would not recommended it for a holiday stay, but if you need a safe place in central area close to offices and shopping malls, it can be an option. They also provide a reliable airport pickup service (30 usd one ride, 50 usd both ways).
