Breakfast starts at 7 AM. Last day not all breakfast stuff was in place before 7.30 AM. As a business traveller, I'm prefer breakfast starts at 6.30. The room interior could have been more modern. Appreciated the jacuzzi in the room. Otherwise the interior in the lobby etc is cool.

Stayed here with my tour group the night of October 8. The main building of the hotel is over 300 years old, and this hotel screams character. Some of the stairs are quite steep, but have no fear, they have elevators. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms felt a bit spartan but were very comfortable. Bathroom had a tub and a seperate shower stall. The fixtures reminded me of my grandmothers home. The breakfast was very good and well worth the price. If I were to travel to Gronnigen I would stay here again. Lots of places to eat nearby if you dont want to dine at the hotel. Underground parking is a short walk from the hotel.

The hotel is amazing ! The position is perfect to quietly go around and discover the center. I think it deserve to pay a little bit more to prefer a room on the roofs, even better with a jacuzi where you can enjoy alone or with your partner After your day and maybe after a Rainy day ! Groninger centre is small and easy to visit in few days !!! The breakfast is really good with fresa products and you can enjoy it in a beautiful sala or in a small Garden ! Another good point the hotel is pet friendly!

Nice facilities, great atmosphere, and personnel.
Superb location.
The only drawback is for those people with some mobility limitations, due to multiple steps/stairs to be overcome.

Sykkelferie. Ble ranet for mobiltelefon og pass, men fikk god hjelp fra ansatt på hotellet.

Good - restaurant, cellar bar
Bad - tiny room, poor breakfast, place needs a big renovation

The hotel was clean and cozy and the room as well. It is worn out but I like the vibe that you get from things like that.
However, our room suddenly went ice cold on the second night (no warm water or heating), but I guess it truly was therefore a vintage experience since they weren't used to modern living conditions back then so I can only blame myself for booking an old-timey hotel. Nevertheless, our room also had draft from bad insulation so pack warm regardless if staying during wintertime if you're not used to cold apartments in Central Europe.
Luckily we got our breakfast compensated but we still paid 140 euros per night so not really worth the money for me to be freezing. (festival time so all hotels were expensive)

Very helpful and responsive staff at reception. Centrally located hotel, would have loved to try breakfast at 7am but only opened at 8am.

The primary reason for my negative review is the fact the hotel was suppose to refund the first night of my stay due to the Train Stoppage in Amsterdam making it IMPOSSIBLE to go from Amsterdam to Groningen. I spoke with an agent and they advised me I would get credit for the first night. This did not happen. They lied. Even Expedia could not assist me. Everytime we tried to reach someone at the hotel, that person was not it.

Cleanliness was excellent, service was exceptional as was the food.
Only problem that I had was the stairs, which were steeper than we are used to in the UK, and the steps were shallower. No problem going up but had to be really careful coming back down. This was obviously due to the age of the building, so wouldn't change a thing.

This hotel is old and beautiful. The rooms are large and clean, with classic furniture. We had a wonderful stay!

We had a lovely stay. Our suite was beautiful, spacious and well decorated. The jacuzzi that fit two people was our favorite. There was a table in the suite, which was perfect for our dinners and breakfasts as public eating spaces were closed due to covid. The food was delicious and the staff was lovely. Highly recommend

Very unique property built out of an old estate home, with all of the rooms being individually decorated and shaped differently adds a lot of character to the place. We enjoyed our time spent here and although the COVID restrictions meant that certain amenities were not available, the staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again as it was very centrally located and provided easy access to walking around all of Groningen.

Large rooms for family and beautiful and cozy place.
Parking was a bit time Consuming as the receptionist did not explain the location very well and it therefore tool a significant amount of time to find

We had a room for three persons. There was enough space but the one person bed was not a normal bed but a folding bed (stretcher). It doesn’t sleep good.

This was our third time at Schimmelpenninck, so needless to say we love it here! Breakfast was as delicious as we remembered it, Jacuzzi as relaxing as we remembered it. We did notice that here and there, over the years, the hotel could do with a few touch-ups (lick of paint, tightening a few screws in the furniture, perhaps new pillows - all little things). Well definitely stay here again. Its amazing how quiet the hotel is, even if its on a busy street. Its a great location for shopping, dining and close to the station and the fabulous Groninger museum.

The location is close to Downtown, Groningen. The room style is quite old and the furniture is also quite old. There was only one window facing the chimney. When the window is open, flies often got in. No lift nor air conditioning. While the temperature was up to over 26, we could only rely on a noisy electric fan.
The merits about the room were that the bathroom was spacious and cozy and breakfast was great.

The Hotel is a classic, and all personel very helpful and friendly. Only downside is that they messed up my laundry(badly) What was worse though, despite promising that Management would contact me about my ruined items, no one bothered. Very disappointing that they have not yet (1 month later)

Charming and even the smallest room is super comfortable. Lovely courtyard and bar area. Didn’t have time to try the restaurant but it seemed very popular. Independent and has everything and more no big chain could provide with a quarter of the charm and atmosphere.

Please do not accept room 8, especially as i paid for a deluxe room........it is awful like a jail. there are better rooms in external annex building. The hotel decor is shabby chic......but to be honest it is very much more shabby! tv in room 8 is from 1980 and does not work either! why is it still there gathering dust? On the plus side breakfast room is great with plenty of vert tasty crosiants and breads as well as sausages etc. this was very good! Location is very central for restaurants in the city too!
