Very ordinary motel like rooms at a premium price. Not worth it. Plus, when my wife went to the office to get a light weight blanket - we don’t need a big heavy down quilt in the south in the summer - the clerk said he had none. Only after I went back to complain did he bother to actually look. And he found one.
5.0
Convenient location; room very dated; bathroom very small with no counter space
2.0
Tired property that needs renovation. Issues with heat and cooling. Walkable to restaurants and shopping. Helpful dining tips.
3.0
Older establishment but well maintained. Needs space in your room to set things.

Warm, friendly, easy check in. Parked car directly outside of room door. Room was clean & comfortable. Everything in great working order. Good shower with nice fluffy towels.

Our trip to Blowing Rock was work related. We came in for a one night stay involving two rooms. The greeting at the front desk was warm and welcoming with Sam. We found our rooms to be very clean, cosy and comfortable. We walked to diner and back and appreciated the convienence of this neighborhood hotel
Great place to stay when in Blowing Rock

Cozy and clean little hotel in beautiful little town. Nicest hotel in our trip so far. Blowing Rock and Hillwinds Inn are worth visiting!

Second time staying both times were wonderful Great location!

I liked the chairs out front for sitting quietly outside enjoying coffee and conversation with neighbors

I loved staying at Hillwinds Inn. The location was perfect for access to downtown shopping and eateries and easy access to highway.
I did not expect everything to be so clean as the property has been at this location for quite a number of years, but the room and property were well cared for. When I checked in, the clerk told me that the best place for breakfast was the Hellbender, less than a block down the street. They had homemade biscuit sandwiches that were worth the trip! I stayed for 4 days and had a wonderfully relaxing time.

Hillwinds Inn was in a very convenient location right in the middle of all the action on Main Street, perhaps a 5 minute walk only. The staff was very friendly and courteous. However, the room itself, which clean, was very outdated - everything seems very old and when we entered had a stale smell - I guess just old furniture. In any event, it did the job for a night's stay.

We arrived right after 8 pm had to park a truck and trailer on the street since there was no parking a trailer in the hotel parking lot. We received a call from the office while trying to park and were told that they were closing and could not wait five minutes for us to check in. They left an envelope with the key in the drop box. We had no problems with our room but it would have been nice to to be welcomed; 8 pm seem pretty early to close on a Saturday night.
The beds were pretty soft, and the curtain was torn from the rings on once side so we could not close it completely.
But we were only there one night and it served our purpose.

The agent that helps us is awesome. He always helps get out favorite room.

Very nice property. A bit old but everything around this area is the same. Very clean though!
Restaurants are a walking distance so it's very convenient. Easy to park in front of your room.

Great location, would have liked a more dressed up shelter
Liked rocking chairs outside unit

we have been coming to Hillwinds for over 30 years and we are never disappointed. It's one of the cleanest motels ever stayed in anywhere.
It is not the Ritz Carlton nor is it meant to be. Is quaint and centered right near the center of Blowing Rock which is one of our places to go on our excursions from Charleston. Highly recommended it. 👩🍳👍

Fantastic location in downtown Blowing Rock...couldn't be better. The exteriors are quaint and fit in with the neighborhood. Inside, though, it's just tired and desperately needs a facelift...bearable for one night.

In great need of updating . The mattress was very worn and the window air conditioner was loud and had a musty smell.
We will not be back and can find updated accommodations in the same price range ( which was not cheap) in nearby competitive lodging.

We will definitely be back!

Bath toilet needs to be replaced.

Air conditioner was so loud it woke me up every hour

Liked the quaintness of this motel. I.e.the colonial features and the rocking chairs outside. My husband slept well but I didn’t like the mattress. The check-in clerk was pleasant but not that helpful. Great location!

The room was clean but there was no surface to put anything on other than a very small table, the bathroom is so tiny that you could scarcely turn around (I am barely 170 lbs), the A/C had to run continuously to keep the room cool (it was only in the 70s outside) and it did not take any humidity out of the air (miserably damp inside). The staff was pleasant and the property was very manicured and neat.

Tub did not drain while showering. AC turned on and off every few minutes, very noisy making it hard to sleep. While clean, complex is old.

Loved this spot! Blowing Rock is always a favorite!

When we arrived the faucet handle was broke as well the hot water handle in tub didnt work, after unpacking we had to move rooms. Once settled again ready to take shower. No hot water. So the staff was very pleasant, apologized and worked to fix the problem. But at that point we were late for dinner reservations. The interior of the rooms needed updating, bed was ok, for the price though in that area, which is fantastic, probably you pay for what you get. We were Dissatisfied with the "oh well attitude" checking out at the end of stay, we werent offered anything for our inconvenience. Just a so sorry, leave a review. We stayed 5 days. Definitely would look for another place with a little more up to date amenities. All in all in the grand scheme everything being in a very close walk made up for most of it.

It’s old place but it has been kept up.

It was a great location close by to the shops and restaurants on Main Street in Blowing Rock. We enjoyed walking there and back. We throughly enjoyed our stay!

Great location.
Friendly staff.
Very comfortable bed.
Would stay again.

When arriving, the office was closed however a staff member saw me walking away and was able to take care of me. Apparently during slow weeks. the Inn will leave a welcome package for guest checking in on the door. That aside, we had the Tarheal suite; the room was exceptionally clean, comfortable and relaxing. Also, the suite included a private balcony for sitting. Walking distance to shopping and restaurants was welcomed. A very pleasant two night stay.

We loved our stay! We came to Blowing Rock to celebrate our anniversary and had a great time. We enjoyed sitting out on the rocking chairs, liked the option to let a breeze into the room while still having privacy, and loved being close enough to walk around downtown. We will be back!

There was no hot water for the two days we stayed. They offered no concession. The mattresses were soft, worn and uncomfortable.
The sheets were thin and pilled. I would never stay there again or recommend this property.

Thin walls, noisy neighbors playing loud music & partying outside their room ruined stay. Dated bathroom. Bed was comfy. Would pay more & stay elsewhere next time. Overrated on line

Second time staying in the Tarhill Suite. Very clean, well stocked, and beautiful. Staff is always friendly. Hotel location is great and an easy walk to food and shopping. This is our go to when we visit BR.

We love visiting Blowing Rock. Our first weekend stay in this little town. Hillwinds Inn is a quaint and retro place. My husband and I felt like we stepping back in time when we walked in. Was within walking distance to all of shopping and dining.
There were some plumbing issues that we did let management know of. Mattresses could be replaced.
Overall would recommend!
