Great find in a nice village near Galway. Super friendly and accommodating staff. Good selections at the associated restaurant! Highly recommend! Tight parking.

I was a bit confused when first pulling up during check in hours. I wasn’t sure which building to go into. They had closed up early. I finally asked a worker that was leaving for the day, where I should go. And she told me that the pizzeria could help me. I turned around to head toward that and a nice fellow (Jeremy?) was sweeping the sidewalk and greeted me by name, knowing I was probably the last to check in, and someone told him I would be arriving at some point. Other than that. The staff was kind to explain and show me where I could park and enter and exit the building. The parking lot was through a very tight passage way behind the building. But it was perfect nonetheless! Had we been up to walking more we may have taken the train to Galway, but instead we self drove from Athenry and explored Portumna and surrounding more rural areas. It was one of the most magical times we had. Found a castle and the guy that lived in it invited us in for tea. That might not have been as easy to do if we stayed anywhere other than The old Barracks. We tried a late night takeaway place around the corner and it was just delicious kababs. The pizzeria was amazingly good too!!! Wood fired deliciousness!

The room was good, but there was only a small wardrobe for storage, no nightstands, no place other than the beds to sit on. The small chest held extra pillows, the drawer information about the B and B. And it stuck badly. The staff were wonderful.

We loved this hotel room! The room was huge and the bathroom was massive! It also had parking behind, which was very convenient. The best thing was the delicious breakfast across the street! Strongly recommend The Lodge at the Old Barracks.

My family's stay here was fantastic! Rooms were a bit warm but they did supply a fan to help with that. They also left us a few sweets in our room which was a nice touch. The staff was so kind and the breakfast here was absolutely phenomenal. I'm suddenly a huge fan of chia pudding! Overall a really great stay and just a short 30 min into Galway which is what my family wanted. Such a cute, quaint town.

It was amazing! Scott was super helpful and upgraded us (thank you), and suggested places for us to visit. Darragh too, he was welcoming and helped bring up our luggage.
It's only a short walk to the train station and a 20 minute train ride to Galway. Otherwise, free parking. Plus, we drove to Dublin easily to the airport.
We ate at the cafe and restaurant and all had high quality, excellent choice of food, with excellent table service.
We had a good walk around Athenry too, what an historical place!
Definitely recommend staying here, rather than in Galway.

This was a nice room for a short stop off on our trip. The room was a little small so the price was comparatively a little high, however you had the covenience of being within walking distance of everything as you are in the middle of the township.

Athenry was a happy surprise for us and The lodge at Old Barracks was the hub of the town. Breakfast was good. Room was a bit hot, but staff was nice and it was a great location.

Everyone who works there seems to love there job and it shows. From management to the staff they go overboard to make sure everything you may need you have.

We loved this place. The staff were all so friendly and accommodating. We chose it as a home base to explore the Galway area. We only graded down to a 4 because of the challenging parking situation (very narrow entry alley and the limited number of parking spots) and no elevator (we had a lot of luggage amongst the 5 of us). The rooms were very comfortable, bathrooms very updated and modern. Breakfast across the way at their affiliated restaurant was outstanding. Be aware they do not open for breakfast until 8:30, if you have an early appointment. The pizza restaurant (also affiliated, we think) was also exceptional after a long day of exploring.

Best breakfast ever, the place is beautiful and the staff were amazing. Loved it, the best from a long trip where we stayed in very nice hotels.

The check in experience was exceptional. After contacting the “front desk”, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. The proprietor acted like we were a part of the family. The room was on the second level and two narrow stairs lead up the a very comfortable room. The restaurant staff recommended a pub for an after dinner pint. A hot breakfast was included with our stay. A quaint little town.

We were only in Athenry for one night and left after breakfast, so I can’t speak much about the surrounding area. The Old Barracks Lodge was charming though and the food was delicious. We ate dinner at the pizza place upon arrival and enjoyed a delicious breakfast before leaving. Pastries from the bakery were left at our bedside, which was a sweet touch! The room was clean and comfortable. I’d stay here again for sure.

Cozy, comfortable and clean room with a pizza restaurant and bakery downstairs, parking in the back, and breakfast at their cafe across the street. We stayed here so we could easily drive up to Galway for the day and then get out to the Cliffs of Moher next morning as early as possible. Checked off all our boxes.

Such a cute lodge and the included breakfast was so good. The pizzeria nearby was a hit for us as well.
Thank you to Scott for making himself and his staff available for a later check in as we had some car issues that delayed us. They responded promptly and the check in staff was awesome! Would highly recommend.
You definitely get your money worth at this location.

The staff was super nice and we had a blast. The room was clean, warm and very comfortable, with some small cake at our arrival.
We ate at the restaurant and it was really good, the breakfast was too. They had milk alternative for our son and everything was great.
