Laon is a medieval town, nicknamed Belle Ile en Terre by Victor Hugo, or the Carcassonne of the North, or "The Crowned Mountain". The house is at the foot of the hill, and the plateau, surrounded by 8 km of intact ramparts, can be reached directly by foot in 15 minutes.
