The history of the place and the owner's dedication and commitment to the renovation of the hotel
Restaurant was open only on weekends for dinner and we would have liked to taste the food since the breakfast offered was so good.
4.5
The historic nature of the whole place. It was beautiful and so well done! It was absolutely amazing everywhere you look! The beds were so comfortable, and the added antiques to the rooms were so neat!
Absolutely nothing. The entire experience was completely above and beyond!

Very comfortable and welcoming

Period rooms filled with antiques and awesome pictures and furniture, set in an 1800s building filled with charm and elegance.
There was nothing we didn't like. The stairs is a bit challenging for us seniors carrying luggage.

Excellent food. Really enjoyed the use of the main dining room and the unrushed atmosphere. Gary did EVERYTHING to make us comfortable and well taken care of.
While we understand the difficulties of renovating a historic building, the one amenity that was lacking was a lift. Our mobility challenged traveling companion could not visit the charming sitting room on the 3rd floor to visit, and it was difficult after being on the road for 2 weeks to have to carry heavy suitcases up the stairs to our suite.
Also with the lack of places to eat in Oberlin, it would have been nice if the hotel had supper service every night, as your chef was excellent.

The Innkeeper was amazing and the breakfast was the BEST!
Staying here is an annual treat for us. It is like staying in a time machine only quiet and comfortable.

We needed to request an earlier than usual breakfast so we could get on the road at an early hour. The owner went above and beyond to ensure we had an excellent breakfast prepared 30 minutes early. Perfectly cooked eggs and sausage along with perfectly ripe cantaloupe & watermelon along with a delicious muffin. The coffee cups stayed full and the hot tea by Stash was spot on (one of my favorite brands!).
I should have asked in advance where we should have parked and what entrance to use to check in. It would have made the process a bit easier.

The historic building is wonderful.

The Aesthetic, and collation between rooms was superb. The staff was oh so wonderfully polite. The price range was amazing and very affordable. The rooms themeslves were large and well ventilated. The history and value of the building was interesting and wonderful to read about. The breakfast was well balanced.
The only one single thing, was our hot water was not working. But we worked it out anyway.

Beautiful historic property with excellent proprietor. Centrally located in a quaint, friendly midwestern town, rich in history.
There’s honestly nothing we weren’t pleased with. We wished we had more time to atay.

The breakfast was perfection.

We were greeted by Gary, the owner and he made us feel very welcome and was very friendly. We had a special needs relative (wheelchair bound) and Gary assured us that he was welcome to visit and made him feel very welcome. Gary included him to visit us for breakfast the next morning. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling who appreciates great comfort and exceptional care.
Well, it rained. But I guess Gary was not the one to control that. LOL

The breakfast was wonderful. Loved the room and the entire building was just amazing. Our host was very friendly and helpful. Loved looking the pictures and the history.
The downtown is very picturesque, but not a lot of places to eat.
4.5
Lovingly restored with little expense spared when it was done in 1996. Wonderful antiques throughout. The “coach house” is a newer 2-story attached building but we did not see those rooms. Dining room downstairs in what was the main hall of the bank.
We were between heating and a/c weather so neither was on and it got a bit stuffy.

Charming, historic hotel has a lot of character! The restaurant is very convenient.
Occassional street noise

This place is filled with charm. It is the kind of place I love to stay in because it has a story. The propieter Garry was the best part...a wonderfully nice man.

great breakfast. nice old property but you have to realize you are not going to get all the features you are used to, like an elevator. staff of one was excellent, perhaps the best i've ever had. like staying in an antique shop with an old fashioned brick street just outside.

We loved the historical presence in the whole building. The antiquities made it feel amazing. It was nice and quiet and well worth the money!
A later breakfast hour would have been great.
