We enjoyed our stay. The plus are the location- close to water, cute house, restaurants, marketIt and bus stops in 5 mins walking. Enjoyed getting up and going for quick swim in harbour before Rest got up, and walk to market along coast. You feel like you live in the area! The balcony with side view to water and front view over a little park and church cute. The old touches of glass doors, old style furniture of beds and wooden floors gave unique cozy feel. Still cleanliness could've been a bit better. e.g. Walls in kitchen, edges in shower, but it was ok. Bathroom muffy smelling. We also had difficulty with mosquitoes. Really needed to shut down Doors and windows in afternoon and evening to avoid being eaten and not hear the traffic from street behind. Got into a rhythm about it though. Couch not supper comfortable (had Video evening due to rain) and bunk beds short in length which was not great for my pre-teens. Overall no major regrets - good price and location rate. Just note it is on 4th floor.

We spent one week mid august in the appartment with my familly (1 couple, 1 six year old girl and one baby boy). The appartment is ok for a familly but except on the main bedroom, beds are for children.
The appartment is indeed 30 meters from the beach which is very convenient. However, the appartment is also very close to the main road and therefore very noisy during the night.
We were also very surprised to see that the appartment was just above the parking for garbage truck (small, but they start working at 6:30)
In August it is very difficult to park in this area, so it is more convenient to use buses and trains or to ask if it is possible to rent in a box in addition.
Except all of this, the place is charming, the appartment, beach is very beautiful (but crowded).

Ideal location
We are a family of 4. 2 Teenage girls. The apartment was great and had all the basic equipment you need. Bathroom is really good with a fab shower. I would have given it a 4 star rating if it were not for the lack of air- conditioning, only fans. Middle of July made it too hot to sleep.
Having said that I would definitely recommend this apartment as the location is ideal for nearby Portofino, Rapallo and Santa Margherita. Beach is also extremely close. Mrs Lorenza was great , thanks .

We had a great holiday time there with two families and two young kids. The appartment is clean and everything you need you will find. When you leave the appartment you are directly on the beach. In the evening you can sit on the balcony and have a glass of wine with a nice view to the sea. Two minutes walk and you will find a great Pizzeria. The only thing: parking is a bit difficult. No parking at the appartment - you need to walk. But this is normal in that region. Thanks a lot for all!

Great location, beautiful property, and a very happy stay.
The beach is beautiful and the location is fabulous.
There are improvements that would enhance the apartment - unfortunately we had no wireless and some beach towels would have been great.
The property agent, Mrs Lorenza, was magnificent and both friendly and helpful. Mrs Lorenza is a major highlight.
And a map of the walking instructions to Santa Margherita would be useful for future guests. We used Google Maps to follow. Forever review and it is so close but would be better with a map.
Overall - a great holiday.

San Michel is a perfect location to visit both Santa Margheretta and Portofino. While the traffic is busy near the highway, the apartment is surprisingly quiet. It is especially quiet in the bedroom. The apartment has been recently remodeled and the bathroom and kitchen are exceptionally modern and high quality. Very comfortable large bed. The entire apartment is very clean and well maintained. There are a few flights of stairs to get to the apartment from the ground floor. The main lounge area, while bright and useful, would benefit from a couple of very comfortable easy chairs for reading or relaxing. Very nice place that I would recommend.

The house was just what we wanted: old fashion Italy combined with nowadays have-to-have's (shower, dish-washer, washing machine, clean). Okay, there is no parking area nearby the house to unpack our suitcases which ment that we had to carry them a long way. And the appartement was on the 4th floor without lift... But this only was a problem the day we arrived and the day we left. Also there were not to much kitchen things like glases. But for the rest... we loved it. It was so charming old fashioned and yet shops and bus stops nearby. Beach reachable in 10 meters without crossing a street. Great shower, balcony with view on the sea and on a lovely church. We had a fantastic week. And we would come back there again. It felt very cosy.

a traditional Italian seaside holiday
The description was precisely accurate, but in fact cannot convey the charming nature of this unit. Although it is separated from the waterfront by a quiet lane and another tier of traditional apartments, the setting of this apartment is still idyllic, on the end of a building facing onto a park, with balconies on two sides and additional windows on the third side. The view lines are into a forested park as well over a portion of the beach. The facilities were impeccably clean, very well-maintained, and very comfortable for my family of six.
The detailed instructions for arrival provided by Signore D'Andrea were helpful. His designate, Signora Lorenza, acted as property manager, and was available every day for every sort of practical advice relating to the property and to the town. My communications with her were in my somewhat halting Italian. The financial arrangments all went as anticipated.
San Michele is sandwiched between Rapallo and Santa Margherita; both town centres can be reached by a walk of less than half an hour. San Michele also has a busy road running through the centre of it; however, it still has the feeling of a traditional small Italian town, including a few, friendly restaurants and small shops. Walking along the main road to Santa Margherita is somewhat unpleasant because of the speed of the traffic and the narrowness of the road; however, we found a quiet, scenic alternative from this property to S. Margherita as follows: up the steps to Chiesa S. Michele; back down the driveway of the church, which returns to the main highway; left along the highway about 50 meters, crossing the road when there is an opportunity; take the first right up the hill on V. Costantino Nigra; then the first left and further up the hill on V. Gimelli; and then the first left again down the hill on Salita Banchi to the region of the S. Margherita train station.
There are a ton of great restaurants, as well as all of the amenities of a large town, in S. Margherita, and the continued walk to Portofino is spectacular. You can always take a boat back from there to S. Margherita if you get tired. On two separate stays I have found people in the hospitality industry in Rapallo, San Michele and S. Margherita to be exceptionally friendly and helpful.
I would recommend this unit and San Michele / Santa Margherita without reservation to a friend or relative interested in a vacation within a developed portion of the Italian coastline.

Pretty but loud in summer
Sorry my english is very bad but I try it -The flat was beautiful-the description is correct and the beach(pebbles!no sand) very near-but it is in summer so full that you have Problems to got a place and its very very loud because: too many people and the Italiens love to speak very loud and they have all the time a mobilphone in the hand -even in the water! And behind the flat is the street -much trafic the whole time. Therefore it was not relaxing-perhaps it`s better in autumn. The contact with the owner was good and the flat was clean.Parking is a great problem and in summer you`ve got problems with mosquitos. The restaurant NAVE is not recommandable-the food was not good but very expensive-we prefer to cook or to walk to Rapallo there are some good restaurants and bars.

Excellent Holiday Rental
We very much enjoyed our short holiday in San Michele di Pagana. The apartment was great - simple but well laid out and it certainly had everything we needed for 2 people. The location is good - we liked being away from the busy road and close to the beach. This part of the village feels peaceful - there are lots of trees and shrubs around as well as the sea on your doorstep. We enjoyed the local feel of the place - it did not feel at all touristy. Everyone was friendly and Mrs Lorenza in the agency could not have been kinder or more helpful. We enjoyed all the local activity at the boat yard, the rowing club and generally on the beach and on the lovely walk around to the next bay. The local eating places were fine. We also found it an easy walk into Rapallo where there are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. The cable car trip up to Montallegro is also to be recommended. Susan & Ross, Dublin, Ireland

Big family with dog at the end of summer
We were there in 5 persons (2 parents and 3 kids: 10,12, 14 years old) wit our dog. The apartment is in a building placed in second line from beach, with direct view on see. It was renovated short time ago. Very comfortable for 5-6 person. Clean with marvelous shower. Fully quipped. In distance of 200-300 m there are: 2 restaurants (Mare Blue, La Nave), 2 diving centre, 2 groceries, private beach. I recommend: public beach just in front of building (cleaner water, rocky bottom), Mare Blue restaurant (I appreciated food, service, and possibility to talked with the owner - real Italian atmosphere), and Tortuga diving centre (my kinds had real fun diving first time in their lives, I was also very satisfied), grocery accessible from street only (not this one which can be also accessible from beach) - is cheaper.
For bigger shopping it is worth to go by car to Rapallo.
Try local wine, e.g. rose from Portofino.
We had great time. I regret that only 1 week.

Fantastic Apartment!
We just got back from 7 days staying in this apartment and it is a wonderful place to stay. The owner speaks excellent English and is very easy to work with. The room is easy to book and the owner provided us excellent directions to get to the place.
Some notes about the flat:
1) The flat is situated on the 3rd floor of a charming buiding that is very close to the beach. The flat seemed to be freshly remodeled with a new shower that is outstanding! (If you’ve just spent two weeks travelling Europe and are in desperate need of a great shower, this is the place for you).
We had 4 adults and 2 small children and there was plenty of room. The kitchen is small but works fine for preparing great meals.
2) Rapallo: It’s about a 20 minute walk from the flat into Rapallo where you can find multiple nice café’s, restaurants and coffee bars. You can also catch the train or Ferries to Cinqe Terre.
3) S. Margherita: It’s about a 10 minute walk into S. Margherita but about 300 meters of that walk is done in pure terror because there are no sidewalks and you are “On The Road” with tour busses, scooters and cars that are all competing for the same patch of road at high speed. If you are pushing a stroller as we were I would strongly recommend you walk to Rapallo (Sidewalks all the way). That being said, we actually preferred S. Margherita because it is smaller, quieter, and more quaint.
4) Food: There isn’t much near the flat but the handful of beach bars are nice and have good cold beer. There are restaurants in S. Margherita and Rapallo but the best food we found was at the Mare Blu restaurant which is about 300 Meters from the flat. The food is outstanding, the wine selection is divine and the desserts are to die for. The owner, Mario, is truly an exceptional host and we ate there on several occasions.
5) Parking: as noted by other commenters, parking is a bit of a challenge. However there is a parking area about 400 Meters or so from the flat (past the Mare Blu Restaurant, under the train bridge and up the hill a bit) and that worked out great for us.
6) Internet Access: Just a bit of warning for anyone who needs to stay in contact with work or family: There is no internet at the flat. You might be able to find a wifi hotspot in Rapallo or purchase access from a hotel in Rapallo or S. Margherita.
Overall, we had a great stay at this apartment and would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Charming flat, very good located
Me and my family enyoied our stay very much in San Michele di Pagana. You can easely walk to Rapallo and Santa Margeritha Ligure. It's lovely to walk to Portofino or other nice places. Also Genova is very near and interesting, and it only takes you about 20 Min. by train to get there. The flat is very charming and clean and everything you need is there. You have two nice balconys where you can drink a glass of wine in the evening sun. Everything worked out very well. We can recommand the flat to familys and couples. The only thing we did not like was the street behind the flat, where a lot of cars drive through all the time, but on the other side you have the seaside just in front of the flat which is really lovely!!!
4.3
very nice
Very nice flat, clean, new bathroom, good shower, near to the beach, we had an excellent time. San michele is rather small, not a lot to do there and quiet at night, good for families with children.
4.3
Wonderful apartment.
We (4 adults) spent one week at this apartment and loved it. It is spacious enough for 6 adults, provided the kitchen table is pulled out a bit to eat. There is a working dishwasher and washing machine which is useful. Plenty of crockery etc. for cooking, nice, modern kitchen. Bathroom just redone (April 2010) and very modern and clean.
Two balconies (one with view to beach and bay and a good size).
The apartment is on the third floor of a building just across from a beach and positioned equidistant (10-15 minute walk) between Rapallo and Santa Margherita Ligure (though to walk to the latter requires sharing a portion of the road with motorists and may not be to everyone's taste).
We cannot comment on the restaurants nearby as we bought locally and cooked in every night (supermarket in Rapallo).
As the building does not front onto a street, unloading the baggage is a tricky affair if arriving by car. We had to pull into a driveway just past the sidewalk turn-off to the apartment, unload, and then repark. We parked one day illegally and then reparked not far from the apartment (7 minutes walk) for free in a public lot the entire week. Ask Carlo (the owner) about the availability of this parking lot in the summer months.
All in all we would recommend the apartment to friends and the owner was very responsive for minor issues in advance and throughout our stay.
4.3
Appartment in nice location next to the beach
The appartment was nice with an average standard suitable for friends or families. The best thing about it was its location almost next to the beach. It was no parking space near by so that was quite a challenge and we ended up by travelling by bus during our stay.
4.3
Great apartment in great place
We had a really nice stay in this apartment. It's located almost directly to the beach, quite silent, in a very nice surrounding with nice old houses. There is plenty of room for a family, it's well furmished and equiped.
There's a nice but not cheap restaurant nearby, you can reach Rapallo in a 15 minutes walk.
It's not possible to leave the car close to the flat, it has to be left on a public parking in the village (10 minutes walk) but it's possible to unload the luggage across the street.
Overall, one of the nicest apatrments we have ever seen for a reasonable price.
4.3
Wow!
We (2 adults, 2 children) spent a fabulous week here. Apartment spotless and extremely well kitted out. Everything we needed was provided allowing us to travel with hand-luggage only. Excellent transport links. A great location just off the shoreline, nearby bar and restaurant. 10 min walk to Rapallo where one can get the boat to Portofino, both with excellent restaurants. Lovely people to greet us.
A truly hassle-free hide-away. We were sorry to leave.

Wonderful appartment close to the ocean
Me and my family had a wonderful stay in the small village of San Michele di Pagana. A perfect appartment for the family, swimming just arround the corner, 2 restaurants in close distance. Walking distance to Rapallo and busses easy to go whith either to Rapallo and the trains to Cinque terre or to Santa Margherita/Portofino. Everything worked out well whith the appartment and landlord. Me and my family are very satified with our holiday in Italy.
