About this house rental

This property is located in the charming "Old Town District" of Salobreña, nestled among narrow streets and traditional Spanish townhouses, at the foot of the stairs that lead up to the entrance of the castle.
Four restaurants and bars and two small groceries within a few minutes walk of the house, as they are the original town square and the town museum. The beach is only a 15-minute walk. And if you do not want to walk, there is a bus that takes riders up and down the hill every day but Sunday.

The house has been renovated in an eclectic style that tastefully combines rustic elements with modern ones. Decoration combines original elements and artisanal furniture and materials from Spain, India, and Mongolia. Its many windows and skylights provide lots of light throughout the house.

There is a rooftop terrace where you can relax with your morning coffee and enjoy a splendid view of the church bell tower. Overall, it is an ideal place to stay if you want to stay in the Old Town of Salobrena.

The house features a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, electric cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, and lots of counter space), washing machine, TV, satellite, stereo, radio, books, DVDs, and a few board games. There are two bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed, plus a sofa-bed, all of which accommodates up to five guests.

Access to the master bedroom is via spiral staircase off the living room; it's on the first floor. The guest bedroom is on the bottom floor of the dining area.

There are two bathrooms: one is off the kitchen / dining area, which is very large with two sinks, toilet and bidet, a shower that accommodates two, and one enormous bathtub; the second is attached to the master bedroom and has two sinks and a sleek, free-standing bathtub.

There is a living room with a functioning fireplace, and a dining room that seats six.

Access to the terrace can be had in two ways; via spiral staircase in the kitchen, or via the masterbedroom.

Other highlights

Salobreña has ample beach front, all of it open to the public. It is divided in two by El Peñon rock, a large outcrop of rock that provides a relaxing place for a stroll or a contemplative place to sit and gaze out at the sea. All along the beach are beachside restaurants ("chiringuitos"), popular restaurants and bars that provide the freshest seafood imaginable (most of that caught that morning or the day before). If not in the mood for seafood, they also serve grilled meats.

There are a number of destinations to check out while staying in Salobrena. Granada with the Alhambra, its famous Arab Quarter (the Albaicin), and its grand cathedral, which houses the burial plots of Isabella Catolica and her husband, King Ferdinand, is but a 50-minute drive by car. The city of Motril, which provides more extensive shopping and live flamenco, is only four km away. The Alpujarras, the string of villages on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevadas, renowned for its jamon, artisanal products, flea markets (Orgiva), and spas (Lanjaron), and made famous by the English writer Gerald Brennan, is 30 minutes to an hour away, depending on which towns you want to visit. Nerja, known as "The Balcony," is a scenic town on the Costa del Sol. In addition to restaurants, shops, and buggy rides, its famous caves are a destination unto themselves. Many of the towns along the coast are worth visiting, however, you will find that unlike Salobrena, most suffer from being overbuilt with high-rises and condos, an overabundance of non-Spaniards who have some degree spoiled their authentic nature and feel of Spanish towns. That is not the case with Salobrena, which is why we love our town so much. Oh, and right next door, an easy walk down the beach, is the village of La Caleta, which until recently was home to Europe's last sugar cane factory, where one of the finest rumsin the world is still made.

Access to both the old coastal highway (slower, more scenic) and the major coastal highway (faster) just five minutes or so from the house.

The international airport in Malaga is one and a half hours by car; two and a half by bus. Granada also has an airport, but only a few airlines operate there, and virtually all flights to Madrid or Barcelona. Salobreña has a bus station with regular services to all neighboring towns.

It is very easy and cheap to rent a car in Malaga (we recommend Malaga Car). We do NOT recommend "hiring" from the airport! If you need to get a taxi to go to Salobreña from airport, we would be happy to recommend one.

For your safety, a first aid kit is provided.
