About this cottage rental
Bertie Cottage can comfortably sleep six people. The cottage is surprisingly spacious and is tastefully decorated to a high standard, with modern furnishings with hints of tartan and Harris Tweed.
There are two good-sized upstairs bedrooms, one king-size and one double bed each with a lovely view to Craig Choillich Hill to the south of Ballater. Downstairs there is a large twin-bedded room which has it's own en-suite shower room. Each bedroom has a wardrobe and plenty of storage space. There is a hairdryer and all linen and towels are provided.
Downstairs there is a cosy lounge with two comfortable sofas, a "favourite armchair" and a large footstool with plenty of cushions for your comfort. The woodburning stove is perfect to nestle up to after a day outdoors. There is a Smart TV, DVD player with a selection of DVDs, Blaupunkt bluetooth speaker and games and puzzles for all ages.
From the lounge you enter a bright well-equipped kitchen with views to the garden and Craigendarroch Hill beyond. There is a fridge-freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and Nespresso coffee machine.
The separate dining room is the perfect room to sit and enjoy a leisurely breakfast with views to Craigendarrioch Hill or to relax over an evening meal and plan the next days activities.
The dining room opens out onto a large enclosed deck with a seating area and a separate BBQ area, perfect for outdoor dining. Behind the decking there is some grass with a washing line and further planting. The garden is a fabulous suntrap, the sun can be enjoyed from early morning to the last rays in the evening. There is access to a large lockable shed - perfect for guests to store bikes or golf clubs etc.
There is on-street parking directly outside the cottage.
Bertie Cottage is located in the centre of the Victorian village of Ballater and has all the amenities of the village on the doorstep. Ballater has many shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries to enjoy, most notably the recently refurbished Old Royal Station minutes from the cottage.
From the cottage there are many walks to explore - from the paths along the river, the recently opened Seven Bridges Walk and of course Craigendarroch Hill with it's spectacular views of Ballater and Lochnagar.
Ballater is just 7km from Balmoral Castle and Estate, the Royal Family's Scottish holiday home since 1852.
Ballater and Royal Deeside has the most stunning scenery and is an ideal base for hill-walking, cycling, fishing, golfing and many more outdoor pursuits.

Our stay at Bertie Cottage could hardly have been better. We love Ballater, especially the Golf Road area, and this property was first class: comfortable, clean and nicely situated. Would go there again in a flash. The heating worked without my really understanding it, as did the TV. Loved it.

We loved Bertie’s
Thank you so much for allowing us to spend the week at Bertie’s. We had hoped for some skiing but alas the slopes weren’t open, however the area is so fabulous we had a brilliant time anyway, lots of walking in the surrounding mountains and lochs.
Ballater is a lovely village friendly people and some great shops especially for food , everything you need.
The cottage is so comfortable warm and homely and very well equipped, just wished we could stay longer.

Fabulous Cottage.
Bertie Cottage is a real gem. Cosy, homely and in a fabulous location, being handy for everything and yet peaceful and quiet.
On arrival, there was a lovely loaf of local bakery bread waiting for us, along with teabags, coffee, sugar and a dish of chocolates. Such a thoughtful touch - thank you Catriona.
The cottage itself was immaculately clean and tastefully decorated and really felt like a home from home. The log burning stove was lovely to come back to after a day of hiking and there was a good supply of logs and kindling ready for us.
We all slept well, thanks to the very comfortable beds and made full use of the corner bath - especially after climbing Lochnagar! Our dog loved his holiday and enjoyed playing in the garden, which was safe and secure and on a sunny day, was a lovely little sun trap. A wonderful holiday and we hope to visit again!

Loved Bertie Cottage.... beautiful cottage, well equipped, in a very central location with easy parking and a shed for bikes. The garden was a real sun trap and much bigger than it looks in the pictures! Despite being so close to the village square it was very quiet. Definetly one to come back to!

Family Reunion
Fantastic property in an ideal location. Walking distance to all amenities. Bedrooms great size, ample living facilities everything you possibly needed in the kitchen with lovely dining room attached. Although not the time of year to use the decking, in the summer it would be superb! We had a great time & will certainly use this property again & recommend to friends & family.

Beautiful cottage, tastefully decorated, real homely feel and very comfortable for our family of 5.
Thank you so much Catriona for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage. It was very spacious and comfortable for our family of 5, the beds are really comfy, the linen crisp and fresh. The log burner is so cosy, lovely end to a day walking miles snuggling in the lounge with the fire on!
Upon our arrival, Catriona had kindly left some milk in the fridge and a loaf of bread out for us - very much appreciated after a long journey there. Little personal touches like this made for a great host, you have really thought of everything!
Ballater is a beautiful area, with lots to see and do right on your doorstep. We enjoyed the local walks and sights, a great base with lots of lovely cafes and places to eat. The co-op is handy and just up the road from the cottage.
We have had a fantastic week and hope to return one day.

Fantastic Festive Furlough!
We have recently returned from an excellent trip to Ballater to celebrate the start of 2019. This was not our first visit to Bertie Cottage, so we knew what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised by the festive decorations and additional finishing touches added by Catriona and Kevin since our last trip. Well located within the village and very comfortable, Bertie Cottage provides visitors a real home from home and, for us, the welcome sight of the glowing wood burning stove adds to that rural living feeling on a cold winter’s night.
This well-appointed, clean and cosy country cottage makes for an extremely pleasurable visit to our favourite Aberdeenshire village.

Bertie Cottage is a real gem. Ideal for our family of five with all home comforts provided. We have recently had the pleasure of an autumnal week-end break in Ballater where the weather outside was crisp and chilly but the cottage lovely and cozy; a welcome sight after a day outside enjoying country pursuits. Catriona and Kevin have put a lot of effort into making sure that their guests have all the facilities and information required for a first class self catering holiday - thank you. Highly recommended.
