About this house rental
Relax, unwind and enjoy your time at Trout Lodge; a warm, comfortable 3 bedroom, 2 storied, fully self contained home that comfortably accommodates up to 6 people.
Trout Lodge has two double bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom has a queen slat bed, a TV and a bush view. The second room has a double bed and views of the lake and mountain. A lovely log fire in the upstairs lounge quickly & effectively heats the whole house. We have a number of radiator heaters available also and fans for Summer. All beds in winter (except the sofa bed)have electric blankets on them.
Downstairs you will find a second living area with a couch, a sofa bed (green) and dining table. In this area there is a TV which accesses Netflix and there's lots of DVD's available to entertain the children, a fridge, microwave plus a jug and toaster. A second bathroom is off this area as is the bunk room.
Trout Lodge sits proudly on a large unfenced section, & there's plenty of room for the children to run around and play & lots of space to pitch a tent or park a boat.
From the deck, dining and lounge, there are spectacular panoramic views of Mt Tarawera, Lake Tarawera and the surrounding bush. The sunrises and sunsets can be absolutely stunning. There's wonderful wildlife to keep you entertained - tui, kereru, fantail, quail & the odd rabbit that occasionally comes for a visit. There is a BBQ, table and chairs on the deck.
If you are considering bringing your furry family member with you PLEASE LET US KNOW FIRST what you have. We reserve the right to decline your furry family member. If they do come to Trout Lodge, please don't allow them on the furniture (including the beds) please ensure all their toileting is outside and please pick up all their deposits before you leave. Thankyou!
Trout Lodge is within easy walking distance to the lake where the swimming is wonderful and the fishing (license required) is great. We have 2 kayaks available with a trolley and of course the all important life jackets so please use. It's a short distance to Bay View or Rangiuru Bay to launch your boat. There's a great playground for the kids at Rangiuru Bay too!
Getting into central Rotorua, where there is much to see and do, takes 20 minutes along a well sealed road. Between Trout Lodge and Rotorua there are some fantastic easy & more challenging local hikes. There are also numerous tracks for mountain biking. Google 'Whakarewarewa Mountain Bike Park Rotorua' to check out your choices. The Landing (super café/restaurant) is off Tarawera Rd and The Buried Village (another great café and museum) you can't miss as you come and go. The crystal clear Blue and Green Lakes are worth a stop and maybe a swim. The Redwood Forest is well known for its magnificent stand of Californian Coast Redwoods and make sure you visit the Redwoods at night as the lights are quite spectacular. Many guests also stay with us when attending a special function at The Black Barn, a spectacular venue again close to Trout Lodge.
So much to see and do and Trout Lodge has all you'd need for a memorable holiday, we'd love to share our piece of paradise with you!
Please note: For security purposes, one surveillance device is located outside on the roof which covers the main entrance/driveway to Trout Lodge.

We had a wonderful 4 days at Trout Lodge. Everything went smoothly and all information was easy to follow.
The lodge is in a lovely spot with great views, and lovely and peaceful with only plenty of birdsong.
We were lucky having beautiful weather.
Had been a long time since we had been to Rotorua. There has been a lot if updating. The waterfront is stunningly beautiful for walking.
Overall very enjoyable break.

Good stay at this property for myself with three kids.
Great to have the two living spaces.
Outside area is on a hill, so though grassy it isn't really 'usable'.
Boat parking was very tricky requiring reversing off of a 'main' road right on a junction and up a steep incline, but do-able if you have a couple of spotters looking and warning on-coming traffic. My boat is 7m on a trailer, and you definitely would not want to go any longer than that.
Convenient 4min drive to boat ramp.

Property was OK. More a house than a lodge. Guests shouldn’t be asked to bring extra toilet paper at the price paid per night.

A comfortable, clean and tidy home. Beautiful views of the lake from the deck. It was raining the whole weekend, but the view still beautiful, and we were cozy and dry.
Great place to get away from it all and have some peaceful downtime together as a family.
Thank you for a lovely stay.

Trout Lodge was such a peaceful place to stay. The view from the kitchen and deck was lovely - we loved watching everyone out on the lake fishing or waterskiing or just listening to all the bird calls in the bush surrounding the house. Would definitely stay there again. The whole house was beautifully furnished and so clean. Just a short 5 minute walk either left or right along the road took you to lake front reserves and short drive took you to a great cafe with lake front views and nice lake beaches for swimming. Lots of 'Mt Tarawera' history and geothermal places to visit and just a short 20 min drive back into Rotorua city. Perfect place to stay if you want to get away from it all and relax.

Great place with fantastic views and amenities. Boat trailer parking is awkward, which is common in places along this road.

Arriving to find festive decorations, even a Christmas tree, in the living area was very welcoming. Property itself was clean. The BBQ wasn’t but it had been made clear that guests need to clean after their own use. Cooking vessels tended to be a bit greasy which I suggest might have been due to either inadequate dishwash liquid or too low water temperature. Having to turn on the water cylinder heater on arrival would be an issue if one didn’t check in until late in the day

The property is a good size with plenty of room on both floors. The weather was atrocious the weekend we stayed, but the lodge was nice and cosy. The only disadvantage of the location was that there was no public access to the lake within easy walking distance. Also being bush, watch out for the pests and bugs, otherwise a great stay overall! Thank you Greg for the use of your bach.

Plenty of room for a family. This place had everything that we needed.
Only thing I would change is ask for directions to get the kayaks down to the lake

We stayed two nights for opening weekend of trout fishing. The house was very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. It was great to have the fire to dry out our gear as it rained all day on Saturday.

Lake Tarawera is picturesque with good access to the water to enjoy all water activities.
This property was secure and provided adequate sleeping arrangements for our family of 6.
During the hotter months fans are necessary in every bedroom as mosquitos don't enable open windows in the evening. Overall we would stay in this property again.

Owner's were really easy to deal with and communication was clear and they were very accommodating.
