About this house rental

Come away from it all....catch your breath...

Six miles from the bustle of Boothbay Harbor is a peaceful waterfront retreat, called Bold Colorful Life, set among rolling fields, meandering stone walls and richly colored perennial gardens........imagine a place that evokes your fondest memories....and brings your vacation dreams to bold colorful life....
The Antique Cape combines new convenience with its historical heritage, with an exterior wrap-around porch and dormers, and a private back deck with great views of the shady woodland, home of the reclusive Lady Slipper, the apple orchard and the Gallery Barn. Inside, the first floor holds a comfortable, fully-equipped kitchen, dining room and living Room, all set off with the original pumpkin pine flooring, and furnished with antiques. There is also a first floor bedroom, the Garnet which has a Full-sized bed, and private bath. The Garnet and living rooms face the courtyard, the Farmhouse and the river. A cozy computer nook at the top of the stairs also faces the courtyard and is one of the best spots to pick up the WiFli.
On the second floor are four additional bedrooms with three private baths. The Ruby Peridot suite, a Queen bed in the Ruby room, with a privacy-shaded French door leading into the Peridot, twin room, share the Ruby Peridot bath.
The Turquoise, with a Full oak sleigh-bed, facing across the Back River Road to nine acres of woodlands, also with private bath.
And the third, the Butterscotch Amber bedroom, with two twin beds, its own sitting room and with the unique bath with both clawfoot tub and shower.

Wake to birdsong in the apple trees and early morning fog on the Back River....then make yourself delicious coffee and a hearty, healthy breakfast in the fully-equipped kitchen in the recently renovated 1800s Cape.

Wander 15 acres of gardens and woodland trails....borrow a sit-on-top kayak to paddle with local seals....enjoy games, meet our friendly bald eagles and other critters.....watch the Maine painted turtles or listen to frogs on the freshwater pond......wander the park-like grounds.....enjoy our 'forest bathing' invitations on site...wander our Enchanted Trail and our Fairy Walk...take a cool dip or a sail on the river....

Refreshed, venture out into the Boothbay region to join a tour boat to see whales or puffins, or to go lobstering, shop, view our many art galleries, try some local restaurants and generally have a memorable visit. The Coastal Maine Botanical Garden is only 4 miles away! So is the world-class Boothbay Harbor Country Club golf course! Or try hiking at any of the 15 preserves within 10 miles of this home.

At the end of the day, imagine coming ‘home’ to a snack and drink on the wrap-around porch....a good book in the hammock.....a sunset through the windows....and a long, delicious sleep in one of your five lovely bedrooms with four private baths, colorful bedding, paddle fans, cable TV, WiFli.

Or come home to a peaceful evening in one of your five elegant bedrooms with five private baths, colorful bedding, paddle fans, cable TV, WiFli....in the Farmhouse across the courtyard.

Renewed again, live your bold and colorful life!
Both buildings (the charming historic Cape #325241 and the elegant Farmhouse #229721) are available year-round.

It's the perfect destination for a personal retreat, family or school reunion, wedding or other gathering event.

The grounds offer the beauty of the Maine woods along side the tidal river with many nooks to relax. The house would benefit from new furnishings.

I wanted to take a few moments to share a unique and rewarding experience we encountered at the Bold Colorful Life Inn in Boothbay, Maine. Fifteen acres of pristine forest, a shoreline of unmatched majesty, and an1850’s vintage home with period antiques adorned us. Our wonderful hostess, Melissa, took the time to meet us as we arrived and shared a friendly waive and an orientation that prepared us to enjoy every detail of this incredible place and region. The home offered every nuanced convenience while accentuating the holistic period of significant historical value. Whether guests enjoy kayaking, swimming, hiking, experiencing beautiful wildlife while wandering the forest, picking berries or simply exploring the region, it all awaits. Quiet, peace, rest and uninterrupted sleep were all added experiences we encountered, as our hostess even scheduled maintenance around our quiet times. Our stay was more than a rental, it was home and a fascinating home at that. Melissa’s 18 years personally caring for this incredibly beautiful site at one with nature, shows at every turn. Well done,Melissa. Thanks for everything. Wayne and family.

With the extraordinary number of house rules given to us by the owner we expected a clean well organized property but the owner did not confirm to her own rules. there were a dozen or so filthy mold ridden cups stacked in a basket under the coffee stand. There was a container on the kitchen island that contained utensils dirty with old grease . While cooking dinner on the outside grill the propane gas ran out after 6 minutes and everything needed to transferred into the kitchen oven. All outdoor seats had accumulated grime on them. The inside rooms were clean so it is a mystery how such unsanitary conditions went undetected in the kitchen and that the outside furniture was left uncleaned. I was able to reach the owner by phone once in 6 days but she did not return my other 3 calls. I would not return nor would I recommend anyone rent this property

We had a wonderful stay at Bold Colorful Life! From the moment we arrived to such a warm welcome from Melissa, we felt so relaxed. There is so much attention to detail and the amount of care that Melissa puts into the house and grounds is truly impressive. She gave us great recommendations for places to go and restaurants to eat. The location also can’t be beat. It is close to all of the attractions but in a wonderfully quiet place to relax at the end of a busy day. We enjoyed walking down to the river multiple times and exploring the other trails on the property as well. Thank you for a fantastic stay, Melissa! We will certainly be back.

We stayed here with various family members (college age, teen, tween, grandma, parents). We found the property to be relaxing and a nice place to gather. The fire pit was genius and we used it several times - a great way to end our evenings. The river and kayaks were a treat. The area once you're on the water is beautiful. Just beware that this is a river - there is no beach at the water to stand or relax on, and if you hit it at low tide, there is a lot of thick mud to contend with. The house is cozy (we stayed at the smaller Cape, and although we didn't see the inside of the farmhouse, that might be a better option for a bigger group). The house was perfectly clean. The location was great - just a 10 minute or so drive into Boothbay, a quick drive to the botanic gardens. We went somewhere every day, and it was centrally located for day trips to other towns and beaches. It was a nice place to come home to and relax at the ends of our days.

This is a lovely, historic home, set in the countryside but conveniently close enough to all the regional attractions. Very comfortable for us four women but it would also be perfect for a larger group.
