Conil de la Frontera: Conil is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Coast of Light. On it's 7 mile coast, different types of beaches can be found : open and extensive, small coves surrounded by cliffs. Some of the characteristics of rural southern Spain can be perceived through rich agricultural small holdings. The architecture is alive reflecting fishing, trade, and the religious side of the town, thanks to it's preservation the town has been declared a historical artistic monument. Conil is rich in traditions, it produces craft work, especially pottery. The gastronomy is abundant from the fertile fishing and farming grounds.
Vejer de la Frontera: This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful towns, not only in Andalusia, but in Spain. It has been declared an historical artistic monument, and was awarded the'Premio Nacional de Embellecimiento'. Thanks to it's privileged location, on a hill 190 meters above sea level, it offers an amazing view of the surrounding countryside. The twisty narrow streets are a walk through the rich and varied history of this town. Particularly prominent is the influence of the Arabs who held the town for 593 years.
Cape Trafalgar and Zahora: From the famous lighthouse of Cape Trafalgar direction north-east you arrive at the beautiful white sand beach of Zahora. Because of the lagoons formed at low tide, makes this a popular beach for families with small children. Lots of fun can be had snorkeling in the crystalline waters. This area is frequented mainly by nature lovers who come to enjoy the beauty and tranquility it has to offer.

What a fantastic stay we had at Juan's lovely cottage! Built and decorated with love.
Set in a private, walled garden, only ''disturbed'' by the sound of animals all around you.
The town and beach of El Palmar is only a small walk away.
Specially in this period of the year, autumn, it is a very relaxing place to be. Wide surfing beach, supermarket, brilliant butcher and don't forget to pick up your fresh cake at restaurant El Cartero.
We will be back!

Heerlijk vakantiehuis nabij geweldig strand
Aanrader!

This was our second year staying as guests of Juan Antonio Cruzado and we have already booked a third. You could therefore say enough said!It suits us perfectly as we enjoy self catering and shopping at the local butcher and fish shop and going to the splendid market in Barbate for vegetables, where you can also sneak in some indulgent churros with your morning coffee. The cortijo is charming and very comfortable for 2 ( 2). The location is perfect for walking to the low rise coastal resort of El Palmar, with its fabulous beach stretching from Cape Trafalgar to Conil de la Frontera, every inch of which we have walked on one trip or another. The property is well maintained and you will never run out of eggs, which are a splendid feature of Juan Antonios relaxed but perfectly attentive customer service. We have recommended the cortijo to people and indeed some friends of ours, who have their own property in Spain, were much taken with it when they came to stay one night, including an especially magical sunset at a nearby beach bar.We are especially fond of Gurugu Chiringuito on the beach, Restaurante El Alferez - the closest restaurant to the cortijo and Venta El Toro at Santa Lucia, just beneath Vejer de la Frontera.

Lovely place
The garden and pool are exceptionally nice. An enclosed space, well cared for and surrounded by trees full of bird song. The house is full of character with artistic touches all around. We were four adults, which in retrospect was not ideal as one of the bedrooms is open plan with the communal area and gave little privacy, and also has no storage space for clothes. Would be better for two adults with children.

Perfect oasis
Beautiful rustic cottage in an oasis close to the beach which has amazing surf. Lovely casual restaurants walking distance away. Very relaxing.

Great rural hide out
We stayed with 2 adults and 2 young children in April for a week. El Palmar is not very lively during that period, but exactly to our liking. The beach is 5 minutes by feet and is a very long strip stretching for kilometers to both sides. Some surfboard rentals are already open (main activity here on nice shorebreak) and some restaurants, as well. Not the best quality for money, though. Better cook at home. There is a small supermarket in El Palmar (veggies not best quality) and a large one in Conil. All kitchen gear is present (except an oven and teapot). Eating outside is a pleasure in the spacious garden. There is even a BBQ to grill the sardines from the local fishery. The swimming pool is 4 x 5 m and non heated: a refreshing dive in April, but probably welcome in hot summer months. It is located in the back of the terrain of the very sympathetic Señor Cruzado, with parking space for your car. Dogs, cats and chicken add to the rural flavor, much to the liking of our kids. The attic with a low roof is a good place for 2 kids with its 2 separate beds, but is not a separate room. So if you want to test the stereo in the evening (CD with USB access available), the kids will be witness. We did not watch television, but usually for us vacation is a good time for watching a DVD (however, not available). So we read a lot instead or just enjoyed the garden outside with some local wines. In short, one of the best places we ever stayed in because of privacy, tranquility, easy access to the beach and facilities.

Great place to relax and see sights
The villa and the gardens were fantastic and it was a great place to chill and relax. We loved being able to 'borrow' the animals especially the dogs. A fab location that made it easy to get to a variety of places - would recommend it totally!!

Exceeded all expectations.
Rarely does a property live-up to the "hype" that reviews give it. But this one not only lives-up to it but exceeds it spectacularly. It is beautifully secluded yet only a short walk from the beach. The private pool is wonderful and offers much-needed sanctuary should the dreaded "Levante" wind make the beach a no-go area. The property is superbly-maintained and Juan Antonio is a very welcoming host. I would have no hesitation is recommending this property.

We stayed in the Cortijo for a week at the end of July 2016. We had a great time, feeling utterly relaxed in the welcoming environment provided by Juan Antonio and everything around him. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this little paradise, very close to the beach, as well as the city of Cadiz, towns such as Vejer and Conil, and scenic sights such as Cape Trafalgar. We'd recommend this place in all possible ways. Keep up the great work, Juan Antonio.

Truely a paradise
We enjoyed our stay in El Cortijo del Huerto during the last week of May and the first week of June a lot.
The place is truely a paradise: a beautiful little house in the middle of a wonderful green garden with pool, altogether a calm and peaceful place to stay, to relax, and to feel at home from the moment of arrival on.
Juan Antonio is a really nice host. The whole property is well kept and beautifully looked after. Our son enjoyed to play with the dogs, to feed the chicken, and to pet Pita.
Thanks again for everything, Juan Antonio. We will come back!

A wonderful oasis of calm
We had a wonderful week in El Palmar; not only is the beach unusually underdeveloped for Spain (its more of a surfer hang-out), but Juan Antonio's house was just perfect. Clean, well appointed, with every you could need, and full of character (and five minutes tops from the beach). The pool is small and well-kept, and the garden is huge and beautifully looked after. Juan Antonio is a charming, patient and knowledgable host, and his cats and dogs are equally agreeable. You could not ask for more - the perfect place to relax in Andalucia.

Our paradise in Andalusia
This was our second stay at Cortijo del Huerto. We enjoyed again so much. Especially we like the big garden, the pool and the proximity to the beach.
Our kids like to play with the dogs and the cats. It is a true place to calm and relax. Juan is so friendly and helpful.
While El Palmar is developing (a lot of nice bars with Quality Drinks and Entertainment) this house is a quiet oasis.
We will come back definitely.

Peaceful oasis in walking distance from the beach
Beautiful house with pool in a peaceful property.
The property consists of three houses, which build up what seems a little paradise in walking distance from the beach, still away from the crowd. Very clean an perfectly well maintained, with great attention to detail!
The owner is very friendly and helpful. The welcome included free eggs from the chicken which were kept at the place. Our children loved to feed the chicken, and to play with the dogs and cats at the place.
The sandy beaches are long and clean. If you are a runner, you may use the morning hours to run to cap Trafalgar (lighthouse), sports activities include surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing - very affordable surfing schools and rentals within walking distance - try "pata negra" for surfing classes.
Plan to visit Vejer (white village) and Cadiz.
A lovely holiday at a beautiful vacation home!
Thank you Juan Antonio, we will certainly visit again!

Peaceful vibe - little oasis in Andalucia
We had the most amazing time in El Cortijo del Huerto! Juan is such a warm hearted person - always there to help - the house is furnished with a lot of beautiful detail. Everything is cleand and tidy. The kitchen has everything you need. Every knife is sharp, every pan in a perfect condition. We were there with a teenager and a 12 year old. You can have wonderful family time in this little oasis and if you walk a few meters you have the beach and some entertainment. Thank you Juan for everything. We would love to come back soon!!

Home away from home
This is a lovely property, an eclosed garden inside a gated compound so very safe but also very private despite there being four properties in total in the compound, one of which is Juan's home. Juan was an ideal host, available to give advice when asked but otherwise invisible. Our daily guests included two of the dogs, a host of cats and many chickens. Fresh eggs daily was an added bonus. The bedrooms had limited storage space, none at all in the upstairs section but apart from that the place was well stocked from a kitchen point of view and generally very comfortable. To be recommended.

A tranquil spot yet close to the beach
The property was excellent. The moment the gate opened and we walked in, we felt a strong sense of tranquillity, despite the fact we were only 200 meters from the beach. The house was clean & simple and full of character, with a private garden and a lovely pool. Juan Antonio was an excellent host, always there if there was anything we needed, and providing us with eggs from his chickens on the day we arrived....which were very tasty! The house is set back from the beach, and hidden by trees and bushes. The beach itself was busy at weekends, but quiet during the week. Along the promenade were a number of restaurants & bars, and those that we visited were really good, with excellent service. The beach is obviously a magnet for surfers because of its wonderful waves, and this made it rather an exciting place to bathe! Overall an excellent location, in a part of Spain not dominated by foreign tourists, and a good base to visit Seville, Cadiz, Gibraltar ... and even Tangiers!
