This house is lacking care & attention, which is a shame as the building is lovely & a great size.
However, there's no excuse for the dirty state of the house. There's a long list of things that needed to be cleaned but they include: kitchen shelves; light fittings; under the sofas; window frames; fireplaces & all the carpets. Everything is grubby & certainly not befitting of a luxury property.
In addition to the cleanliness issue, the house needs lots of TLC in terms of maintenance. Many things are just not right. For example, the back gate doesn't bolt, the front gate jams, the shelves in the door of the back fridge are cracking and should be replaced, the light fitting in the Jack & Jill bedroom doesn't work; the TV in the dining area doesn't work, etc.
At the time I booked the property, there was no mention of CCTV, which I'm now told by the host looks at the garden and the outside seating area. I consider this an invasion of privacy (given that none of us knew about it) and I've liaised with the host about this. She has now added that information to the property details.
I really pushed the boat out to rent this property to celebrate a big birthday with friends and family and feel badly let down by the experience we all had. I didn't raise these issue with the host at the time, but have done so since but have been disappointed in the way in which my feedback has been handled, hence this review.

We had 17 of us staying in this gorgeous georgian property. So nice to have a table big enough to accommodate all of us at mealtimes. Lovely big garden. Only a short walk to the beach, and lake, where kids and grown ups enjoyed paddle boarding and kayaking courtesy of GoSport. Beautiful stay..

Lovely large house with plenty of room for our 12 members.
Good location for Gosport - buses pass outside front gate, ferry over to Portsmouth very convenient.
We all felt the house was a little “ tired” and needed some TLC , however the house has a certain ambiance which we found enjoyable.

We spent a lovely week here with the family and dog and the kids absolutely loved it. From the what seemed like endless number of rooms and the secret meetings they had in the secret tower room. Great location to be able to get over to Portsmouth on the passenger ferry and to see the various historical sites nearby. Would happily stay here again.

3 generations stayed for a week, the youngest was aged 4. House was well equipped, with plenty of space for us all. A fully enclosed garden was great for the children. Easy to walk to shops, pubs, sea front. Not touristy so not overly busy. We loved it!

Myself and some friends stayed for the weekend and had a lovely time. The property and outside space itself was perfect with plenty of space to socialise, clean and well kept with shops and necessities within close proximity. Simone was very accommodating and helpful prior to our trip and throughout our stay.
We however could not give a high rating for the location and neighbourhood, due to being confronted a number of times by neighbouring houses with noise complaints at 8.30pm. The property rules state that all noise is kept to a respectful level by 10pm, something we are more than willing to be mindful of, however we were confronted by neighbours banging on the gate whilst enjoying a summer evening socialising in the garden very early on in the evening - so I would suggest if you are looking at a large number of guests staying, to bare this in mind.

Lovely house but just a bit far away from everything. Bus stop right outside the front gate which saved having to drive everywhere.

17 members of my family from different parts of the world were thrilled to be together for 2 nights. The house was perfect, with the ability to configure each bedroom to suit each family, and a table able to seat us all comfortably; and the outside spaces were lovely.
However, supplies in the house were totally inadequate. One toilet roll in each of the four bathrooms did not last long. There were no dishwasher tablets, and only 3 tiny tea towels if we washed mountains of cups and dishes by hand. No paper towels or napkins, no soap for showers. For an expensive rental it should not be asking too much for the owners to supply the basics for a couple of days.

We were 14 ladies staying here and it was perfect for us, the house has everything you need and it has a great layout and perfect spaces for entertaining inside and out. What a great house and a great weekend. The host always answered messages very quickly and we couldn't fault it.

Brilliant house for a large group. Very flexible arrangement of beds in bedrooms was great. A good location for easy access to many things to do including Portsmouth Historic Dockyards, the Isle of Wight, Winchester, walks in the South Downs

Just spent a week at this lovlely house -
Booking easy, communication with owner good. House warm and welcoming - just right for a break with our children and their families and partners 17 in all. House well equipped for us all (2 fridge/freezers)!
Location brilliant for visiting Portsmouth naval museums and coastline paths. South Downs and New Forest areas a short drive away.
Very good value.

Just a little thing, shame no working locks on bathrooms.

We had a fantastic weekend as a large group of friends. Beautiful house, we especially loved the large dining area and lounge with open fire. Short 20-min walk to waterfront and a good little shop locally for provisions.

Lovely house with comfy beds and plentiful seating for our large family gathering. Set back off the road, plentiful off road parking and large garden.
Well situated for walking to Stokes Bay with its great Pebbles Cafe. Also for the Submarine and Explosives Museums. Get an unlimited ticket for access by boat to Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. Real bargain and with free parking also a way to visit Gunwalf Quays - book ticket on line even cheaper.

Bury Tower House was the perfect venue for our family gathering to celebrate our 45th anniversary. It was very homely but was so spacious and comfortable that we did not feel that we were on top of each other. The young ones loved the secret room and the dining table was perfect for our celebration meal and Murder Mystery evening. Would definitely recommend it.

Lovely house, everything we needed for a weeks stay with people of all ages. Plenty of room so you don’t feel on top of each other, especially loved the huge dining table. Very clean and tidy, decorated lovely too. Several beaches close by. Very good parking.

We very much enjoyed our stay. The house is comfortable and practical. The gardens gave us an extra dimension and the children enjoyed the added freedom. We appreciated the large table and well equipped kitchen expect the two fridge freezers.

The property was perfect for our needs. We were joined by our 5 children with 3 partners and 5 children-2 x4 yes,2x2yrs,1x1yr. Enough room for everyone Inc space for the little ones to play. The garden was especially good. The location was good as family were travelling from different parts of the UK and also 2 using the euroshuttle. Easy access to the beach, town centre and parks and Gosport ferry. We thought Gosport itself a bit tired but people very friendly and polite. Easy to get to the Historic Dockyard. Downside- one of the ensuite showers kept tripping the electrics and I would have preferred the high chair to be cleaner. Also, the very upstairs room stillnhad sweet papers and glasses in it. However, we would love to go back to the house again.

Beautiful house, lots of room and lovely little touches.... Made a weekend away with friends and family really special.
Good communication with property manager and speedy replies. Would recommend to everyone!

The photo do not do the property justice. Beautiful property and communication was great. The only thing I would recommend, is for the instructions for the hob to be left out clearly as it more complicated than it needs to be. Easy to find and plenty of seating for everyone. Would recommend!

Great house for family get togethers. Enjoyed our stay immensely. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Two of the showers had low pressure but a great house.

We spent a lovely weekend here with 14 members of our family (aged 10 to 83!). The house was an ideal size with a big garden and was very comfortably furnished and spotlessly clean. It was great to be able to all sit around one table together. We caught the ferry over to Portsmouth on Saturday and some went to the Historic Dockyard whilst others enjoyed the shops at Gunwharf Quays. All in all a great weekend in a fantastic house. Thank you!

Lovely house, shame the tv channels were not working properly, there were 16 of us unfortunately the living room wasn’t big enough for us all to be seated.
Problems with the on suite shower.
But we had a great time and lots of fun

Just returned from a wonderful family holiday. Bury Tower House was perfect for us all (ages ranging from 1 to 76). House was very spacious, well equipped, ample parking and we loved the little 'secret room'. It was perfectly positioned for local shops, visits to Postsmouth, Marwell Zoo and Stokes Bay beach (to name but a few). Wendy and Simone were most helpful and communication was excellent between them - nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely stay in the house again
