About this house rental
If you are after a simple and idyllic island holiday in the Hauraki Gulf without the mayhem of the now very busy Waiheke Island, this special house on the beautiful Rakino Island is just the place for you.
This Queenslander bungalow boasts spectacular panoramic views of the Hauraki Gulf to Waiheke and Rangitoto Island.
This house was the first ever to be brought across to the island on the barge in the 1970s, so its location on the island is one of the best.
There is a full kitchen with fridge (no freezer), a gas stove with a gas oven. The Queenslander design of the house also allows you to enjoy the view and outdoor living comfortably rain or shine.
The main house has 2 bedrooms inside and the 3rd bedroom is a large sleep out at the back of the house.
There is a regular ferry service to Rakino from downtown Auckland, as well as from the North Shore through the summer. This service can be downloaded from Belaire ferries website. Also, there are water taxis that have regular runs, or can be specifically hired. These run from Auckland and Waiheke. We can advise you further about the water taxis.
There are no shops on the island, so all provisions need to be brought with you onto Rakino.
There are 3 kilometres of road and the beaches are within a short walk.
Special conditions:
The house is an eco house, as Rakino is 'off - the - grid'. We do have a solar power system but we ask all guests to keep power usage to a minimum, and to make sure all power appliances are switched off when not in use. Solar power systems cannot cope with toasters, heaters, hair driers or straighteners so they cannot be used. The house runs on tank water, and although there are two large tanks, please be conscious of water usage.
NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave and please bring your own towels (bed linen is provided).

Our accommodation was a perfect fit for our group of friends looking for some island R&R, we loved the laid back vibes, quirky features and breathtaking views. Great communication , good instructions and added bonus of a car made it all run smoothly. What a treat to experience the Rakino charm from such a comfy and welcoming base - which everything we needed for cooking and relaxing. Definitely be back if we can 😊

Great Stay on Rakino
This is the second time we have booked this property for a work trip on Rakino island and it has been a great place to stay once again. Our crew have given nothing but good feedback on the property. Ana in particular was so helpful In organising things and great to communicate with.

Great house and great hosts
We were a group of 4 adults and 3 infants all under 2yo. This was the first time on Rakino for all us us.
We loved our stay. The house has amazing views in all directions. The balcony wraps right around the house so you can always find your preferred combination of sun, shade, and breeze.
The hosts were great to deal with. They offered the use of their car during our stay which made it easy to transfer gear to and from the ferry.
Would love to come back.

Wonderful relaxing stay
We enjoyed our time here immensely. Ani was an excellent host, responding to all of our questions and even arranging a car for our visit to the island.
The house has a terrific aspect and view and is very comfortable. Everything you need plus loads of character. Particularly enjoyed the Pasifika theme.
Will be back.
