Wine Tours – UNESCO World Heritage Site vineyards
This area is renowned for its world-class wines - in particular Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto, Roero Arneis, Cortese, Nebbiolo, Moscato and Asti Spumante. In 2014 many vineyards in the area were designated jointly as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognising not only the quality and tradition of the wines but also the incredible views across the hills and valleys from the vineyards themselves. You can visit most vineyards to sample and purchase these excellent wines at amazing rates during your stay, and a local English-speaking guide is nearby if you would like a wine tour arranged for you and your guests.
Slow Food and local gastronomy
Piedmont is famous for its gastronomy – the Slow Food movement started here – there are many wonderful restaurants within easy reach serving local and Piemontese gastronomic specialities, such as truffles and Robiola cheeses. Come for the White Truffle Fair in Alba during October and November, Slow Fish Fair every other May in Genoa, Cheese Fair every other September in Bra, or any of the many Slow Food events in the area. The Bormida valley is surrounded by lovely hills, most with a pretty village on top, and each hill has a number of winding roads leading to the peak, so the choices and routes are endless. We have four road bikes available for guest use (email us for more details). If you want some guided rides – either mountain bike or road bike, these can be arranged too.

We absolutely loved our stay at La Casa Pietra. My parents, and my family of four (two boys aged 6 & 8) had a great week exploring Piedmont and enjoying the pool amidst a very hot July.
The house is older but well kept. The shades and fans made it cool enough to sleep. The kitchen is very usable. And the bikes were good to get out on early in the morning before it got too hot (though the hills are steep!)
The owners were extremely responsive and helpful both before and during our stay - providing lots of useful advice for the region. They have a wonderful local family who manage the house and provide on-site cooking if desired. We paid for dinner one night which was delicious and Cinzia and Simone were an absolute delight to meet and chat with.
The location is definitely remote - Bubbio is a tiny sleepy village - so most destinations are 20 mins drive or more but we visited Barolo, Barbaresco, Alba and Asti on various day trips. Canelli over the hill is an interesting place to be near! Beware the roads are small, steep and winding in the region.
Would definitely recommend and would happily stay again.

I recently rented a house in Italy and would like to share my positive experiences. From the moment of arrival, we received a warm welcome from the owner, which immediately made a positive impression. The hospitable reception made us feel at home right away.
The vacation home is situated in a breathtaking location. Surrounded by the beautiful Italian countryside, we could enjoy picturesque views of the hills and charming villages in the vicinity. The tranquility and serenity of the location made it an ideal escape from the daily hustle and bustle.
There was a large and well-maintained swimming pool. It was a delight to take a refreshing dip on hot days and relax on the comfortable sun loungers by the poolside. The pool provided ample space for our group and was a great place to have fun and unwind together.
The vacation home itself was spacious and comfortable. The interior was tastefully decorated with attention to detail, and all the amenities we needed were available. The kitchen was well-equipped, allowing us to easily prepare meals and enjoy cozy dinners on the terrace. The overall experience of our stay in this rented house was absolutely positive. The warm welcome, stunning location, and large pool all contributed to an unforgettable vacation. I highly recommend this vacation home to anyone seeking a relaxing and enjoyable holiday in Italy.

Just returned from a lovely holiday in Casa Peitra with a group old friends. The perfect place for a reunion after many years. Here's what some of the guests said:
A comfortable and brilliantly equipped house perfect for large numbers with space for everyone, whether relaxing by the pool, reading in the shade or cooking in the brilliant kitchen. And for those who need to do the odd bit of work, fantastic wi-fi.

A thoroughly modernised beautiful old villa set in spectacular, surprisingly green, rural countryside. Stunning.

I arrived exhausted and just the sight and location of the villa, instantly lifted my spirits. Day one the joy set in. Every day brought more. I leave reluctantly but with the diary out working out when I can return.
- Elaine...
I came for the Giro which passes near by and got inspired. The surrounding hills around Casa Pietra are spectacular for cycling. I took myself off most days and returned home fitter than ever before. A Fantastic holiday. Thank you Jeska and Kit.

A wonderful place for a holiday - the grandchildren loved the pool, table tennis, table football, swings and the garden. Lovely outdoor eating area with large table next to the kitchen. Everything was exceptional. Jeska recommended a local chef, Cinzia, who cooked us an excellent meal one evening . David looks after the property and he was really helpful and welcoming and solved any issue that we had.

We really enjoyed our stay at la casa Pietra! The children were happy and busy with activities in the garden and the pool was excellent.
David was a superb host! He was extremely helpful and gave us lot of good advice.
Most of the beds were not that comfortable( too firm) and of course it was hot in the bedrooms on the upper floor but David provided us with some fans.

Jederzeit wieder!!

Stunning Italian Home
Gorgeous house set in the Italian hills close to a picturesque village of Bubbio. The house was great for kids with pool, table tennis and trampoline. The kitchen is really well equipped, with sharp knives! The bedrooms are large with fresh linen and towels. The area itself is great for cycling and amazing near by restaurants. Overall a beautiful place to stay, incredibly relaxing.

I stayed at "La Casa Pietra" for a week in August with my family and 3 other couples of friends. The villa and its surroundings exceeded our expectations. The house is well equipped with all the necessary comforts, the spaces are large and everything is very well maintained thanks to the constant presence of David, who was at our disposal in case of need, but with great discretion.
The house cleaning was good enough.
The pool worked perfectly. We highly recommend staying at "La Casa Pietra" for a relaxing holiday.

Thanks once again La Casa Pietra for a lovely stay! My family of seven (ages range from 27 - 75) stayed for a week at this property and have much enjoyed the Villa and the surrounding countryside, seaside locations and the Italian Riveria. The facilities in the Villa are plentyiful. The host has been very through in regards to;* Kitting out the kitchen equipment for cooking.* Fresh laundry, bath towels and beach towels are provided. *BBQ *Bikes, table tennis, swings and Trampoline for kids. * Swimming pool. * A downstairs bedroom. We found this particular useful as the eldest member of our party struggles to climb stairs. It is like a home away from home. In regards to location, you would need a car as there isn't much within walking distance. (There is a great Pizzeria about five minutes drive). Shopping, supermarkets and local shops are all easy assessable by car and not a long distance. We found Bennetts particularly useful which is a 20 minute drive. Thank you also to David who checked us in seamlessly after our day of travel. And a great big thank you for always being on hand if need be and providing us with your knowledge. You are always a great help! Can't wait to visit again. All the best, The Doherty's.

A fabulous house
We came here on a family holiday and fell in love with the place. Having been on several villa holidays where the house is basically a buy-to-let with only the bare minimum on offer, this was a pleasant change. La Casa is clearly a family home where the owners come regularly and have over the years crafted it into a comfortable and well-equipped place to relax.
Everything you could want in terms of cooking equipment is here, including a barbecue, herb garden, delicious home-grown tomatoes you can pick yourself, an abundance of pots, and pans and appliances.
The outside area is so beautiful and well-equipped with a trampoline, swings, table tennis, table football, hammocks and lovely outside seating area, not to mention the pool which is perfect and in clear sight of the main terrace and seating areas so you can watch the children from close by. They also provide some bikes which are free to use, something we have not come across in other rentals. These allowed us to cycle up to the nearby village which is only 1km away to buy daily staples and relax with a coffee in one of the 3 cafes.
The house is nicely furnished and clean, with all towels and pool towels provided.
We had an amazing week, such a lovely place and the surrounding area is an unspoilt gem with very few tourists.

A warm villa in the heart of
This villa is perfect for a relaxing, healthy and enjoyable holiday with all the family and friends. Situated in the spectacular Italian countryside, the villa is just a short walk away from the beautiful old village of Bubbio, where the stunning views can be enjoyed either on foot or on a bicycle. People are friendly and welcoming, and the wine (for which this land is best known for) is superb. The villa is clean and well looked after, and the manager is never too far away if help is needed. We really liked the rustic decor, which gives the villa a real homely and warm feeling. It is spacious, and yet allows for privacy, so that everyone has their own space. It has a good size swimming pool with beautiful gardens surrounding the villa. The impressive table on the patio is perfect for those family summer meals, and gives this villa a real Italian hearty flavour. We all enjoyed spending time at the villa, lounging by the pool and cooking meals, waking up early for outdoor yoga, and joining the locals for summer parties in the local towns. There are plenty of walks and cycling routes, check out the walk to Madonna della Neve! For wine lovers, there are also plenty of wine tours to enjoy. I would really recommend this to anyone who likes spending time with their family and friends, while enjoying food, wine, health, beauty and tranquillity.

Perfect Italian Villa Holiday
This house is a hidden gem nestled in the Italian hills with a gorgeous pool and excellent facilities. We have been to many self-catering houses and often found kitchens to be poorly equipped. This house has everything you need and was clean and tidy.
For us having a trampoline, swing and table tennis table was brilliant for the kids and the village is just a short walk away.
We visited local vineyards and were treated impeccably. We cycled locally and found the hosts knowledge of the area really helpful. The bedrooms were spacious and clean and really enjoyed lazing on the sofas in the afternoon reading. This holiday far exceeded our expectation and we can’t wait to go back.

The villa was very rustic and unique. It had a lot of character. Bugs and flies were a real problem. Of course, we were among all the vineyards, so you can expect bugs, etc. in the house. They were a bit much for me. Also, the house was not very clean. I lost my earring under the bed, and when I got under the bed to retrieve it, I was shocked at the dust and dirt that was there. And, David, while he is a very likeable gentleman, would show up at our door in the mornings without any warning. I would always be sitting in my pjs relaxing and reading emails, etc.. It was very startling for me.The countryside was beautiful. We did a lot of biking and walking. It is a remote area, however, which is what we were looking for.The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, etc. However, the cloths they provided for clean up were not very clean. Terrible coffee maker. All in all, I don’t know if I would recommend this villa. If my complaints sound minor to you, then you would enjoy this villa. The pool was lovely, by the way.

I really can’t rate this villa with stars
The villa was very rustic and unique. It had a lot of character. Bugs and flies were a real problem. Of course, we were among all the vineyards, so you can expect bugs, etc. in the house. They were a bit much for me. Also, the house was not very clean. I lost my earring under the bed, and when I got under the bed to retrieve it, I was shocked at the dust and dirt that was there. The perfect vacation.
We had a terrific week at La Casa Pietra. The house was delightful: comfortable, cool with an array of secluded places to relax or socialise. The pool was perfect and the outside dining area was where we spent most of our time. I spent every morning walking, running or cycling and still feel that there was much more to explore. We all loved the whole neighbourhood. Thank you!

Superb well equipped family villa
We chose this villa having read another review on HomeAway. The villa was perfect for our family group keen on eating, drinking and cooking. We cooked in most evenings and found the local markets at Acqui Terms and Asti excellent to source food, the kitchen was very well equipped and David's tips (which kept coming as he got to know us) were spot on. Even when Dad's turn came round David recommended a good pizza take-away! There was plenty to do for our adult group: we cycled, walked, played games and spend time around the beautiful pool. The villa was hot but the large fans kept the bedrooms aired. we would thoroughly recommend this villa.

The property and house are very well maintained. The house was roomy and very comfortable.
We had a great time exploring the Piemonte region. We were always glad to get back to the house and enjoy the comforts of the home and the wonderful outside spaces. Just wish the weather had been a little better... The owners were accurate in the description of the property and they are fortunate to have a terrific caretaker, who was most helpful in making recommendations and supplying us with tons of information.

More than a holiday home .
We have just returned from the most heavenly week in La Casa Pietra with our three grown up boys and their girlfriends . .
The house was so well equipped with everything you could wish for . From really decent kitchen equipment ,the knives were amazing ! And very comfortable beds . All the rooms had portable fans and so we had no problem with the heat ,and we were very lucky with fabulous hot ,sunny days .
The pool was the best we have ever had at a holiday home ,big and deep enough for us all to play in .
David was great at local knowledge and ideas for eating out , though we loved to cook in,meaning we could all imbibe the local wines .
We could have done with an extra two days to cross everything off our 'to do' list .
Thank you for letting us use your lovely home and thank you David ,for all your help.

Very enjoyable stay in Piemonte
Charming and comfortable house. Very nice and well maintained outdoor area and pool. Well equipped house with all necessary utilities and equipment. Four nice bikes, two retro bikes and two good road bikes. During our stay, it was unusually hot and air conditioning would have improved sleep quality. Excellent service provided by caretaker David, helping out with local knowledge and generally being available for all sorts of minor and major problems. Will absolutely recommend the house, and we will most likely try to return in the future.

Casa Pietra was everything we'd hoped and more!
Casa Pietra is every bit as lovely as it looks. David was a generous and informative host, and the house was spectacular. We enjoyed the pool, the ripe cherries, the walks along the river in the evenings, and the local wineries and markets. There was something for everyone, old and young. The kitchen was a dream, the rooms spacious and clean, and the town of Bubbio close enough to walk. We loved every minute and hope to find our way back another summer.
