Fantastiskt litet hotel som ligger vackert beläget uppe på ett berg. Vi fick en jättefin villa med utsikt över skogen och havet. På kvällarna njöt vi av solnedgången och spanade på apor i djungeln. Personalen var helt underbara och hjälpte till med allt vi behövde. Maten var den bästa vi har ätit på Sri lanka och det förvånade mig att inte fler gäster kom och åt på kvällarna. Kocken lagade allt min 4-åriga dotter önskade och vi var mer än nöjda. På morgonen hade personalen lagt ut blommor på vårt frukostbord och det var alltid en spännande design skapad av handdukar på sängen (det där illa extra som fick oss att alltid le). Att hotellet ligger lite avsides var inga problem för oss. Det står alltid tok-toks utanför, annars ringer hotellet en som kommer inom 5 minuter. Tack för en fantastisk upplevelse, vi kommer absolut komma tillbaka!

The views were stunning, the main pool was very nice, the food was good, the bed was comfortable.
The location was very remote. If you are staying here, please expect to have to get a tuk tuk everyday to and from the main towns such as Unawatuna. Tuk tuk drivers wait outside the hotel and charge roughly 10x the price you would normally expect to pay in Sri Lanka. They are taking advantage of the fact that this is a 5 star hotel and being so remote. These guys are allegedly nothing to do with the hotel, but conveniently sit directly outside and when you ask reception for a tuk tuk - miraculously one of the guys outside comes in to collect you. I suspect the hotel is working with them and splitting inflated profits.
If you are considering booking a taxi to get you to and from Tabula Rasa, please don’t book with the hotel. They wanted to charge us £120 one way when in reality, this is double the price of booking a transfer through the likes of booking.com or any other reputable transfer company, which offered this service for £60 one way. This is what we chose to do as it was far cheaper.
The food, be it fairly good, is expensive. Much more than you would expect to pay in other hotels in Sri Lanka. We opted to pay extra to have breakfast provided within our stay. You would naturally assume that water would be included at breakfast right? Well, not exactly. The hotel charges $2 per bottle of water, which I find absolutely disgraceful and disgusting. They are capitalising on the fact you need to drink water in such a hot climate. No complimentary water in the room either, this was also chargeable at $2 a bottle. An utter disgrace as you have already paid for breakfast so this should be included.
The general condition of the hotel was tired. Flaking paint, rough edges and generally tired interiors can be seen everywhere. Within our room we had broken picture frames, marked walls and general obvious areas of heavy use. This place really does need a freshen up and refurbishment.

Das Frühstück muss definitiv verbessert werden. Es gibt jeden Tag das exakt Gleiche. Cappuccino etc. kostet extra. Keinerlei Möglichkeiten herzhaft mit süß zu kombinieren. An zwei von drei Tagen war das servierte Frühstück kalt. Dieses Frühstück passt nicht zum sonstigen Niveau dieses Hotels.

Great room, comfortable and quiet. Highlight was watching troop of monkeys go back and forth everyday in trees from vantage point on outdoor terrace.

Great stay here at Tabula Rasa Resort! Very kind and friendly staff with great tips for activities around the area. We received a free room upgrade to a villa with direct ocean view - Stunning! Everything is very clean and the design is beautiful. As you can see in the video the breakfast is also delicious.

Me and my partner are frequent travelers, but also in comparison to many other hotels, we were staying at, Tabula Rasa Resort ist definetely in top 3. Amazing attention to details: starting from the service of the stuff, ending with how clean, well-thought and stylish the hotel is.
The stuff deserves special thank you: we were provided with EVERYTHING we were just thinking about: the scooter, motorcycle, information about the wanted tours or help with the tours we planned by ourself.
The Transfer-Guy who was organized by the hotel to bring us was late for 1 hour due to traffic: as a compensation we got free head massage. The guy in the restaurant came earlier 2 times (at 5:30!!) just to serve us two early breakfast and coffee.
Even when in the beginning of our stay it was just two of us in the hotel they did the maximum program: with music, atmosphere, service, beautiful lights in the hotel.
It is definetely a 5-star experience and service and we would definitely recommend the hotel to all of the people coming to Sri Lanka.
And big thank you for the owners (if the sprites are true dutch architect and designer;) for making the hotel exclusively beautiful.
Not what we didn’t like: on contrary we were searching for it, but for the other travelers as info: the hotel is located on the top of the hill, which can be tricky for those wanting to walk to the ocean or those who are trying to go there by bike: it could be hard. But the hotel is providing Tuktuks and with the same driver you can arrange your coming back. Or as we did: just take a scouter and enjoy absolute freedom of your movement. P.S. with this location, you are literally part of nature: looking at some monkeys from your hotel and enjoying the sounds of the jungles.

Pretty property but need more maintenance and upkeep. Helpful staff.
Maintenance and upkeep of property are needed. It looks depleted and needs more maintenance overall. The plunge pool room is cute but has overgrown vegetation that blocks the sea view of the room and gets pool really dirty. The water of the pool seemed cloudy and not as clean as expected.
The hotel had great staff but was very understaffed. Two staff members managing a pretty full hotel breakfast was chaotic.
Operational Management staff was missing from the property and, therefore, overall planning and managing of events and even day to day activities was arranged once reminded and not on time. Place needs some kne to manage the staff and run the operation smoothly
My expectation from the hotel at the price we paid was higher.

We were welcomed by the host who was so friendly & professional. We arrived earlier than check in as our flight was at an earlier time but the hotel were great & offered us breakfast whilst they prepared the room…it was ready for us 3 hours prior to check in which was perfect as we were tired from our long travel. We had a little frog in the room when we arrived but the staff came quickly as soon as we told them & they removed it carefully. Everything was perfect during our stay, the facilities, the staff, the food…it was all so lovely. We loved that we could see monkey’s jumping from tree to tree around the property & big lizards roam around the grounds occasionally which was very cool! Yoga mats are kept on a rack by the pool, which you can use freely when you wish…nice touch! The price of the food in the hotel was a little more expensive than other places in Sri Lanka but actually was very reasonable price for the quality of it. We were celebrating our anniversary & the hotel went the extra mile to make our stay special. We had a private dinner in the sky bar and had the burger & tuna dishes. The burger was one of the best burgers i have ever had, so delicious! We also visited the spa & enjoyed our time there with massage/ facial/ herbal bath looking out to the sea, so wonderful. I can’t recommend this hotel enough, I hope we can visit again in the future! :-)
If i am going to really nitpick then just that the shower gel bottle wasn’t refilled each day but it wasn’t really a big deal at all as there was a soap bar also. Other than that, nothing…everything was spot on!

We had an amazing time at Tabula Rasa!
From the first minute until the farewell we felt perfectly taken care of.
The facilities are wonderful, the rooms are big and with a huge balcony and great views.
It was the perfect hotel to unwind and enjoy some calm moments whilst swimming in the pool by yourself or reading a book on the veranda.
The staff was incredibly friendly, funny and welcoming!
The Sri Lankan breakfast was missing the delicious sweet variations that we usually got during our stays in different hotels.
I mean, what was served, was absolutely tasty but from our perspective, most Europeans love some sweet breakfast variations and the Sir Lankan kitchen offers great coconut flour and recipes.

Beautiful hotel. Was lovely to stay there. Rooms are beautiful, so peaceful. The pool is gorgeous. Plenty of wildlife ( in a good way) monkeys jumping on the trees around but out of the property and colourful birds flying around. No bugs in the room and the AC was working perfectly. Staff is very nice. The walk to the beach isn't short but totally worth it.
Breakfast is nice, but for lunch or dinner it's worth exploring the restaurants outside if you are a foodie.

Staff were generally excellent and the breakfast was well presented and very tasty.
The mark-up on some of the products is pretty aggressive. A local beer here is twice the price of the Hilton in Colombo.
And if you are going to increase your prices then for heaven’s sake reprint the menu rather than putting little stickers on each item. Not the behaviour of a high end hotel.
