Hele leuke plek. Mar en George zijn erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Lekker avondeten en ontbijt. Veel excursiemogelijkheden. Basic, maar nette kamers. Ideaal voor met kinderen te gaan, vermits ze veel spelletjes hebben.

We loved our stay in Mar Lodje and we were looking for a very cozy and local atmosphere. One of the reasons that I booked were the lovely reviews about the food and I could not have chosen a better place. Breakfast was very basic like the other places we stayed in Senegal (we usually buy fruits to add in our meals) but lunch and dinner were yummy yummy. I loved the small charming details during each meal. Muito obrigada!!!
Highly recommend that you do the tour with the local guide - it was nice to know the history and traditions of Mar Lodje. We missed the service of the Catholic Church on Sunday but if you can book your stay to be there - looks amazing!
Nothing really to say about the stay. In June it was a bit hot during the day but it is was fine. The beach is just a couple of minutes away from the house and a good swim in the summer is the best thing to do!!

Mar and her husband Abdou are great hosts who really make you feel welcome from the heart! We stayed for a whole week with them and felt like being at home :)
They provide you with all the info you need and organize a smooth transport from Dakar to their place for the guests (if needed) at a fair price. Mar Lodj is a great chance to experience real Senegalese country side life and the Sahel. It is an island in the river delta and the four villages on the island are well worth visiting. Many excursions and activities are possible and all can be organized by Mar and her family and nice bathing spots on the river-delta (good for swimming in clean water!) can be reached in only a few minutes. The accomodation provides full board if you like and always has cool drinks at hand which is great in the often hot climate in the afternoon. Nguel du Saloum is built with in traditional courtyard style with has a cozy feeling - so lying in one of the hammocks or on a sofa in the open air living room in the shade is just great any time! Solar panels insure constant power supply and we highly respect the effort Mar and Abdou went/go through in order to supply such a nice accomodation in a place where supply of goods and infrastructure can be really limited at times! (transport on the island is by horse-carriage (great!) as there are no roads (wonderful, no car horns, no traffic fumes and jams!) - just to give you an idea ) Thanks again for everything, Mar and Abdou and we hope that many more people find their way to your wonderful place! It is really worth visiting and we truly hope to come back again to see you again at Nguel du Saloum in the future (with "el musculator" of course :)!

I had dinner at the hotel twice, and it was the best food I've had during my whole trip in Senegal. Once she made a dish with shrimps, and the shells were so soft that I could easily eat them, which I'd never done before. She did not use any fancy ingredients but created a complex taste, nonetheless, from mixing the right, albeit simple, ingredients. The cook was exceptional and exceeded all my expectations. The owner of the hotel, Mar, was amazing in giving me all the information about the village and activities. Another worker washed my clothes, which took only a few hours from washing to drying, and she did an excellent job getting the Dakar dirt off them. I really enjoyed my stay there and would like to return.
This hotel had the most mosquitoes of all the hotels I stayed in Senegal, possibly because of its location or the building material, which seemed to be organic and locally sourced. I'm not sure what they can do to improve the situation, however, because I wouldn't want them to spray the whole place all day and night or replace the building materials to make the place feel plastic, either. I'm thinking maybe they can put newer mosquito nets that might work better. Another thing I didn't like was the length of the bed, which was short even for me, and I'm only 5'4". I saw taller guests there, though, so wondered if they got longer beds than I did.

Having to stay at du Saloum has increased my desire to visit more the Saloum Islands, specially this little paradise of Mar Lodj. Abdou and Mar hospitality has kept our attention at the very first time we them. The welcoming was so heartwarming that automatically felt home.
In addition, the comfort during the stay was awesome. The staffs were so kind, available and ready to help anytime. Not mentioned the food which was delicious, the Nguel du Saloum decoration can’t go unnoticed. Thanks to Abdou and Mar have made us have a great stay. Definitely going back there 💖
Perfection 😅. Joke aside, there’s nothing to dislike. Lovely place
