Enjoy your own private castle experience and feel completely at home with the very best of the Costa Brava and Girona at your doorstep! Castel Celra has an intimate, inviting atmosphere and laid-back yet elegant way of living perfectly suited to travelers wanting to spark their imagination with a sense of place and contact with locals.
The castle welcomes you to an authentic experience in a rural destination where you are not surrounded by other travelers.
This is a quiet part of the world that, for the most part, has not succumbed to major development. While there is plenty to do to fulfill your wanderlust, you can still unwind and relax.
Castel Celra is well-located adjacent to a pristine lush nature reserve with rolling green hills and hiking trails yet walking distance to an authentic Catalan village and only 8km to the beautiful, medieval walled city of Girona and some of the area's top destinations for superb food and wine.
Award-winning, family-friendly beaches, gorgeous Mediterranean coastline with hidden coves and charming seaside towns (think the Côte d'Azur at a fraction of the price), and Spain's #1 rated golf course with Stadium layout are 30mins away.
Listed as a Spanish and Catalan historic monument dating from the 10th-century, the unique architectural elements of the castle's original structure have been beautifully blended with a relaxed, contemporary aesthetic tailored for your comfort and enjoyment. The castle is a self-catering, private luxury retreat with all modern amenities and is attractively decorated with comfortable, original furnishings.
The property is unique in that, while self-catering, we have a local English-speaking
host / concierge to greet you on arrival + help you feel at home, answer questions, and provide insider tips for go-to places and the very best of the area. This allows you to delve into the local culture and discover lesser known treasures and culinary adventures off the tourist track.
Living like a local gives you a more personal experience and brings you closer to the distinct history, rich cultural traditions + imaginative and robust cuisine of this extraordinary region.

Beautiful place to stay, we felt very lucky to have the opportunity. Pool area is great and so much inside the castle we didn’t get a chance to use all the rooms! Great view from the roof. Really helpful owner and the concierge Roser was brilliant

It was a privilege to stay and spend a week in this 11th century castle in the beautiful Girona countryside. We had a magical stay celebrating a 60th birthday with close friends. In addition to the amazing ambience created by the historic castle we took up the option, coordinated by the ever helpful Rozer, of having Xavier prepare a delicious meal (twice) and also a flamenco performance, which blew us away with amazing dancers, a singer and Pedro’s virtuoso performance on the guitar. It made for an unforgettable experience and celebration. The castle is perfectly located for day trips to the Costa Brava and other sightseeing options such as Girona and Dali experiences…..or just sitting by the pool! We couldn’t have been happier with our stay.

We loved our time at Castel Del Celra. A real treat to live in such a fascinating building for a week, soaking up the local vibes. Everything was set up beautifully for us, and the castle was a great place to return to after a day's adventures.

Magical Castle
The castle was full of history and local charm. Specious living areas and we spent mornings and evening on the front patio enjoying the ambiance with cafe and cocktails. The top of the tower is the perfect spot for sunset and stargazing.
Internet at the castle and in Celra is spotty and slow, so print out your plans for the week or you’ll be frustrated.
We were there when it was unusually hot. Make sure to close all the windows and doors, outside and inside right after coffee to hold the cool air in and you’ll be glad you did.
The train to Girona/Barcelona from Celra is super convenient.
Lara, the property Mgr, has incredible ideas, suggestions and connections! Make sure to ask her for advice and let her help you plan your week early. Her reservations for us were perfectly selected. Especially, Chef Xevi was a highlight, we will all remember our group cooking night as one of the delightful evenings of our stay in Spain.

Wonderful Place, Wonderful Stay
A wonderful castle so full of character and history, beautifully modernized, without losing the magical charm. We loved the indoor/outdoor portions, the views from the tower, the library, and the thick walls kept the interior cool and comfortable even during a heat wave. The patio and grounds were beautiful. We enjoyed an excellent meal with chef Xavier, and appreciated the help from Lara and Andrea. Lots to see and do within 30 minutes or less, including walking the beautiful streets and trails of Celra. We look forward to returning someday.

A castle experience
We were 4 couples who wanted to spend a week in Spain together and rented this Castle. It's 10th century and fulfills all the requirements for a castle, thick walls, a lovely wine cave, a tower with beautiful views, lots of cozy nooks and corners, and also the occasional creaking water faucets, exploding light bulbs and it's very own ghost Hugh!
Overall a lovely experience! And the host Lara worked hard to make sure we were all happy!
