Around the harbour and all along the foreshore and beach area is the jumble of crow step gabled and pan tiled houses, many with quaint outside stairs. The High Street is connected to the harbour and foreshore via intimate alleys and lanes, one of which passes St Fillans cave, the key for which is locally available. The High Street has a variety of shops, cafes and art galleries, Pitenweem is famous for its Art Festival which takes place during the first week of August each year.
