About this cottage rental
Catch the sunrise to start your day and the sunset late in the evening from multiple furnished decks overlooking Big Platte Lake - dazzling water views from the living room, dining room, and kitchen.
Our private waterfront is bathed by crystal clear water. It is an ideal water-playground for children because of an extensive shallow area (300 feet); perfect for frolicking, wading, Frisbee, and floating, with deeper water farther out for swimming, kayaking, jet-skiing, water-skiing, fishing, and canoeing. A Soft, mint-leaf lawn for volleyball or other barefoot adventures waits at the shoreline, and a flower-garden with a dizzying assortment of fragrant lilies separates the cottage from the guest house.
Our 500-foot driveway is lined with magnificent birch, maple and oak trees, lending a feeling of quiet seclusion to the property. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore can be reached in less than five minutes by foot - we are just outside the edge of the park
Some of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan are just a five minute drive (ten minute bike ride) from the house. Alternatively, you could board our canoe or kayaks on our private waterfront, wind your way down the Platte River, and emerge two glorious hours later in the splendor of Lake Michigan.
Both the cottage and guest house were custom built in the mid-1990’s. The design concept was to allow light reflecting off of the lake to fill the structures with natural light. Open floor plans, skylights and huge windows make artificial lighting completely unnecessary during daylight hours. On clear, moon-lit nights, the glitter from Platte Lake throws an ethereal blue light throughout the cottage. The cottage living room, dining area, and kitchen are one open area, making it possible for big families to spread out while still inhabiting the same space. The guest house interior is also one open space with a sleeping area, a sitting area, and a TV-nook.

We enjoyed staying at this cozy, private, dog-friendly cottage located right on peaceful Platte Lake. The home is close to excellent hiking paths, beaches, and other lakes and towns, so it was very easy to get into nature, get groceries, or dine at a local restaurant. Owner was very friendly and provided excellent guides to the surrounding area.

SO restful and serene and the lake is beautiful. We were lucky with the weather too! The cabin is nice and cozy. The convenience of the kayaks and bikes already there! The park is near by within walking distance! Gorgeous landscape in this area. Recharged our batteries!!

Stephen’s home is adorable, comfortable and provided everything needed for our visit. We stayed in late October, perfect fall weather and enjoyed various hikes in Sleeping Bear. The leaf peeping was incredible. The view of Platte Lake was gorgeous, the water is so clear.
This was the perfect place to visit with our daughter during her fall break.
We brought our two dogs, thank you for opening your home to furry family members. They loved sitting on the little beach, watching the ducks float by.
Honor is very close to a lot of adorable towns. We hope to return in summer!

Rental was great! Could you promise good weather😂. Rain 8 of 10 days and really bad fishing. But sure enjoyed 2 days of sunshine 😀 thanks for a wonderful stay!

Our stay was simply wonderful. The home was super clean with nice amenities, the setting is spectacular, and we were close to many other activities, including Lake Michigan beaches and hiking trails. We would highly recommend a stay on Platte Lake!

A very peaceful, beautiful property that is situated so perfectly for sight seeing in the region. The quality of the gardens, decks, deck furniture, boats, life jackets, beach and lake water exceeded our expectations. The views of the lake are very good - both inside and outside the home.
We were impressed by the cleanliness of the home. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was nicely furnished. The bathroom was spotless and well lit. As it is pet friendly, there were no area rugs, making the feel of the interior a little austere. It is simply, but comfortably furnished. The host was most attentive, checking that we arrived without issue.
Over-all, a delightful stay in a gorgeous environment!

Beautiful lake property, also has a guest house. Much bigger than it looks. We loved that the owner left an activity book with all of their favorite things to do in the area! We went on the Old Indian Trail, Empire Bluff Trail, and went to Port Betsie to see the lighthouse. All were excellent! There are also kayaks and a canoe. Great property and location!

We enjoyed our quick getaway with our pup. While it wasn’t peak time it was great for us as our pup is nervous away from home. The waffle maker didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed a canoe ride and hiking Old Indian Trail.

My husband and I (and our pup Archie) came for some much-needed R & R and to celebrate our 35th Anniversary. We fell in love with the location as soon as we arrived! The wooded private drive leading to a large yard that is beautifully landscaped and the cutest little guest house! The owner called to check in with us right as we arrived to make sure all was good – and it was! The home is beautiful, so clean and welcoming! Of course, the first thing we noticed as we entered the home was the gorgeous view of the lake! Although we had extremely cold temps, rain and very high winds for most of our trip we did several road trips and enjoyed just “chilling” in the house – (the views are awesome no matter the weather!) and we were still able to get a canoe ride in and enjoy some time on the deck relaxing and enjoying the peace and tranquility of the gorgeous lake! We also managed to get in some hiking and some visits to Glen Arbor and Empire – 2 of our favorite towns that are only about a 20 min ride. The three days with the rain and high winds provided magnificent views of Lake MI.
We were only able to stay 4 days on this trip – BUT will be planning an upcoming trip (hopefully Oct 2023) for the entire week! It is already giving us something to look forward to! Everything about this experience was excellent!

This is the second year we traveled to Stephen’s property for our wedding anniversary. We absolutely love it and enjoy coming up every year! As always, Stephen is great and the views are impeccable. We bring our pups and they love swimming in the lake. See you next year!

This place is in the most amazing location! The views are breathtaking and the accommodations are great. We found the place to be very clean and stocked with all the necessary amenities. The location is a perfect hub for biking, hiking, and kayaking by day and delicious dining and campfires by night. Across the week we did some of each! If you're looking for great views and a central location to all the adventures the Sleeping Bear Nation Lakeshore offer, this is the spot! We would definitely return.

Our group of two couples found the cottage comfortable, spacious, and in a perfect location for exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes. We enjoyed all the paddling and hiking within 15 minutes of the cottage and appreciated the kayaks available with the rental. If there wasn't so much to do nearby, we could have spent the week just enjoying the view across the lake. Owner Stephen was responded promptly to all communications and called as we arrived to be sure that check in had gone smoothly.

This property is located on a nice spot on Platte Lake. It is also just two minutes away from the National Lakeshore. The owner is responsive to questions. You will also find that the kitchen is well-equipped as well. We will definitely spent time here again in the future.

Unfortunately because of work we arrived late and then within an hour or so of arriving we received a message from home that we needed to leave. So we were at the property for just a very short time. Not long enough to really explore. But reading a few excerpts from the guestbook it’s obvious people truly enjoy their stay. And the lake is beautiful.
Stephen provided very precise instructions and information about activities in the area. He was very responsive when it came to communicating.

My family has stayed at this property multiple times over the last 10+ years. Each and every time has been a positive experience, gets better each stay, and keeps us coming back. Location is ideal; situated on an ideal sized lake (big enough to not seem busy/noisy, small enough to not be always seems rough/choppy), perfect location on the lake (shallow for perhaps 100+ yards - perfect for younger kids and pets), neighbors are quiet, perfect location to access other lakes, towns, restaurants, shopping, bike/hiking tails, wineries/vineyards, and many other things to do. The home(s) itself sits away from the main road (nice and quiet, space enough to keep the kids and pets safe), is always cleaned well and has all the amenities required, so do not need to overpack.
On top of a great property and location, the owner is the absolute best. Very attentive, detailed, responsive, has great recommendations and always, always a pleasure to speak with. You will not regret staying here; a perfect spot, property and owner to ensure you can relax, regain some balance and recharge.

Our group of four (two couples) had a wonderful visit. The location was a great jumping off point to see the surrounding area, but we also loved spending time at the house - coffee on the porch, fires right on the lake, taking the kayaks out on the water. Water was too cold for swimming during the first week of May, but would be the perfect spot to swim and float during the summer months. Would definitely book again!
