Property was perfect for a family wonderful on-site pool, tennis and convenient cart ride to a perfect beach for young children. We were doing with out son and grandchildren what we did with him 40 years ago.

We loved this condo and the resort in general. The resort has excellent amenities - great pool, wonderful beach nearby, restaurants with good food and drinks.
The condo has an incredible lanai which is in the shade most of the day. We rented all three bedrooms for our family of 6 adults and it never felt crowded and we all had our own private spaces, which is nice.
The kitchen is nicely appointed and they have a lot of gear in each of the bedrooms with things like boogie boards and beach chairs.
The only issue is the mattresses were old and uncomfortable.
Overall we've had a wonderful stay and seriously you don't get a better view.

This was our second time on Kauai and second time at Hanalei Bay Resort. For us, the views are unmatched. Our lanai had views of the mountains, bay and sunsets. The resort pool, whirlpool and overall ambiance are fantastic. Our favorite place weever been.

The resort was absolutely beautiful! Loved the pool and the hot tub. The rooms were very nice and clean. The kitchen amenities were great with newer appliances. The view from all three rooms were lovely. I don’t understand why some people gave this condo a bad rating. We were nothing but pleased. The staff was wonderful and accommodating. I believe the is one of the oldest resorts on the island that had a true Hawaiian feel and cultural experience. We definitely hope to go back in the future. Thank you!!!

Do not stay here if you don’t want cockroaches in your room. We booked all three bedrooms. This place is not clean or well-maintained and unbelievably we killed TWO cockroaches in our bedroom in one day (and the room smelled mildewy the entire trip). We asked management for a refund because that is completely unacceptable and they HAVE NOT RESPONDED to our request.
The maintenance in this unit was very disappointing. There were outlets with broken cover plates, exposing the wiring. We have an 18 month old child with us and this was an extremely dangerous situation to have to continuously monitor. This type of poor maintenance was present all over the unit with carpet coming apart, strange holes in the wall, and extremely dirty and cracked floor tiles throughout. Our bed frame was broken and the sheets were paper thin. It’s clear this owner is trying to operate on a shoestring budget to maximize profits at the expense of the guests.
It was also disappointing that most restaurants at the resort were closed or operating limited hours. That was not made clear to us when booking. Also we did not receive any housekeeping even though this unit was at a resort. That also was not made clear in the booking.
We paid an exorbitant amount to stay here and could not be more disappointed. Don’t waste your money.

WOW, what a view
Our family of 6 stayed for a week and the condo could not have been any better. plenty of room for 3 teens to have privacy as well as the adults. The view form the balcony was stunning every single day. The pool was super nice. The walk to the beach can be a little daunting. It's straight down a curvy hill and back up, but the resort will send a shuttle tp pick you up and drop off. Would 100% stay here again.

The view was great, but the communication with the property management was horrible. The air conditioner in the furthest west bedroom of the rental was the only one that was off when we checked in, so I know they were aware it was not working. It spit out water when I turned it on, but I thought nothing of it at the time. When I returned to that room about an hour later, there was a sizable puddle of water on the floor under the unit and water raining from it. I notified property management through VRBO and heard nothing so contacted them via phone and left a message. Heard no response (we left and went to dinner) and the unit was off when we returned. I turned it back on and had to put a large storage tote under it to collect the water running out (it was very hot in the bedroom and no air conditioning was not an option) and tried to contact property management again and also called the front desk. The dripping noise all night was impossible to sleep with and made staying there miserable. Contacted property management again and insisted something be done and was told to place something under it to catch the water and they would have someone out the next day to try to fix it. It was never fixed during our stay and the constant dripping noise left us unrested and miserable. Also, the wind blew one of the doors between the units closed and there was no way to get into that unit without being let back in by maintenance. This could pose a safety hazard if you have young children. The resort is old and could use updating. No food or drink available on property the day we arrived. Saving grace was the view. If we come back, will try to stay somewhere with a similar view, but not here.

Location was absolutely ideal for our needs - principally surfing in Hanalei Bay, beachgoing, snorkeling and hiking. The resort amenities were great, including the pool, tennis courts, restaurant on-site and available barbeque grills. We utilized the resort concierge ahead of arrival to arrange a park hike, botanical garden tour, a luau and a kayak/hiking excursion. The view from our 3rd floor accommodation was spectacular! Parking was easy. Sometimes it was difficult to tell who to contact for various needs, as management seems shared between the VRBO property manager and the on-site Hanalei Bay Resort staff, but we had very few needs and nothing really impacted our enjoyment of the property. The kitchen was terrific and well stocked with plates, glasses, silverware and all we needed for meal prep and cooking. Nearby Foodland was very convenient and well stocked. The washer and dryer located right in our suite was a HUGE plus and were quite new and efficient, likewise the dishwasher and fridge! The furniture in the units could use some updating. We appreciated the use of LED lighting in the units for environmental reasons, but the illumination was poor and made reading at night difficult. Overall, our stay was fantastic, and we would return there in the future if the opportunity arises!

We had a wonderful time playing at the beach, enjoying family and celebrating a tropical Christmas. The condo was clean and stocked with plenty of supplies for our stay.

Amazing Views
Excellent rental. Loved the location and the views were out of this world. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place in Kauai.

This property has the most stunning mountain and water views. It looks like a green screen in all of the pictures, and in real life, it was hard to believe we were waking up to this view every day. Honestly, I wish we sat around more and just stared out of the balconies :-). Sounds silly, but we were very active on this trip, and I could have used a bit more down time to soak in the views even more than we were able to. The kitchen was fantastic, fully equipped with a large 14 cup coffee machine. The refrigerator was nice and big. I think there was even a double oven (which we didn't use). We had all the essentials to cook and clean up easily. Beds were pretty comfortable, rooms large and spacious. A balcony with beautiful views off each room. The master bedroom shares a balcony with the common space balcony (it is massive). The unit as a whole is not updated (the kitchen is newer) but it was a non issue. There were some cob webs and crumbs in one of the rooms, but everything else was pretty tidy. One of the shower mounts was broken, but there was a rain shower to utilize instead so it was a non-issue. This was a great place for a bigger family that still wants it's own privacy and go into their own "wing"/room at night. A few things that were a bit wonky, but ultimately not a big issue - there is no shared/common space bathroom. All of the bathrooms are tied to a room. Which is totally fine just something to keep in mind. Also, since this is 3 units together, they still have the separating doors between each unit that can accidentally get locked. This can cause an issue since there are multiple entrances (an outdoor entrance into each unit) and some of the entrances into the units lock automatically. Maintenance had to come one time to open a unit for us because of this. They said 20 minutes, took more like 1 hour and 20 minutes, but again, more time to soak in views. Overall, we love Hanalei Bay Resort in general. We've been before. It is large but still feels quiet. There is a lovely pool, hot tub, and beach access (a bit of a walk but will golf cart you down if needed). Gym is small but gets the job done and open 24/7. They have tennis courts and grills which we did not use, but would have liked to. Happy Talk restaurant on site. Staff was lovely. We wish the pool bar was open more (it closed mon-wed) but understand that with the pandemic, things just aren't the same right now and many places are understaffed. Overall - MAGICAL stay :)

Awesome location for family vacation
The rental condos were spacious and clean. Unbelievable views of hanalei bay. Sunsets were spectacular! The resort was well maintained and staff friendly. Can't wait to return

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The condo unit is large enough to comfortably accommodate 9 people. The swimming pool was a hit with the kids and the beach (albeit a short, steep walk) had some of the best snorkeling on the island (wear water shoes!). The views of Hanalei Bay and the hour long morning rainbows were nothing short of magic. The name Hanalei Bay Resort is a little deceiving though as we thought we would be much closer to the actual town of Hanalei. Please note that the entrance to this resort is indeed in Princeville and the beach access is in the easternmost part of Hanalei Bay. All in all, I would definitely recommend this place to others - beautiful grounds, great amenities and spectacular views depending on which condo you stay in!

Condo was great with upgrades to bathrooms and kitchen. Breathtaking views and generous lanai. I don’t think there is a bad view in the entire complex. Staff were friendly and so helpful. The dresser in our room was musty and unusable because the smell transferred onto clothes but this was minor. Several of the keys we were given to access the unit did not work so we had to return to reception a couple of times. The bedrooms can be separate units or connected to the main unit, but that means the doors connecting the units are one-sided (and doorknob on one side only) making it easy to lock yourself on one side.. Additionally, the external door knobs can only be opened with a key. My 2yo shut himself himself in a bedroom and none of the keys to the external bedroom door worked - fortunately I was able to open the external door by reaching my arm through the flimsy screen on the window next to the door and turning the knob. The resort cut us new keys after this incident. The doors bolt on the inside so it felt safe and secure while we were inside, but easy to break into if the bolt was not engaged (we didn’t have many valuables so this did not bother us, but it may be important to others).
Unfortunately for us the pool was unusable because it was so cold and the bottom was rough. We’ve stayed on the north shore at other resorts during the cold/rainy season and those pools were still warm enough to swim in. The hot tub was a warm haven, but a lot of the original stone was patched with concrete that was rough and scratched up our feet if we weren’t careful. The sandy area for kids was unusable because it was so small and didn’t have enough sand to cover the rocky concrete ledge. Be sure to bring water shoes if you plan to use hot tub or pool. They have any equipment you may need to rent, however the rental shop was unpredictably closed at times.
In summary, Hanalei Bay Resort is a great place for anyone focused on the many great things Kaua’i has to offer - tennis, golf, hiking, kayaking, beaches, surfing, paddle boarding, mountain-gazing, etc. I do not recommend it for anyone who wants pool time. We were traveling with small children so this aspect, in addition to the safety concerns of locking doors, was not a good fit for our family.
