About this cottage rental
The Stone House (second floor completely renovated) sets into the side of a hill directly on pristine Star Lake. The house front is a covered terrace directly on the lake. This is a tranquil spot, located on a 40+ acre private wooded point of land over a quarter mile from the main road, where you can relax and get away from it all.
Summers are fantastic. Autumn is beautiful in the Adirondacks. Consider staying for a long weekend, or splurge for an entire week. Enjoy our terrace, the lake, the trees, and our inviting fireplace.
The Stone House property features a private dock with a tied-on floating dock, a fireplace, a car park, a terrace, and a private garage. The Stone House sleeps up to nine —master bedroom with a queen bed; twin bedroom with a double bed, bunk beds, and a loft; sleeping porch with a double and twin ( Casper and Leesa mattresses)—an en suite full master bath, and a full hall bath with new tiled shower. Downstairs features a complete kitchen, living room with a large window seat and warming stone fireplace (stocked from a private wood shed just outside the house), and a private, covered terrace overlooking the lake. Enjoy the quiet, the ducks, the loons, the smell of a good fire.
Enjoy boating on the lake on our two kayaks, canoe, or paddle board, or take the canoe to the Oswegatchie River; lots of local hiking too.

This amazing house was the perfe t getaway for our family! It had everythi g we needed and more in terms of kitchen, bedding and supplies for lake. My children were out on the water playing the entire stay! It was conveniently located to the general stores. While we were there we booked for the following year! Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your awesome house!

Magical week at The Stone House for this Californian family! Huge thank you to the owners for sharing such a gem on the lake. Clean, cozy and comfortable. Morning and evening swims in the lake, canoeing alongside the loons and a crackling fire every evening—we loved every minute of our stay. Looking forward to returning someday. Highly recommend!

The Stone House is the place to unwind. The lake was right off our commodious patio at the back door. With coffee or cocktails, the view is delightful. Clean and dry inside, good housekeeping, makes coming in from lake activities a pleasure.
Warm wood tones with burgundy and navy accents throughout the house add to the peace. We enjoyed the blend of vintage and new to the max inside and out. We brought back old memories and created new ones. Nice people on the lake. No rush - 12 o'clock check out time the best!

This home is absolutely perfect in every way. To begin, Rich, answered all my questions prior to the trip quickly and graciously. Once you drive down the road to the Stone House, you immediately feel as though you are the only family on the lake. It is built into a hill and directly on the water. Very private. The beautiful stone path to the door of the house is well lit and has a unique, real wood railing. I opened the door and felt like I had come home. The photos that are shown so not do justice to the interior of the home. The beautiful natural wood throughout the home give it warmth and character. The house was spotless. When Rich said you just need to bring your food and clothes…that is accurate! I was very impressed with the amount of cozy blankets, crisp linens, towels, and more. Now the kitchen…it has a view of the lake from the windows so I never felt that I was missing out on anything when I was inside preparing meals. The kitchen is fully stocked with every size/shape pan/pot/dish! I cannot think of one thing that it needed. They have EVERYTHING you would need! We spent our days and nights on the beautiful stone deck and wooden docks. Rich and Abbie have a cozy, authentic Adirondack Stone House that is truly one of a kind. Do not pass up an opportunity to stay here!

Rustic Lakeside Gem
If you are looking for a classic Adirondack cabin experience, you have found the right property. This is a magical little place set directly on the shores of Star Lake. DIRECTLY, it has the amazing feel of a boathouse. We spent four nights there over Father’s Day weekend, and my only sadness with the trip is that we did not have a full week. My husband and I shared the cottage with our two children (13, and 11 years) and my husband’s parents, It was the perfect size for the six of us and had everything we could need, although it turned out that our needs were very little. Although the kitchen could easily support cooking a fancy meal, and the little living room was totally cozy with its reading nook and fireplace, we found ourselves spending the entire time OUTSIDE on the dock. We grilled outside, ate outside, read outside, played outside and laid on the dock at night and watched the Milky Way stretch across the sky. I was eternally jealous of my children who scored the prime bedding on the sleeping porch, but have warned them that when we return, that spot is MINE! Rich was wonderful to work with, responsive to our needs and the information about the cottage was so thorough that we never felt ourselves wondering where something was that we needed. Neighbors are super-friendly, and although the occasional jet ski found its way through the channel, the most common vessel we saw were the puttering dock-boats making their way to the sandbar, and.that just added to the charm of the place. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all, look no further!

A little slice of heaven
Just back from a week at The Stone House with its simple charms and beautiful surroundings. Grateful to escape the heat of home, we embraced the cool mornings and enjoyed the delightful afternoons. Every night we had a fire going until we went to bed, sometimes as early as 9 pm. Great place to disconnect from the world (though the wifi worked perfectly when needed).
The kitchen had just about everything we needed. My only negative is the lack of big coffee mugs (you need a generous cup of coffee when sitting outside in the morning to help keep you warm) and bowls for soup. Otherwise, we had everything we needed.
We did 2 day trips. One up to Ogdensburg (an hour north) to The Frederic Remington Museum. It's a wonderful place in a gorgeous 19th century home. His paintings and sculptures do not disappoint! We also took a longer ridge (2+ hours) down to Old Forge and did a cruise on the Fulton Chain of lakes. Old Forge is a busy town full of shops, restaurants, b&b's, etc. Lots to see and do there if you want to hang out after the 2-hour cruise.
The local grocery (Great American) had most of what we needed and we also visited the hardware store. Heading north on route 3 we also visited the bakery (UB's) and Adirondack furniture store where we purchased a few treats to eat and some souvenirs of our visit, all reasonably priced based on what we'd pay at home for the same things. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful to the point where you begin to wonder if you shouldn't just pack up your things and stay there forever.
My only negative, is the access to the house from the parking pad. You have to walk down 6-8 steps of stone built into the side of the slope. I have arthritis in both knees so going down the stairs was challenging. I am happy that I thought to bring a trekking pole with me. It gave me more balance and I was more comfortable going downhill. Other than that, I couldn't think of a nicer spot to truly get away from it all and still have everything you need.

Outstanding Lake House - Exactly What We Hoped
The Stone House is a perfect house on a beautiful lake. It is is a true old school Adirondack camp style cabin sitting right on the lake. Our family loved how the original features have been left in place and not marred by misguided attempts at modernization. It has the feel of old fashioned cabin, but with just the right modern conveniences- the water is strong and as hot as you want for showers. The Wi-Fi works well. And the Master BR mattress is perfect. We enjoyed family card games by the fireplace, and some of us slept out on the sleeping porch even on a pretty chilly evening. We enjoyed the sounds of the loons at night.
The location is perfect. We visited for our daughter’s graduation from St. Lawrence University, which is only about 40 minutes away, and then stayed for a few days after. We made easy side trips to Lake Placid one day, and just over to Tupper Lake for a casual dinner from the food trucks at the Raquette River brewing company.
Our family wants to come again. We highly recommend the Stone House, and Rich was a great host.

Sthe Stone House is a piece of Heaven
The Stone House is everything that you dream about for a getaway of peace, beauty and connecting with nature. Close enough to drive to Saranac Lake or Lake Placid for shopping, visiting the Olympic Center, or mountain climbing. Bring your comfy clothes, light a fire in the fireplace, and snuggle in.

Beautiful fall weekend
Such a beautiful setting! The leaves were at their peak, and our stay on the lake was peaceful and serene. A few suggestions for the house...a sofa in the living room, in addition to the loveseat, would be nice, especially for larger groups (we had 7). Also, it is unclear in the Stone House description that the screened in porch does not have windows that can actually be closed. It was too chilly for us to sleep on this time of year. But overall, we really enjoyed staying here, and the house is well stocked.

Perfect lake getaway if your looking for charm and coziness.
The cabin lies at the end of a long driveway that runs between the banks of Star Lake and an old stone retaining wall. From the time we drove in and realized how beautiful and how private the cabin was, we were already sold on the property. The accommodations were great, and I especially loved the claw foot bathtub (there are actually two.) We had a fantastic two night stay here with our two oldest puppies and it was truly magical. The Stone House was our favorite stay out of all the places we visited over our 11 day trip. The sunrise here is stunning in its beauty and peacefulness. The fog danced on the water and made it even more memorable. We will definitely visit here again when we travel near Star Lake!

Wonderful experience with 3 people. I think4-6 would be the ideal number guests.
The cabin/cottage has bedrooms on the parking level and kithchen/living room on lake level. It is a good set up but no half bath on lake level.
Full kitchen has all you need except your food. No outdoor campfire but living room has fireplace giving the room a smoky campfire scent. The sunrise from the sleeping porch is worth sleeping in a cooler environment. Lake is clear, quiet and gorgeous with wonderful kayaks and paddle board!

Classic Adirondack lakefront property on Star Lak
We chose The Stone House for a family reunion of four retired couples -- two sisters, two brothers, and spouses.
The property sits right on Star Lake with a lovely floating dock. The property furnishes two kayaks, and we also brought our own canoes, so we spent much of our time exploring the many coves and extensive shoreline of Star Lake. The property does sleep 8, but is probably better suited to a family of 8 due to sleeping configuration: one bedroom with double bed, second bedroom with two single beds, screened in sleeping porch with one double bed and one single bed, and finally a largish window seat with mattress in the first floor living room. Mattresses were a bit lumpy and in need of replacement, but we managed just fine.
The kitchen was fitted with new gas stove/oven and refrigerator, and worked very well for our group. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Two bathrooms were also great, one with a claw-foot tub, the second with combination claw-foot tub/shower. We had fantastic weather, and took virtually all our meals at the picnic table on the dock.
Only real complaint, which we shared with owners, is unfortunate tradition of occasional floating deck parties that roam the lake after dark (9:00-11:00-ish). We endured 3 of these during our 6 night stay, and because the sound carries across the lake, those of us in the sleeping porch were subject to these loud and boisterous parties late into the night. On the flip side, once the parties ended, the occasional calls of loons across the lake filled the air. Quite a contrast!
Three off-site trips we recommend included a visit to The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, lunch at The Well Dressed Food Company in downtown Tupper Lake, and the 1-mile hike up to the Mt. Arab fire tower.
All in all, can't recommend this property enough. We had a fun-filled, action-packed, and thoroughly relaxing week in the Adirondacks!

Wow!
This is a great place to relax. Beautiful, historic, rustic cabin....serene lake...and everything you need to enjoy your stay. Plenty of supplies, games, kayaks, paddle board, and fresh air. The owner is great to work with and is very responsive. I would stay here again and again and again...

Very quiet and peaceful location.
My favorite room in the house was the sleeping porch. It was a great spot to sit and read a book. Having a dock right on the lake was great.

Great spot - good times
Had a great time. Everything that was promised was there. We didn't catch a damn fish (that we could keep) but we had a fantastic time. Would definitely recommend.

Great weekend
We loved our stay in this rustic but more than well equipped house. We loved the kayaks, paddle board and sleeping on the screened in porch, waking to the jumping fish. We were able to prepare all our meals-from crab legs in the large pot, steaks on the grill and mornin bacon in the cast iron pans. The lake was beautiful and clean. It is located in a cove area. The home is located directly on the water, so not a lot of room for games on the lawn if that's your thing. We enjoyed laying on the deck and fishing. My dog loved swimming off the shore too. Thanks to Rich and Abby for making us feel like we were staying at a friends. The only things you need to bring are food and beach towels.

Fantastic Rental
The Stone House is a beautiful and authentic Adirondack cabin that is on a fantastic piece of property on Star Lake. Rich has seen to every detail and even provided a comprehensive handbook over email that had lots of great info about the property and area.
While the house is rustic, the bathrooms are clean and the shower is stellar. The beds were comfortable and the sleeping porch was an experience for my friends on a chilly October night. The water and shoreline are perfect for swimming off the dock and it drops down to over 6 feet rather quickly.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Stone House and I hope to return soon.
