About this house rental

Location, Location, Location! Newly renovated charming cottage style home located in the sought after East Chop area of Oak Bluffs. Fabulous front porch for people watching and private backyard with wonderful area for al fresco dining. With 4 bedrooms and 2 baths, it can comfortably sleep 7 people . Walking distance to Circuit Ave. the active town center, Oak Bluffs Harbor, the beach and East Chop Lighthouse, its quiet location provides a nice contrast and retreat. This is a non smoking property. There is parking for two cars in the driveway. Sankofa Studio, our fabulous studio apartment is listed separately.

We distended on the Vineyard for the first time as a family vacation and had a ball. As you know it is very difficult to find housing if you’re new to the process. The owners were very nice, communicative, and gave us pointers on how to navigate the nuances of visiting the island. The house was great and the pictures do not do the home justice as far as it’s amenities and proximity to all the things to do. Overall an amazing property and amazing stay for my family and I.

These homeowners have done a great job packing this historic house full of modern comforts. They really understand the activities we were on the Vineyard for- time with family, beach, roaming the island, enjoying the neighborhood- and the house is well provisioned and decorated. The only reason we would not return is the staircase is (normal) but steep for my over 80 parents. Thank you Marc and Kathryn!

We were visiting the Vineyard for my son's wedding and had a house full (my four 18+ kids, my wife, and I). The house was beautiful and so comfortable for all of us. Mark and Kathryn are outstanding hosts making our check in and stay absolutely smooth and easy. Living rooms and the back patio areas are so well designed we had wonderful times together cooking and eating together. The location is optimal for those wanting to visit Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Thank you so much for a great stay!

We enjoyed having some of our family stay in this home. It was clean, convenient, and had a great outdoor area. Plus, it is close to the ferry terminal, the gingerbread homes, and the marina. We also appreciated having a full bathroom and a daybed on the ground floor as it was necessary for one of our family members.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Quiet neighborhood, steps to marina and house was warmly appointed with all the amenities of home. Only drawback were the small bathrooms. Very clean and our adult children enjoyed the many places to entertain inside and outside the house. Homeowners were very responsive to our questions.

We Enjoyed the property with my wife and adult children. We really appreciated the convenient location and nice amenities at the house including AC, which you don't always need on MV, but was a good week for it. Fun to hang out in backyard after the beach and use outdoor shower! Would definitely stay again!

We had a great time at Sankofa. My husband, our two littles, and two grandparents came with us. We were able to walk to the beach, walk to shopping, and walk to all the food! The house wasn't 'on top of' downtown too - which was nice - because it wasn't loud which allowed the kids not to wake up at night. Overall - would recommend!

We absolutely loved our stay. We went for the weekend with a group of friends and couldn’t have gotten a better spot. The backyard is the perfect place to hang out as the sun sets and make some memories playing cards and listening to music. It’s a gorgeous and modern home with infinite thoughtful touches less than a 10 min walk from center of oak bluffs. Couldn’t recommend more!

This place is everything and more. We came for a girls weekend and the house was so cute. So clean, great location. 10 min walk down town. The owner was so nice she answered all my questions and was so accommodating with everything we asked for. We will 100% be booking again and can’t wait! Can’t say enough on how great this place was. Outdoor patio was so cute the only thing was the twinkle lights we couldn’t get to work which made it a little dark but other than that zero complaints.

We had a terrific time at this lovely home. There was plenty of space for our group. We really enjoyed all the outdoor areas. The kitchen was well stocked as we cooked many dinners at home. It was our first time on Martha’s Vineyard and hope to return!

Our stay at Sankofa was wonderful. The house was comfortable, clean and well appointed, the communication was stellar, and the location can't be beat. My favorite part of the house, however, was the backyard! Between the hummingbirds that visited during the daylight hours to the twinkling lights that turned on in the evening, this space was truly magical.

My family and I had the most enjoyable time at the spectacularly beautiful home of Mark and Kathryn. Let me first say that the decor was transformative and instantly put our family in a warm Ghanan spirit to start our vacation. Their home was immaculately clean and fresh and each room was equally breathtaking!! I had not even started to enjoy the Vineyard because I was overwhelmed with the comfort that Sankofa House offered (it was tough to leave everyday because I just want to relax and enjoy the peace of our rental)!! Every iminity was available throughout the house and we loved every moment. Marc and Katryn (the homeowners) are beautiful people and I had the extra perk to actually be able to tell them in person how much I enjoyed their home. I could not have organized a more perfect vacation. I look forward to returning next year to take in the beauty and hospitality that only Martha's Vineyard and it's homeowners can give. I highly recommend Marc and Kathryn's Sankofa home as a five star rental. Thank you both so very much!!! Return, Go, Look See and Take

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at this property. I'm so sad it was a little too chilly to take advantage of the gorgeous backyard! I was enchanted by the fairy lights in the shrub wall. House was spotless and easy to find, a short walk to all the shops. There is a restaurant literally 250 feet away and a convenience store not much further away. The owners were very communicative and check in was accomplished via an app on your phone, which was new to me but very easy to use. The only thing I'd say to future travelers is that if anyone in your party has a hard time with stairs, this may not be the property for you. All the bedrooms are up a narrow staircase with shallow steps that have a lip on the edge to prevent you from slipping off but is really uncomfortable on bare feet, and people with big feet will have trouble fitting them on these stairs. However, this is a very comfortable lounge downstairs that is about the size of a twin bed, so that could easily be a sleeping are for anyone who has trouble with the stairs. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

We loved it! Very charming house with all the comforts and conveniences of home in a quiet neighborhood. A cozy backyard with a few seating areas and a fire pit to enjoy in the evenings. Walking distance to the shopping area in Oaks Bluff. Looking forward to coming back someday.
