About this villa rental
Take your family, friends or colleagues on a vacation that they will always remember and cherish at The Malinche Palace.
The Malinche Palace is an astonishing villa designed by the world-famous architect Víctor Cañas, who is known for his contemporary style and utile approach to architecture.
The villa is located in Playa Ocotal on the top of a hill, giving it a truly breathtaking panoramic view of the beach, the ocean, and the stunning mountains and surrounding jungle of Costa Rica. With that, the house is still only 8 minutes walk from the beach, accessed by your own staircase. Additionally, the property is 8 minutes drive from the Playas Coco Downtown, as well as only 32 minutes away from the Liberia Airport.
The house’s design gracefully blurs the line between indoor/outdoor living, with floor to ceiling glass, picture windows, and open areas. This open feel creates an atmosphere of tranquility and connection with nature, while still allowing complete privacy in each guest room.
The property has eight air-conditioned bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom, with a total of ten king beds. Each bedroom has its own spirit and style, giving each guest a unique and luxurious experience during their stay.
The detached casita is cliffside with a world-class ocean view, master suite, luxury bathroom, and private balcony.
Adjoining the main house is a two-story apartment with two upstairs bedrooms, a separate kitchenette, and dining area.
The Malinche Palace is ideally suited for family members of all ages, a couple’s retreat, corporate getaways, or the perfect destination wedding.
Overall, the house is estimated to fit 20 people, and if needed, the couches and air mattresses can be used to accommodate up to 30 people.
A spacious common area connects the main kitchen and BBQ area allowing your loved ones to truly enjoy each other’s company while being surrounded by the beauty of Costa Rica.
After a day at the beach, for a cozy night in, spend your evening in the movie room complete with TV, comfy couches, and a fully operating movie theatre. Or, spend your evening watching a beautiful sunset and the ocean view straight from the private pool while drinking a cold drink, then finish your day with a snuggle in the Jacuzzi.
The Malinche Palace also has an ample green area allowing you to do yoga, read, and lounge while enjoying the beautiful garden.
Property rental includes a cleaning service as well as access to the Coco Beach Club which has a gym, tennis court, and a large pool.
One of our most popular requests is our chef service, available upon request for an additional charge, allowing you to fully enjoy the taste of Costa Rica.
Our discerning guests are also pleased to learn that solar panels provide a large portion of the power used for greater sustainability as we help to preserve the natural beauty of our enchanting land.
With the utmost thought and care given in creating The Malinche Palace, there are far too many delightful surprises and amenities to list here!
Our greatest desire is to make your stay with us a dream come true, and we are more than happy to help you with

Very nice property and it is good for up to seven couples group

14 of us celebrated together and had a wonderful time. The host couldn’t have been more accommodating. She communicated great and always responded quickly if we had any questions. The chef service was worth every penny. Food was great and all the additional staff were amazing as well. The area was safe, the house was well stocked, and Mauricio was icing on the cake. He was so attentive to all of our needs and made everything happen for us without any hiccups! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a large space, love outdoors, sunsets and beautiful views!

We were celebrating a friends 40th birthday with 7 couples. The house was amazing and setup perfectly for everyone to have there own space with a great common area and pool to hang out together. We will most definitely be back with our kids to enjoy the experience! Julia was a fantastic host and made sure we had everything we needed. The rest of the staff was top-notch as well!!

I hoated my annual womens retreat at this location. Everything was as described & the pictures do not do this beautiful home justice. Julia was very helpful and attentive, helping to ensure we had everything we needed leading up to the trip.
Mauricio and Team were very helpful in planning excursions and getting us around. I recommend planning to use their transportation service instead of Uber due to the personalization of the experience and attentiveness of the drivers.
The house was cleaned daily and the cleaning team did a wonderful job as well. I can’t say enough things about this home and the level of service and care provided. Looking forward to returning.

We only saw the owner at check in. We used Mauricio for all transportation and event planning. He’s wonderful! Very accommodating and gave suggestions for outings, grocery shopping and dining. The house is beautiful, but it’s outside living. All bedrooms have ac, but the rest does not. The views are gorgeous!

Julia was great to communicate with. She provided all the necessary information like driver info, which made my stay easier and was always available to answer any questions that I had. The property came with a housekeeping staff which made sure all the rooms were clean.
Overall the property is stunning with breathtaking views from every angle. Some of the bedrooms need updating and had some minor cosmetic flaws like defective/ not working led mirror lights, outdated sinks and decor. Some areas like the guest house could use a fresh coat of paint to revive the overall aesthetics of the rooms.
I would not recommend using their “personal chef” that comes with the property. The chef doesn’t cook on site and the meals were not what I had selected from the menu I was provided with. I had originally intended to use the chef for the entire trip but I cancelled after day 2 and when I realized the chef wasn’t on site to cook for us. The housekeepers were the ones bringing the breakfast and lunch over to our villa. ..Which were the exact meals both days, no variety or change. There are many restaurants nearby that you will enjoy or stock your groceries beforehand if you’ll be cooking. The freezer section of refrigerator in the kitchen was not working so only a half of it was able to be used.
Our driver Mauricio and his partner Herman that was recommended by Julia were amazing! They were always available anytime we wanted to go anywhere or needed anything. Highly recommend them!!!!
Overall my group and I had a terrific vacation in Costa Rica at the Malinche Palace.

I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a getaway. It is wonderful to be walking distance to the beach with amazing views inside & out.
This place is a gem of a place to stay for many unexpected reasons.
First of all, the chef is exceptional. We would highly recommend that people with young children who are looking for an amazing culinary experience book this place. The empanadas were as big as our heads. The sushi was a feast for the eyes and the bellies. The breakfasts were wholesome and filling. The desserts were incredible. We fed 8 picky eaters ages 5 to 9 and the kids devoured every single meal provided.
Secondly, there is a “private” access beach called Playa Gringo and if you are in decent enough shape to hike there (and it is quite an uphill and curvy hike) it is the softest sand and cool sea creatures. We saw only a couple people each time we visited - such serenity and curiosities.
We tremendously appreciated the cleaning staff. My 6 yr old was thrilled to have a girl (staff’s daughters) to play, eat, and play tag. The kids were thrilled to have another kid to play with and to listen to her Spanish words as she colored (“rojo” “Azul” etc).
The curtains are sheer in several rooms You need to be careful about your room selection and lights at night if you are modest.
Things I would do differently:
-I would have brought pillowcases
-Brought vacuum water bottles that keep ice water cold because neither the filtered tap drinking water nor the water cooler water were cold and even putting bottles in the freezer didn’t work.
-If I had known that the incredible chef is Filipino, I would have requested a Filipino meal for one of the nights.
-If I knew that jacuzzi means only bubbles and not warm water, I wouldn’t have gotten my hopes up. I’m a wimp and the pool and jacuzzi were too cold for me to enjoy. That being said, my husband loves a crisp cold dip on a hot day and the kids and my friends did not complain.
I absolutely wholeheartedly recommend this breathtaking home and kind hostess. The palace was gorgeous, comfortable, and fun. We saw interesting birds and plants right on the property in addition to the adorable lizards.
While other reviews had me worried about safety of property and bugs, we were not bothered by either (except for 1 night my legs were eaten by mosquitos because my daughter left the bedroom door open for 5 minutes w/ the lights shining). This was a carefree dreamy vacation. I hope many others will come!

Julia was a wonderful host and communicated quickly. The maids were so kind, did an excellent job, and chef service was very good! Used Mauricio for excursions and he was so personable and made everything more fun! Loved our stay, would definitely recommend!

Julia and her husband were great hosts we loved the way they took care of us. Even when calling them at night they always responded. The home is clean and well kept. The views are amazing also. I would highly recommend this home to friends and family.

We had a group of 12 people, including 3 couples and 3 singles. The property was perfect for this group. Although the property is slightly dated, everything was extremely well kept and inviting. The Hosts, Max and Julia were very attentive to our needs and request; simply great hosts. So much so that they started us off on day one with fresh sliced fruits and drinks, upon our arrival.
The kitchen area was the focal point, where everyone congregated daily for meals, drinks, swimming, laughs and pics.
We did have an issue with the kitchen refrigerator on the 3rd day, where all of our food had to be thrown away. Fortunately there was a regular sized refrigerator in one of the rooms that we used for the duration of the trip. It would have been nice jester to replace the food.
The rooms were clean, extremely comfortable and mostly bug free. Note to remember, you are in the brush and bugs are to be expected bit as long as we kept out light to a minimal at night(the lights will attract bugs and they may find a way in) it was fine.
Our transportation specialists, Mauricio and Herman were WONDERFUL! He didn't seem like our transportation specialist but like apart of the group, which made the experience even better. They arranged all excursions and shopping runs and they're end price was more than reasonable so tip them well. Also, the cleaning staff was great but one person in particular, that was at the villa most of the time, was extremely kind and personable, to the point that she felt like apart of our group. We really loved the staff!
In addition to the excursions and of course the property, Julia set us up with the local massage company and everyone agreed that it was THE BEST massage any of us EVER had. It was an hour long and was a quarter of the cost that we would normally pay at a nice spa in US. It is 200% worth it.
Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone because of the following:
1. Great Host (Thank you Julia and Max)
2. Lovely property
3. Staff feels like family
4. MAURICIO and HERMAN!
5. Great Location (about 35 min from airport)
6. Hidden Beach!
A few things to note:
1. The hidden/secluded beach amazing But....it is a hike, literally so any. If you are not in decent shape and have any nagging issues don't go.
2. Keep the lights off as much as possible during the evening.
3. Keep the kitchen clean at night, raccoons will clean up if you don't.
4. Relax, this is the perfect place for it.
PURA VIDA!

Malinche Palace is excellent. Julia, Max, Mauricio and Herman are simply the best. My first visit to Malinche was in March 2022 with family. I enjoyed the home and location so much that I knew I had to return. October 2022, I stayed again with my line sisters and we had a great time. The house, the meal, the drivers, Julia and Max is top notch! Book Malinche, you will not want to leave.

My extended family of 20 people all stayed on this beautiful property. Everything was easy access and owners were responsive. It's close enough to coco that we actually walked into town, though you need to be in decent shape with the hills. We loved our large community living area- all the kid had a blast!! Totally recommend.

Wonderful Mini Resort
I would classify this home as a mini resort. It is perfect for large groups, we had 14 and were very comfortable.
Julia was very responsive and kind. The maids were excellent in keeping place tidy. Maurice and his crew were the icing own the cake. You don't need to rent a vehicle , and set up excursions. He will do it all for you. He went as far to go get us Sandwich bags at local store. We used him for trip to La Fortuna, and I'm so glad we did. We were comfortable in an A/C travel bus while there was a tremendous rain storm. That would have been very challenging if we were to drive it.

An amazing stay
I want to Thank Max and Julia for an AMAZING experience. The house is huge and very safe. Soon as we walked into the House... We were in awwww of the Beauty of the property and the view. Each young lady that was with us was extremely happy. The customer service was outstanding and the housekeeper Gloria just was an adding blessing to the property. The Chef was good! The only thing I had a problem with was the Lobster was over cooked. Everyone was so gracious. Every referral we received was top notch and of a high caliber. Julia and Max were prompt with their response and stopped at nothing to satisfy our stay. This location will def be my home away from home.

Ups and downs
This was a girl's trip with 14 of my friends after a long 2 years of not traveling during covid. The house was extremely beautiful. Mauricio and German were absolutely AMAZING and took such good care of us from driving us all over, to planning our excursions to even just bringing us ice when we'd had to many cocktails to drive. Gloria and the other girls at the house were excellent talking care of the house and cleaning up after us and all our messes. We used the chef services which were also good, although limited for the vegetarian and vegan guests. All the women on the trip were very grateful to not have to "mom" at all during the week. We got massages the first day at the house that were some of the best any of us had had. I would say the double bedrooms might be alright for 4 children but are not big enough for more than 2 adults even with the 2 King beds.
Our first 3 days were pretty magical, unfortunately our trip took a turn. The house is advertised as gated. Which, yes, the driveway has a gate. Otherwise the property is accessible. On day 4, while a friend was napping on the couch downstairs in the smaller 2 bedroom house and the rest of us were all at the pool, in the middle of the day, the smaller house was broken into and we were robbed. They were able to get in through a bathroom window that doesn't have a lock on it and is not able to be secured. They got hundreds of dollars in cash, 2 laptops, multiple pairs of brand new sneakers as well as a backpack with 1 guests passport. Nothing was recovered. Mauricio went above and beyond helping us with this horrible situation. He brought us to stay at a resort our last 2 nights because none of us felt safe there at that point and on our final full day there 2 people had to spend the entire day driving almost 5 hours each way to the embassy to get a new passport just so they could get home. More than likely this could have been prevented with a window lock. Especially with the way they advertise it, we expected a little more.

Best Vacation Ever
I planned this trip as a surprise for my husband's 50th birthday and it was the best trip ever. This is the first time I/we stayed in a villa and it was amazing.
The pics you see of the villa online doesn't do the villa justice. It is absolutely beautiful.
Yuliya, who is the owner of the villa was there to greet us and give us the grand tour. Yuliya was very responsive while I was planning the trip and during our stay.
Her staff came in every day to clean the villa. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner a couple of times at the villa and everything we ate was very good. Hats off to the chef!!
We also used Mauricio and his team to takes us on our tours and to the supermarket a few times. They were absolutely great. Very friendly and responsive to our needs.
We weren't sure how the tips worked so we tipped Mauricio's team after every excursion and tipped Mauricio, the cleaning ladies and the chef when we checked out.
The only negative thing I would is the wifi is spotty. I could not get any work done while I was there. Also the hot water pressure in the Casita needs to be fixed.
The pool was amazing!! Funny thing though the water was cold during the day and warm at night.
If your considering renting this villa, you will not be disappointed.
Many thanks to Yuliya & her team for a wonderful stay.

Perfection in the sun
Our extended family enjoyed every moment of our stay in this gorgeous villa with spectacular views and a choice of two beaches within hiking distance. (Although best for those who are fit).
Our host Julia was on hand to assist with any questions and needs. We highly recommend the chef’s meals, in-villa massage and chauffeur/touring services by the amazing Mauricio. The villa layout ensures both privacy for individuals and large open air spaces to hang out together - so great for a multi-generation group like ours. It was hard to pull ourselves away to tour the area but we very much enjoyed ourselves when we did.

Absolutely Amazing - Stunning!
This property is unreal ! More beautiful than the pictures could possibly let on. Yuliya went above and beyond for our family and friends. She was ULTRA accommodating and we wanted for nothing. The maids, gardener and chef made the stay in this gorgeous property a perfect experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Aim to be the lucky one to draw the straw for the casita overlooking Playa Ocotal -! To die for!
Yuliya was also very gracious in showing us a private beach (slightly difficult incline and decline) - where we saw big tuna chasing their lunch, a ton of stingrays and many other colorful fish. Local fishermen welcomed my son and let him catch a few casting off the lava rocks to the side of the beach. Yuliya also showed us an easy walk to Playa Ocotal where we enjoyed the black sand warm water/waves - followed up by ice cold beers at sunset at Father Rooster beach front restaurant (another place I would highly recommend).
All in all if you ever get a chance to stay here you should 1000% do it! You will never regret the memories and the experience!

Amazing
This house is absolutely beautiful. The photos do it no justice. Max and Julie were amazing hosts, and Mauricio was an amazing driver. 10/10 would highly reccomend. The only thing I would suggest is to bring your own blanket, or do like we did and bought one at the local Walmart and to be prepared for bugs. You’re in the jungle, so they are expected. I wish we could’ve stayed longer.

Celebrating my 40th
Property fit us all well as, we had every room full. We had breakfast provided every morning which they serve huge portions, potentially could've order less. Housekeepers, professional and very sweet. We also, enjoyed massasages that were phenomenal. Maurico is the driver they recommended for the property, he was outstanding on communication with transportation to and from airport. He also set us up with golf carts to enjoy driving to Coco beach and throughout town. It made for awonderful way celebrate my birthday.

Incredible Home for a Group Getaway
We spent a long weekend at the Malinche Palace with 10 friends in celebration of my fiance's 30th birthday. Max and Julia were extremely attentive and helpful from the booking a year ago, to post checkout. They are incredible hosts. The home, as you can see by the pictures, is something out of a magazine. There is a perfect area for everyone to spend time together, and enough space for people to spend time on their own as desired. Everything we needed and more was available at the house.
The cleaning service provided was terrific, and truly allowed us to just enjoy ourselves without spending too much time cleaning.
We used the chef services for dinner on our first night and breakfast every morning and it was the best choice. The food was delicious, and plentiful, we had left overs we were able to pick at later in the day.
We reached out to Julia for assistance with two things during our stay and she was extremely responsive and helped us right away.
The location is great, the walk to the beach was easy and the local beach is so beautiful. Definitely go to Father Roosters!
We also used the transportation services recommended by Max and Julie, and they were terrific!
We can't wait to come back and truly can't recommend the Malinche Palace and Max and Julia as hosts enough!

Loved it!!! Thank you!!!
The pictures don't do the place justice. We had 20 people attend and we wish we had a video of the kids reaction to the place. The views are stunning and the place was great.
If we could give extra stars we would,
We had our Commitment Ceremony with our friends and family. The owner was super helpful and attentive. If there were any questions prior and during our stay they were more then happy to respond.
A big thank you to Julia and Max for everything.
Overall our experience was wonderful. The place was great. It was a easy walk to the beach.
In addition we had Julia recommend Maurico who helped us with tremendously. No need to rent a car. We had Maurico quote all our driving needs prior. We had him drive us from the airport to the Malinche Palace. We did a full day trip to Tamarindo to surf. He was fantastic and help organize other trips with our group.
This has been our best trips for our entire group. Between the house, chef service, excursions and ceremony a very memorable trip.
You cannot go wrong by coming here.

Fabulous palace
This place was palatial. All 19 of us, age 6 to 76, loved it.Perfect for our huge family. Fantastic views, outside flows inside, eixcellent layout. Eight en-suite bedrooms are gorgeous and well appointed with beautiful views.
Long hike to beach. Helpful staff, and communication, especially before arrival, was excellent, except for a very disappointing cancellation of one important task at the last minute. Excellent advice for helpers/drivers/resources. Chef meals were very good, not excellent; there was a large quantity of food and lovely fruit platters.

An absolute oasis
This is a stunningly beautiful new home with a gorgeous view and lovely beaches nearby, where inside and outside spaces are perfectly blended and offer both large gathering areas and private, personal retreats. Instant ZEN! Playa Ocotal is just down the road and has everything you need for a wonderful beach day, including great excursions (don’t miss a trip to Monkey Island!) and Father Rooster’s Restaurant. There’s also a secret beach you can hike to from the house that’s worth the steep inclines! If you want more beach-town action, rent a golf cart and check out nearby Playa Coco for shops/bars/restaurants etc. We hired the chef for dinners at the house and he was awesome, he even gave the kids a pasta-making lesson! The house manager was super helpful and arranged cars/trips as needed. There’s a lot to do in Guanacaste, but this home is also the most incredible property to just stay and relax. Happy Hour on ‘the point’ watching the sunset over the bay was amazing each and every day. Our group of 15 was sad to leave - including the teenagers!
