About this cottage rental
This lakeside cozy, 698 square feet of cottage has drive-up access and will put a smile on your face. A gorgeous two level deck will ensure you get panoramic lake view for a beautiful Seneca Lake sunrise and offers shade or sun for your afternoon relaxation. This cottage, originally built as officer barracks on Sampson Air Force Station, then upon base closure sold and relocated to its current location (currently the Sampson State Park is located directly east across the lake).
After descending 15 steps off the deck you can enjoy 105 feet of frontage choosing between natural-sloped shale beach or 60 linear feet of flat lawn created by a break wall. Enjoy time on the pile-driven, 100 ft trex dock with an enlarged platform for lounging at the end.
The Stowaway is less than two miles north of Fox Run Vineyards, in the heart of the Seneca Lake wine country. It is located seven miles south of Geneva, within two miles of Smokin' Pete's Barbeque, four miles south of Roy’s Marina, Port’s Restaurant, Vonnie’s Boathouse. It is 28 miles north of Watkins Glen. There are 3 short term rentals within walking distance of this property owned by different owners but may be available for different groups.
I’ve been the owner of this family property since 2002 and lived in this cottage for four years. I loved the sunrises from the dock and a quiet night on the deck over looking the sunset. In 2014, I had wonderful experiences with guests from all over the northeast through VRBO. I then was in a position to help a good friend who needed a place to stay year round. Fortunately for him he purchased a new home! That means he has moved out of the area and this cottage is back available. I am excited to get back into working with you on creating the best time during your visit to the Finger Lakes!
This property is alongside the Finger Lakes railway line. This is an active rail line with trains passing by up to several times a day sounding horns during the day and night - weekends are usually not active. This line runs the length of Seneca Lake on the west side so any property along this side of the lake will be affected. There is a 7 mph speed limit for vehicles driving on Locust Grove. This is not an ideal property for toddlers, please be aware of the large drop from the deck.
This property is not handicap accessible.
Well behaved pets allowed with a non-refundable deposit. The cleaning fee can be 100% refunded if the property is left as it was found.
I accept payment through this site, Paypal or check (if it's far enough in advance) or money order/cashier's check.
I look forward to working with you!

Right on the water. About 20 steps down to a new dock. The train does run close to the house, but very slowly and not very long. The resident neighbors were nice. Upon check in, I noticed there was no toaster. The owner brought over a new one in about an hour! Would stay again for sure.

Overall, the cottage was nice! The view of the lake is amazing and the communication with the property owner was great. My first night the grill was out of propane and Maryanne brought me a new tank within 20 minutes. My only comment for suggestions would be to bug proof the cottage. I don't mind some bugs and of course being on the water I expect it but there were so many bugs to the point that I thought maybe a window was left open. Other than that, everything was perfect!

Nice clean small house. 2 tier large deck, great for sunrise coffee, and eating outside. Entry road is really narrow, and parking spot is small. Don’t bring a large vehicle!

The place was very clean, all the comforts of home and then some. Location was very relaxing and quiet. The view was awesome and easy access to the lake for some swimming and floating. Owner was easy to get a hold of and would respond immediately. Left a lot of information about the area.

We needed to stay somewhere on the west side of Seneca lake for one night and this place was perfect. Dog friendly and right on the water. Close to great restaurants and wineries. The sunrise was beautiful! Highly recommend.

We had a cozy and wonderful getaway staying at this property. The view from the house/cabin was so nice that we ate each night on the deck just for the view of Seneca Lake. In the morning, I had coffee on the deck or on the couch watching the sunrise over the lake. It was the perfect size for 2 of us. It is close to a major grocery store, wineries, breweries, hiking, and museums. We were even treated to the most vibrant rainbow over the lake. We highly recommend this cabin. It was very clean.

This was a wonderful house for our Seneca Lake vacation. The house and neighborhood were clean and quiet, bed was comfortable and patio lake view and sunrise were perfect. And lake access was easy for us to get in our kayaks and paddle boards. The location of the house is great, we never drove more than 20 minutes and visited great wineries, downtown, Finger Lakes Rail Riders (train track bike ride through the area!) great restaurants (Ports Cafe!), maybe the best ice cream I've ever had at Spotted Duck, Seneca falls waterfall and more. Maryanne had great communication with us before and during our stay. We'd certainly be happy to stay again. Thank you Maryanne.

My husband, dog and I had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It is set in a quiet and peaceful location with incredible views. Maryanne was a wonderful host and so easy to communicate with. She responded so quickly to each of my inquiries. The cottage is in a great location with lots of wineries, breweries, and scenic hikes nearby. We loved our time in the Finger Lakes and are looking forward to coming back!

Maryanne was a great host, easy to get a hold of and helpful work with. The location of the cottage is perfect for wine trail access, and the lakefront location is a plus. The cottage has the basic amenities, however the pullout couch left a bit to be desired when staying as a group of 3. I believe Maryanne is working on a replacement which would be fantastic! The cottage could use new French doors to the deck as they’re shaky and not the most secure, and the dock was not as usable as we’d hoped due to mess left from the seagulls (it seemed to mainly be our dock as it wasn’t covered). The neighbors were very friendly, and overall we had a pleasant stay!

Will be visiting again and for longer. Maryanne was a great host. This location is perfect for a couple romantic getaway. The views are amazing. Almost all the amenities you need (no on-site laundry). Grill, fire pit, and the living room with an amazing view! Even the train, which only goes by during the day, added a quaint touch.

Would definitely return!

Perfect location
Only suggestions would be the ladder to the water didn’t feel safe as the hooks didn’t line up and the couch needs replacement
Otherwise a good stay!

We absolutely loved the cottage on the lake! The view was beautiful! The host was amazing and the space was perfect!! We enjoyed sitting out back at the fire pit both nights we were there. We cooked on the grill and ate on the deck. I can not say one negative thing about our experience! Can’t wait to visit again!

This property was located in a perfect area of the finger lakes. We were able to go to Seneca wine trail and Keuka wine trail in short order. The city of Geneva was only a short 10 minute drive away. Geneva has several hip restaurants. We had the best fried chicken at FLX fry bird.
The house was easy to access since there was only one short step to get into the house and no steps to sit on the spacious deck. There were steps down to the lake but not too many. If you know anything about the finger lakes some house have many steep steps. Not this house. Everything in the house was in good working order and very clean.
We would definitely stay here again, and our dog gave it 4 paws up.
The property manager was easy to work with and responded promptly.
This property provided a wonderful Finger Lakes experience.

We enjoyed staying in Maryanne's comfortable home. The house is very spacious and clean and has everything you need for a fun weekend (including an iron and ironing board, which was lucky for us!) The house was available for us to check in early, which was very nice and communicating with Maryanne was easy and fast. The house is close to wineries, breweries, and restaurants. In fact, there is so much to do that we hardly got to use the house/lake! I'd recommend bringing water shoes and maybe pillows if you like them firm, as the ones in the house are very soft (of course it's impossible to stock for everyone's preference). Overall we were pleased with our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.

I had great timing in booking this nifty home just outside Geneva New York—As heat wave on east coast had just hit. Maryanne’s home is clean. Awesome bed, supplies and furnishings. My Golden loved the dock—and neighbor’s dock too once invited by a very friendly neighbor!!
Maryanne is a terrific hostess, providing me with all sorts of winery and restaurant tips. Back in Bethesda, it is roasting time. Thanks Maryanne for all your help. Love to come back.
