About this apartment rental

Former capital of the island, Saint-Pierre was nicknamed the 'Petit Paris', the 'Paris des Isles' or the 'Pearl of the Antilles' when it was destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Pelee in 1902. Located in the heart of Saint-Pierre, the house, built on the ruins of an old Creole house destroyed by the volcanic eruption, was completely renovated in 2013. Its traditional architecture particularly seduces with its internal garden, its fresh water basin and its kitchen separated from the house. Although located in a quiet and quiet street, the house is in the city center, 5 minutes walk from the sea, the Cathedral and the first shops, and 15 minutes walk from the ferry and bus stations. In addition to visiting its famous ruins, Saint-Pierre offers a wide range of activities due to its exceptional geographical position between the Caribbean Sea and the volcano of Mount Pelee: hiking in the forest or on the volcano, river baths with falls water, visits to historical or geological museums, scuba diving, fishing, trolling or underwater, swimming on one of the many beaches of the Caribbean coast and in particular that of Anse Turin , probably the most beautiful beach in the north of the island (5 minutes drive from the house), visiting distilleries (Depaz, Neisson) and Creole houses, etc.

The street is small and can't park there ( saint pierre fun), the street is green and quiet. The ground floor/ terrasse is nice/ great. Overall getting a bite old/ broken. The garden is not big but give a very nice feeling of space/ cocooning. no storage for clothes in good size bedroom, we felt the door is missing in "parents bathroom". The living room above is nice to have even if we didn't use it. Kitchen separate we didn't mind when the weather was good. The kitchen was well furnished. Bakery at 5 min, and all other shop few minutes more, house is 2 blocks away from main street.

Pleasant stay in a very convenient location in Saint Pierre. Easy communication with host. A couple minor issues with air conditioning and the lack of soundproof quality of rooms, but overall this is a very nice property in the northwest part of Martinique.

This is a really lovely, comfortable and easy house to stay in. The house is a short walk from the bakery, (great bread and pastries) the beach and market (fresh produce and marvelous fish straight from the boat), supermarket (Huite a Huite) open from 8 till 8 every day and a handful of very nice, small, friendly local restaurants and bars. In short, there is everything you need close by. We stayed with our two adult children, there was plenty of room to lay around reading, cooking, eating etc. and still have privacy when required. We arrived late in the evening but our hosts father was friendly and gracious, bringing us a container of home-made local treats, enough for a light supper and a bottle of delicious local rum to make cocktails. We couldn’t have asked for more. The only slight issue we had was that the internet was not great but that is much the same everywhere on Martinique. St. Pierre and the neighborhood where the house is located is quiet, beautiful, historic and perfectly scaled to meet our needs. We stayed nine days and could have stayed nine more. We had a rental car and drove around the countryside including a trip to climb the volcano and several trips a few miles north along the coast to Le Carbet for more lively beachfront dining/drinking/music options. All in all a great vacation and a super base to tour from.
