At the heart of the vineyards of the hillsides of the layon well known for its sweet wine you can organize walks or bicycle rides on the many paths dedicated to these activities. (Rental for weekends possible to see directly with the owner).
The Loire Valley is close, the tourist places also ANGERS - 25 km, SAUMUR - 35 km, BRISSAC QUINCEY -10 km, DOUE LA FONTAINE - 20 km, PUY du FOU - 70 km (40 minutes).

Great property, ideal for large family group. Pool and gardens were excellent and the big round room great for us all when it rained one evening. Supermarket a short drive away and lots of vineyards all around.

Great stay for our group of friends and kids. Amazing house and huge garden with pool. The kids loved it too! Lots to do in the house and the garden with everything provided for use.
We also enjoyed the little stream next to the house, which you can take a small boat on.
Gabriel was a great host, communicative and accommodating.

We stayed for two weeks in this lovely house. Our ages range from 9 to 62! The highlights for us were the pool and garden. The houses are well appointed, with comfy beds and rooms (although an extra loo would have been useful) and there are lovely large sitting rooms although we hardly used them as we were outside all the time. But the reason the pool and garden made the holiday for us was the size of them. The garden is enormous, almost sprawling! And the large trees give plenty of shade. The pool is a good size and allows a decent length for those of us who want to do a few lengths rather than just lounge. We were spoilt for choice with places to sit and our two weeks went by in a flash. Would absolutely recommend!

Quelle chance nous avons eue nous et nos amis de séjourner dans une telle propriété, dans une région riche en patrimoine bâti et produits du terroir...
Ce gîte est un coin de paradis, la propriété est vaste et très bien entretenue, nous avions l'impression d'avoir privatisé un petit hameau. Le charme des lieux agît aussitôt.

Très bel endroit, demeure atypique chargée d’histoire. Piscine et parc magnifiques, beaucoup d’équipement à l’intérieur, nous n’avons manqué de rien. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Gilbourg.

Très confortable
Nous avons passé un excellent séjour en famille et avons bien profité de la piscine. La maison est très bien équipée, les chambres sont confortables, il y a suffisamment de sanitaires pour tout le monde. Le jardin et la piscine sont très bien entretenus et permettent de profiter des extérieurs en toute sécurité avec de jeunes enfants.

Awesome chateau/ Landhouse with great historical details
We spend a week with three families in Gilbourg (6 adults and 6 kids (6months - 4 years old) and had a great time. The entrance is magnificent and the garden even better. We very much enjoyed eating in the garden and sitting around the fireplace when kids went to sleep. All rooms have been decorated with great taste. Only thing is we bunped our head many times at the low entrance of the kitchen and living room, but that is part of the charm for the property. Swimming pool also fenced well, so kids could play in the garden. Overall wonderful place and excellent location for wine tours and cycling. Definitely will book again.

A wonderful stay in a unique property
We were a group of 13 from 3 families with a range of ages, adults and children. The house was absolutely lovely. Beautiful structure, with a moat, circular tower room and attractively decorated. The fact that there were separate buildings didn't really matter to us though some groups might find it a bit tricky. The house was extremely well equipped with ample cookware and utensils. The pool and huge grounds were fabulous and we loved seeing lizards, bats and even water voles. It is extremely peaceful and rural - we did some great star gazing at night time. The children also loved the table tennis and courtyard area for playing games. The only thing we thought might have been useful would have been a little bit more information about local attractions eg a few tourist leaflets. We had to visit 3 nearby tourist information offices before we found one that was open - it is a very quiet area. That is what we loved about it though so it isn't really a criticism! We would recommend kayaking on the Loire (we started from Les-Ponts-de-Ce) and also enjoyed visiting a local vineyard for a degustation - delicious! Further afield we visited Puy du Fou, a huge historical theme park with live shows from different periods of history, which was very interesting.
Overall we had a truly wonderful week in Gilbourg and wished we could have stayed for longer.

Nous nous y sentions tellement bien que nous sommes même pas sortis pour visiter les alentours !

Simply stunning home, grounds and pool we're the icing on the cake!
We were a large party of 14 including children and grandparents and the house had more than enough room to fit us all in very comfortably. The house was fully equipped with all amenities necessary, the bbq and ping pong table were a big hit!
A few more directions regarding taking care of the pool would have been good though!
The area was very quiet and a car is necessary, not much was open during August so be prepared to travel for a meal out!
Over all we enjoyed a fantastic family holiday and will recommend Gilbourg to everyone!

Des vacances formidables. Ein traumhafter Urlaub.
C'était une maison dont on rêve, un vrai château, bien restauré, avec un jardin superbe, la grande table à l'ombre d'un bel arbre, une belle piscine, une balançoire pour les enfants,... et autour de tout un fossé...
C'est idéal pour les familles avec des enfants.
L'intérieur est équipe avec goût et avec beaucoup d'amour.
Les chambres sont belles, la grande salle de séjour avec la grande cheminée dans la tour ronde est incroyable où l'on se sent vraiment bien.
La cuisine est très bien équipée.
Il y a beaucoup de choses à visiter dans la région,
des châteaux, des villes, des abbayes, des parcs...
Et quand on quitte la propriété on peut se promener le long de la rivière du Layon et des vignobles. C'est très joli.
Et les propriétaires étaient tellement gentils et très soucieux de tout.
Je vais retourner!! Merci pour des vacances formidables.

Superbe propriété, excellent séjour.
Nous avons passé 3 jours entre amies dans cette magnifique demeure. Rien ne manque dans cette maison très bien entretenue. Elle se prête aussi bien à une journée détente à profiter du jardin et de la piscine, qu’a La visite de la région et de ses vignobles. La personne qui nous a accueillit était très agréable et disponible au cours du séjour en cas de question. Rien à redire, nous y reviendrons avec plaisir.

Another wonderful stay!
Yet again we had a great two weeks at our favourite holiday home. Sadly, the weather wasn't quite as good as previous years but that didn't stop us enjoying the facilities in and around the house. Our five grandchildren were with us and they had a ball, with lots of space to play and, of course, the pool - swimming skills were much improved by the end of our stay! Gabriel and Brigitte are continually upgrading aspects of the house and it remains a wonderfully comfortable and inviting home - we have felt very lucky to be able to spend time there and hope to return again soon.

Wunderbarer Ort um sich zu erholen
Wir (sechs Personen) verbrachten wunderschöne Ferien in diesem schönen kleinen Schloss mit grossem Pool. Die Beschreibung entspricht in allen Details den Vorgaben. Das Anwesen besteht aus zwei Häusern und sehr grossem Umschwung, ideal auch für zwei Familien nutzbar. Fernab von den grossen Touristenströmen kann man eine wunderbare Gegend erkunden; auch grössere Städte wie Angers, Saumur oder Nantes sind nicht weit. Die Eigentümer sind sehr freundlich und das Preis- Leistungsverhälnis ist ausgezeichnet. Wir können diese Feriendestination vorbehaltos empfehlen - sie lässt keine Wünsche offen.

le soleil nous a permis de profiter des extérieurs qui permettent à chacun de prendre l'espace dont il a besoin ...
je conseille vivement cet endroit si vous aimez le charme de la vieille pierre , la qualité de l'ensemble habitable , la beauté d'une rotonde historique , le calme de la campagne et les plaisirs de vie que peuvent offrir les diffèrents espaces .

Beaucoup de caractère, énormément de confort !
La première impression, même extérieure, est la bonne : On sera bien ici ! 5 couples d'amis, tous assez exigeants sur le caractère, le confort et les équipements y ont trouvé ce qu'ils espéraient. Le grand salon circulaire est impressionnant mais très convivial. (La grande cheminée bienvenue en mi-saison.) Le logis avec les chambres principales très confortables et décorées (très bonnes literies). Environnement hyper calme, et très beau parc. Terrain de pétanque de qualité "professionnelle" ! Une excellente adresse, et beaucoup d'attention de la part des propriétaires pour préparer notre séjour. Merci !

Séjour très agréable
Cette maison m'est très chère car j'ai grandi dedans pendant la plupart de mes vacances avec mes frères et mes cousins! Que de bons souvenirs! Je n'ai pas été déçue en revenant, au contraire. Les lieux ont été très bien réarrangés avec le maintien du cachet du lieu. Je me suis sentie comme chez moi!! Le contact avec les propriétaires est très agréable. La maison est très spacieuse ce qui permet de séjourner nombreux sans se marcher dessus et le cadre est superbe même l'hiver! Je recommande!

A true home from home !
We had been recommended to stay at Angers-Saumur-Layon by friends who have had the pleasure of repeated visits. We were not disappointed! It is an ideal venue for a family gathering, with everything you need for a perfect holiday . The house is spacious and well equipped, the garden and pool expansive. A truly lovely holiday!
We are a family of eight and have just returned from a lovely week at Gilbourg, truly the best French holiday we have had.
The house (approached over a moat like bridge through large double gates) is set in a beautiful quiet area surrounded by vinyards. The rental is made up of three separate buildings close together and contain everything needed for a large group holiday. All of the bedrooms were nicely furnished and the bathrooms and toilets were clean. The main kitchen is full of cooking utensils, plates, cutlery and glasses - more than you would ever need.
The main lounge and dining room is truly unique, the nicest room I have ever seen. It is a beautiful, huge dome shaped building with a massive dining table, lots of armchairs, TV/DVD etc. and full of interesting ornaments and pictures. There is also another large lounge in the main house with a second small kitchen and TV/DVD etc. There are also several fridges/freezers and washing machine and dryer.
Outside the house the large garden is well laid out with mature interesting trees. The heated swimming pool very large and is safe for children being fully enclosed and just 1.5mtrs deep. There are lots of garden chairs and sun loungers and 2/3 barbeques. Gabriel and Brigitte are very nice, they left us completely alone for the week but were contactable by phone if we needed anything. I would highly recommend this rental and we hope to return again next year.

Très très beau domaine ! Encore plus agréable que l'impression qu'il donne en photo.
Nous avons organisé les 50 ans de mon mari avec la famille et les amis, nous étions une bonne 50 aine. Nous étions 15 à dormir sur place mais il est très facile de trouver des maisons d'hôtes ou des petits hôtels à proximité.
Nous avons eu la chance d'avoir un WE ensoleillé et de profiter des espaces extérieurs le samedi soir ainsi que de la piscine toute la journée du dimanche..
Nous recommandons cet endroit et nous envisageons d'y retourner pour un WE avec des amis.

Une maison d'exception pour une fête familiale
Nous avons passé un moment bien agréable dans ce lieu chaleureux et confortable pour fêter les 90 ans de notre père entouré de ses invités, enfants, petits enfants, arrière petits enfants. Le charme de la salle à manger , le plaisir de la cheminée ont remporté les suffrages des petits comme des grands. Les aînés ont apprécié l'absence de résonance de la pièce et le confort de leur chambre en rez de jardin. Les enfants ont profité du parc et chacun a pu trouver sa place tout au long du week end dans cette demeure familiale où l'on se sent bien.

Another brilliant holiday!
We returned in early August for our second holiday at Gilbourg and we were not disappointed. There have been a few changes since our last visit - the addition of a ground floor en-suite bedroom was perfect for my elderly father, but the house remains a wonderful place to spend our summer break. We were a large group - 14, including 2 small children but we had plenty of space, both inside the house and in the grounds ( enough for a family cricket match!). Much use was made of the pool and we valued the fact that it was secure and safe for the children. The houses are beautiful and well equipped, though, yet again we had excellent weather so spent most of our time outdoors. Gabriel and his sons were most welcoming and it is clear that they have great pride in their house - this is no ordinary holiday rental! We are already planning our next visit - Gilbourg is a real family favourite!

Nous avons passé 15 jours à Gilbourg au début de l’été pour des retrouvailles amicales et familiales.
Ce lieu, plein de charme, est parfaitement adapté à ces moments de partage. Nous étions 14 à occuper l’espace avec des enfants. Chacun a trouvé sa place pour se reposer et s’amuser dans un domaine très confortable.
Nous avons pu célébrer notre mariage dans la grande salle de la tour avec nos 60 invités.
La présence d’une piscine sécurisée a été très appréciée des petits et grands.
Les propriétaires sont chaleureux, prévenants et attentifs au bien être de leurs hôtes.

The "castle" was great. Lots of space. We were with 11 adults and had a very nice holiday. The swimming pool was big and nice to cool off after a day away. The interior and exterior of the house exceeded our expectations. The garden was so big! Brigitte and Gabriel, thank you for your sharing your beautiful home with us.

Wonderful property in a beautiful location.
We had a wonderfully relaxing holiday in this stunning property which had been recommended to us by friends.
The holiday had started well before it began as the owners had agreed to let us arrive early to suit our travel plans. Brigitte and Gabriel are a charming couple and they were waiting for us to show us round this enchanting small chateau.
Set in its own grounds across a dry moat and through the imposing main gates we were immediately struck by the lovely buildings, particularly the exquisite round room at one end of the chateau next to the well equipped kitchen.
There was plenty of room for our small group (5 adults and 1 seven month old child) and we could have doubled the size of the party without any problems.
The amenities were great - the star being the good-sized pool which was discreetly fenced off and alarmed for the safety of any young children.
There were plenty of other facilities including bicycles,a large barbecue and plenty of games including table tennis and petanque.
The property was immaculately clean, and very comfortable with plenty of options for dining or just relaxing. Our favourite spot to eat was in the garden in the shade of the tree.
Getting there was very easy. We drove down from the Caen ferry using the excellent french motorways, while some of the party flew into the Angers airport just 40 minutes drive away.
Despite the ease of access you still find yourself in the heart of the peaceful French countryside.
There is a small bakery and grocery shop in the next village and the nearest supermarket is only ten minutes drive away.
As we were only there for a week's relaxation we did not venture far but just enjoyed the peace and quiet, the sunshine and the pool. However there is plenty to do for the more active holiday makers.
All in all everything we wanted for our short break and we certainly hope to return soon.
