Not a great experience with this one. A weekend away as a wedding present for my sister and new brother in law, and it wasn’t what I’d hoped for.
Old 1940s place with some superficial renovation and decorations but not what I’d expected for over $550 a night.
When it says 2 bathrooms - it’s a toilet and then a shower room in a separate part of the house. The third bedroom is a converted garage and you have to walk through overgrown garden and spiderwebs to get to house and toilet (occupant was cold, slept badly and was not happy).
Gas heater is in corridor, not inside the lounge. To heat loungeroom you need door open internally into the lounge in front of the couch so no one can sit there or else can’t see TV for the door.
No WiFi.
No wood provided inside. Tried lighting fireplace using wood stored outside and it leaked and smoked badly.
Beds were comfy and nice linen (as per website - it looks pretty). Shower room been given a good makeover but I didn’t like the toilet being separate. No toiletries.
Only sheer cheap curtains so we woke early. In 2nd bedroom the bedside lamps shown in picture didn’t plug into anything (no power point or extension cord). So no reading in bed for me if charging phone. (Buy a power board!)
Lovely front deck (across from the beach, great location) but outdoor furniture is pretty tired and garden and driveway pretty rough.
The ‘modern’ frontage added to the house is odd and the paint is peeling.
Didn’t cook so not sure about kitchen supplies.
Positives - right on the Great Ocean Road. Walk on the beach. Visit the coffee cart in the Pisces caravan park (great egg and bacon muffins).
In short though …. I think it needs either a proper renovation and some decent money spent on it or bring the price right down.
We’ve rented on the coast for decades and we are happy to pay a fair price but the pricing for holiday rentals has gone bonkers - people getting greedy after the lockdown years, but it is just not value for the money. You can stay at a Sofitel or the RACV club for much less than this. I think after this disappointing experience we are heading to motels and cabins when going to the coast.
I never write negative reviews but feel like I needed to give others this perspective.

Apollo Bay was a great Winter getaway.
This property is in a great location right across the road from the beach. Whilst a little way from the Main Street, it is a lovely walk along the beach or along the path into town. The property is an older style house with an older kitchen. The third bedroom can only be accessed from outside which meant we didn’t use it as our kids were too little. The gas ran out whilst we were there which meant we didn’t have hot water for a few hours but the Real Estate agent was very accommodating in sorting it out as quickly as possible. The fire was a little temperamental due to its age but fire wood was supplied and it was nice during the Winter evenings. As this is a pet friendly house, it was not completely free of dog hair, which was evident on clothes etc. There was no dishwashing detergent or dish clothes supplied, so that is something to remember to bring to the property. Driveway is steep and narrow which was tricky to navigate as we had a boat, however this is something we should have asked about before booking. Note there are no cupboards in bedrooms so if staying for a few days there was no where to hang clothes. Overall an older house in great locations.
