Great place and people
Once again, had a great stay with Ricardo and Susan. Two wonderful people and a great house. We'll be back again!

Relaxing!
Wonderful! Susan and Ricardo are the best hosts! They go out of their way to settle you in and make you feel comfortable. You can bet that their place will be the first one I will book for future vacations!

Excellent Facilities
Staying in the apartment was truly a home from home. Everything you could possibly need is provided, from phone, car, to plentiful towels, and starter pack. Our hosts, Susan and Ricardo also made us feel so welcome providing any information we needed. The apartment is enormous- so spacious and comfortable, having a porch and yard was so handy and fun! Banana Bay restaurant and beach are just minutes away by car, and Port Lucaya is also convenient. I would recommend the apartment as suitable for anyone and am talking to my girlfriends about a trip back without the family. Glorious Island and Fabulous apartment- what more do you need?!

Home away from home
I can't even begin to speak about how awesome our trip was! I am a descendant of Grand Bahama and went back home for our annual family reunion. We were tired of the regular hotel experience and wanted to be more relaxed and comfortable. I went with my two sons, my sister and her fiance, and there was more than enough room to accommodate all of us (the purple room is my favorite)! Out of habit, we went straight to the grocery store, to stock up on basic necessities and by the time we got to the rental unit, we discovered that everything we purchased was already there! There isn't anything that Ricardo & Susan hadn't thought of. My kids thoroughly enjoyed there DVD collection, and the pets were an excellent plus.
Ricardo & Susan were very hospitable and they ensured that everything was fine throughout or stay. I can't wait to get back there, as this will definitely be our vacation home every year for our reunion trip!

Amazing Vacation Rental!
If we had known how much we were going to enjoy Freeport, we would have stayed longer! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and having such wonderful hosts make a world of difference.
The home came with the use of a car – a Volvo station wagon. We ended up naming her Penelope – a great car that you'll enjoy driving on the wrong side of the road with :-) She's an older car, so be kind, but she'll take you everywhere you need to go, and then some. Gas is a little pricey in The Bahamas, but the freedom of being able to drive about and explore is priceless. (Note: some of the excursions on the island will charge you less if you drive yourself there and they don't pick you up.)
Food is also a little more expensive in The Bahamas, so if you don't want to eat out all the time like us lazy people, the house has a great kitchen equipped with everything you'll need to make a meal. They even provide purified water for you, although tap water is harmful if you decide to drink it.
If you're concerned that the owners live right next door, don't be. They won't intrude on your day as much as you won't be intruding on theirs. If you're concerned it doesn't have a pool, you're being silly. You're on Grand Bahama Island with gorgeous beaches.
Highlights of what this home has to offer:
* full sized, fully equipped kitchen
* cable TV and reliable Internet!
* washer and dryer
* King-sized bed in the master bedroom with great pillows (we only used 1 room of 3)
* Volvo station wagon (Penelope), and she has a couple of beach chairs and umbrellas in the back
* silence – the nights were so quiet, and we had no issues with sleeping in either even though the sun was up around 6am
* no tourists nearby, which is a huge bonus for us
This is definitely the place to stay if you want to get away from it all, yet have all the comforts of home you're used to. We'll be saving to come back for another visit!

Personal Touch Makes Grand Bahamas Memorable
We have rented several VRBO homes and apartments but we have never encountered an owner who was so helpful and attentive. Ricardo met us at the house and showed us around. He drove us to the airport on our last day. Ricardo let our kids (age 8, 7 and 2) feed their chickens, which they raise on their half of the backyard. Ricardo and his wife let us use their car, which was a very big help getting around Grand Bahamas Island. The car is old, but runs well. A lot of people we bumped into thought we were locals and I think it was because of the car. I know we got to see a lot more than other people we met who were shuttled from their resorts to their various destinations.
The house is a duplex with owners (Ricardo and Susan) sharing the other side of the house. The house was spacious, clean, and well-equipped. Very well equipped and comfortable for our family of five. Ricardo and Susan have a closet full of beach toys for use. The location is a little out of town and certainly not on a beach (if that's what you're looking for), but it easily accessible to the main town (Freeport), various beaches and other destinations with short drives that are usually less than 10 minutes. Certainly the house is very convenient to most beautiful beaches which are out on the West side of the island.
The house has all the usual amenities, a nice collection of DVD's for viewing, WIFI, cable TV (if you want to spend time on those things), and of course air-conditioning. Susan was out of town the week we were there, so we didn't avail ourselves of them cooking a meal for us or one of Susan's therapeutic massages.
Overall the house is clean and simple and inexpensive. It's a little out of the way but everything you might want to do in the Bahamas. The owners add personal touches and make you feel very welcome, which is what really makes trips and places memorable. Staying at Susan and Ricardo's place is a wonderful way to see Grand Bahamas island.

Winnipegers
Ricardo and Susan are renting out half of a very large very nice side by side duplex. It is not centrally located but they provide a station wagon for renters use. The house is well equipped with great beds etc and a well stocked kitchen. The screened porch is lovely to have. They are most helpful as hosts. There is a wonderful beach and botanical garden close by. hey are most interesting people with a menagerie that is a delight to see. thanks for everything. Good for anyone comfortable driving on left--traffic is light in Freeport.

Excellent vacation accomodatioin
My husband and I stayed at Susan and Ricardo's vacation rental for a week and our son and his wife joined us for part of the stay. The rental was better than we could possibly have expected! The unit is newly renovated and spotless. It's huge, so perfect for two couples (or family)...basically two bedroom and washroom areas so you have your own space. The internet is FAST and the very large television screen with lots of choice is great.
Ricardo did a great job of introducing us to the rental and gave us lots of information about things to do on the island. He and Susan were always available to answer questions and even provided us with a cell phone in case we needed help while out and about. You do need a car but the beauty is that the rental comes with one so that's covered.
I would definitely recommend this vacation home to friends and family and intend on returning in the future.

Wonderful Apartment and Car rental!
I highly recommend this lovely spacious duplex which is in a very beautiful and safe neighborhood in a quieter area of the island.
The apartment has full kitchen,a wide variety of books, games and dvds, in addition to very stable wi-fi and loads of cable stations. It was wonderful to have a car to explore the island with.
Our hosts Susan and Ricardo were so gracious. Our first night there Susan had prepared an amazing vegetarian meal for us - delicious and what a way to unwind from our trip there.
Beaches are within a very short drive. Groceries and other stores close by also. No crazy crowded tourist areas to contend with yet a short distance from from Port Lucaya. Be sure to visit Fortune Beach and Banana Bay Restaurant for a fun afternoon. Both are just down the street from their apartment.
We highly recommend the apartment. You will enjoy your stay immensely.

Space, Peace, and Quiet
We stayed here for 7 days. The owners were very accommodating and made sure we had absolutely everything we needed. They picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. You have everything you need that a hotel would offer like towels, sheets, shampoo, and a hairdryer. Except you have plenty of space, games, videos, and a full kitchen. It was nice to have little things you need like salt, pepper, spices, and other condiments without having to buy a pantry full of items you would only use a little. Having a washer/dryer was great. The bathtubs in both bathrooms were oversized so it was nice to soak after a long day at the beach. Even though we got quite a bit of rain during our stay, coming back to the house made it much more enjoyable. Thank you for a great stay.

Awesome stay!
We lodged here for two weeks, and it was an incredibly enjoyable time! Everything that is needed to make your stay comfortable is already there. We especially enjoyed staying in a quiet residential area. We're not one for tourist crowds, so it was enjoyable to be away from that and relax. The screened-in porch was probably our favorite are to congregate, but we enjoyed the house as a whole. Also, I'm a huge pillow fanatic, and the pillows were great! The movie selection is copious, and all amenities have been updated. My kids especially enjoyed feeding the chickens next door, and their animals (2 dogs, 2 cats) quickly adopted us . . . . . I have a feeling they adopt every guest that stays here. Having the car was a bonus too. We've already recommended this place to family and friends interested in visiting, and we would definitely stay here again.

Six very relaxing weeks with wonderful beaches
We spent six weeks at the guest part of Susan and Ricardos duplex and enjoyed it very much. Because we had to prepone our stay because of US visa issues, Susan and Ricardo even offered us to stay at their side of the house for a couple of days so we could arrive earlier than planned - great flexibility and hospitality!!! Our friends with their three year old girl joined us for the last two weeks and our hosts even arranged for a baby seat for the car (which was extremely helpful to have), toys and other things for the little guest. They showed us how to extract the conch (bahamian sea snail) from its shell and prepare our own conch salad, prepared a traditional dish, baked artisan style bread, tought us how to open a fresh coconut... I could go on endlessly. In a few words: Wonderful hosts! The house is big enough for six people with good media (TV-lots of channels incl. music, Wifi- surprisingly stable and fast for an island location). The screened porch (= no mosquitos) and the garden are very nice, but "nothing" next to the closeby (and other) beaches...GORGIOUS. Fortune Beach is only a few minutes by car (or a little longer by foot) and don't miss Banana Bay Beach Bar just a little further east at the same beach. Our drive to the West End was fun, you can check out some spots along the way (Boiling Hole, Conch fishermen, Snorkling at Deadmans Reef !sandflies! etc.). East End isn't worth the drive in our opinion, but there are beautiful and secluded beaches on the way east (check out Lucayan National Park - caves, mangroves and nice beach !sandflies!). If you want to cook your own meals, you can choose between a couple of supermarkets (Solomons, Butlers, Save-a-lot) but keep in mind that food is rather expensive on the Island compared to the US, so plan a few extra dollars (US$ are accepted everywhere). Gasoline was around 4,90 US$/gallon in January 2013. For our longterm travel budget there were not that many places of interest besides the numerous beaches- but those are pristine and you can walk for miles and miles, Lucaya Marketplace, Lucayan National Park (5 US$) and Deadmans Reef (3 US$). If you are visiting the Bahamas during New Year, be sure not to miss the Junkanoo parade. If you enjoy spending time at beautiful beaches -you will be alone most of the time- with clean white sand and turquoise water and warm weather this is the place to go and Susan and Ricardos house is the place to stay!
